Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Very nice shaves all caught up now. Sorry the GF has been giving lingering damage.

Glad the shave was much to your liking! Elan definitely sounds like a winner in the scent category!
\nThanks Don, I was relieved I have 1 winner at least. Hoping the others are too.\n
Nice lather ya whipped up there Dave. Been finding myself bowl lathering more since Thanksgiving day as well.
\nI hope I can face lather them as I really prefer but wanted to give it every chance to succeed 1st time using it.\n
Great photos, Dave. The blue is fantastic!
\nThanks Chris\n
Glad the irritation was from the blade and not the soap Dave. Sounds like you have another winner on your hands there!
\nThanks Steve\n
Nice shave and those pics are great!
\nAppreciate it Tim\n
GD redemption! Well done!
\nThanks Chris\n

Razor: Rockwell 6s Plate 5
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5)

Brush: Stirling 24 mm Badger

Soap: Grooming Dept. Earl Grey Gelato

Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Pinaud Reserve Gents Gin

The Graham Field recovery continues and decided to revisit the GD Earl Grey Gelato. I figured if it lit me up, I'd have to send the rest of this chunk of a sample from Mo to NurseDave. Sorry Dave it didn't light me up at all and had a very nice shave. It's a keeper. Guess I may want a tub when I am in the market for soaps again and if it becomes available. Nice first visit with the Stirling brush which really blooms out after use. These are a flat out steal at regular price let alone the BF deal they had. Glad I got one. Looking forward to trying the other 3 GD soaps I have (1 here and 2 coming today) to see how we get along. I am on a self-imposed sabbatical for purchases for awhile except for a possible SE razor purchase or another brush if the elusive Paladin I want comes along. That's right I said the "S" word and have those that think I am incapable but they'll just have to watch and see ?

Heading to Norris TN to do the outside windows on a house today while we have a break in rain and will be reasonably warm. Have a great day Cadre.

Maybe a bad blade T-shirt in the works, but I don't know if I want to put the words Graham Field on a tshirt... what if more people buy them? LOL

Dave, what are your thoughts on the Sterling Brushes Badger silvertips vs your higher end brushes?
\nNot fair to compare after just one use. I\'ll say this Stirlings are produced for them to resale. I don\'t think they are at the level of Paladins but they punch way higher then their price point even without a sale. Either will create lather and each person must decide for themselves what price they\'re comfortable with spending for a brush. I don\'t like deciding that as people all have different expectations. When I started over 10 years ago I wasn\'t in a position to own a Paladin and bought less expensive brushes for more then this Stirling and they weren\'t near as nice as this one.

Decide on a 2nd shave this afternoon since I won't be shaving till Tuesday afternoon again and felt rough when I got my shower after work
Went with my 2nd cheap badger brush from ebay and GD Naranja de sangre which lit my face up on 1st pass. Rinsed of and started #2 and was like, NO WAY. Rinsed off and switched to a Yaqi synthetic brush and GD Wonderland. A little soreness still, but probably residual from the other soap. I'll check Wonderland again but if any irritant it isn't much. Finished a nice shave and applied Nivea 2 in 1 Aftershave. Feeling better now and got a nice shave. I emailed Mo to see if it has much Vanillin but this will need to be sold on BST as I can't use it. Hope the Kulfi coming is usable. Pic of 1st setup and what I finished with. Text changed after I copied and pasted the soaps name. sorry

Another one?
Yep, what was more frustrating was emailing the owner and I made it clear I wasn't complaining but trying to isolate my irritation. Instead of telling me what might be in it his response was my scents are complex, cease using and consult a dermatologist. Says there is zero vanillin when I asked but Chris had told me the vanillin is in scent concoctions acquired by soap makers. I don't think he even knows what's in it......
