Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Nice shaves Dave, and sounds like the Variant is doing well for you; at least as good as the Rex did. I'm still way behind on the video front, but that will be rectified here in the next few days!

Date: Sunday September 9th

Razor: Parker Variant Setting 3
Blade: Pol Silver SI (3)
Brush: Eric Sorrentino Cadre Member Brush
Soap: CBL Premium Shave Roasted Oatmeal Stout
Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Skin Bracer
O-74,I-26,B-5,N-34,O-68,B-7

Shave #3 with the Parker Variant and no drama to report. More blade feel on 3 but doesn't seem to be really any more efficient at this level. That coupled with the idea that I can't be on autopilot means I don't need to go any higher but may drop back to 2.5 which was skipped. That may be the sweet spot for this one. Worries about going higher is that the blade has NO support on the bottom edge and therefore chatters and at a bigger gap that spells issues in my book. Definitely like the razor and will be in use from time to time but not my favorite out of what I own.

The soap CBL Roasted Oatmeal Stout is STELLAR. I enjoy the scent a great deal. I like the Ghost Lime better but this has a definite place in the den. It lathered easier I think and produced a protective and extremely slick shave. Post shave is awesome !! Got a great shave with nice equipment and STELLAR software. Have a GREAT Day Cadre!!

Loving the Shave this morning! I was tempted with the Oatmeal Stout soap... but I think I will have to get that one later! Sneaky way to include Bingo calls by the way!

Roasted Oatmeal Stout followed by Cucumber Witch Hazel - interesting. I'm intrigued.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Chris, don't be intrigued or over think it. I pretty much grab whatever I want without a lot of thought as is clearly seen in today's shave video which was spur of the moment.

Date: Monday September 10th

Razor: Parker Variant Setting 2.5
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Brush: Stirling 2 Band Synthetic
Soap: Ballenclaugh Honey and Tobacco
Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Proraso

Well today I set the tablet on the shelf to try seeing how it would work for a video. Looked okay so without any thought at that point hit tape and started a shave which had ZERO forethought. Grabbed my copper bowl thinking I should use the Agrumes Estate from Don as I remember I liked the scent and now they have a Dances with Agrumes Josh reviewed. Grab the bowl and see a generous amount of the Honey/Tobacco from Don still in it. Ok, let's roll with that. Got a great lather going and aa good shave. I like the Variant for variety but not a favorite as the bottom of the blade has no real support and therefore chatters which isn't a problem but does affect a shave when you don't have a blade held rigidly in the head. At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it. Switched to a GSB blade as I am suspecting the PolSilver SI batch I last got aren't as smooth as ones previously. They were always my favorite blade but current ones compared to GSB's fall short. Nice shave topped off with Proraso for no particular reason. I really should give more thought to what I pair together but honestly most things don't really carry over to the next scent wise to me. Maybe it's the allergies recently. No pic because I actually got a video and it uploaded in 30 minutes. trick for me is not allowing Google Photo to back it up 1st (I disable it) and then upload to youtube. At least that's what worked this time. Maybe internet speeds were up this morning.

Working on adding a couple shelves to the shave den to organize better. Nothing fancy, just something functional for now.

Have a great day Cadre !!

Just a quick addition of 2 shelves more for function then looks until I redo the bathroom entirely. Should help the toppling of soaps and things I hope. Still need to organize better. Hoping to keep the majority of brushes and Razors inside the cabinet.

Nice read and den pics.

As to allergies I grab the Kirkland brand flonase.

I will also add that since losing the weight and eating healthier my seasonal allergies aren't as bad as they used to be.

Good to know thanks as I use the Kirkland brand Zyrtec sometimes. Didn't know they do a Flonase. And Chad, quit pm'ing me. You can't have my cartridge razors in the picture.......

Yes times a thousand to this! Cannot state enough how dropping some weight has made a huge difference in allergies...my acid reflux too!
