Bourbon Country Shave Journal - Dave in KY

Month or so ago. Moved Aloe Vera down the ingredients list and are using AV powder instead of gel. Old version was selling for $5 a tub.

So they're using a less expensive, (probably inferior) ingredient, jacking the prices up, and thinking we won't notice. HAHA! This is like messing with the Jesus...NOBODY messes with the Jesus!

Laughable, man!

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (4)
Brush: Stirling 24mm 2 Band Synthetic
Soap: Storybook Soapworks Hook
Aftershave 1: Thayers Cucumber
Aftershave 2: Storybook Soapworks Hook

Tried a video but it cut out at 6 and a half minutes. Perhaps a storage issue on the phone. Not sure if worth posting half a video. Just ramblings about tv and internet connections. Nice smooth shave. Love this soap performance and scent. Aftershave was a better experience then 1st time. Felt tacky on me but not so much this time. Maybe I forgot to shake it up first last time. Hope everyone in the Cadre is having a stellar day!!! No pic as I thought I had video..................

Good stuff Dave...I've had that happen to me before. It can be extremely frustrating. But, it's a good dry run for future videos!

I was going to record yesterday's shave. Had the camera set up and everything. I'm shaving away and when I got to the point where I pause to clean my face and get ready for pass two. Well guess what I hit play! UGH so frustrated. I just called it and decided no video yesterday.

Man, that was a missed opportunity. You could have cut a second video for the sequel. Good shave!

Thanks Josh, Chad and Tim !!

Date: Friday August 24th

Razor: Delta Echo Cubano Slim
Blade: Pol Silver SI (1)
Brush: Eric Sorrentino Cadre Member Brush
Soap: LNHC Haute Leather
Aftershave 1: Humphrey’s Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Skin Bracer

Got a fast and creamy slick lather for the 1st pass. As subsequent passes had some water from rinsing the lather continued to evolve to a silky slick lather had a sheen like glass on my cheeks. Used the lather left to coat my face while I cleaned things up and a hot towel over it to remove. Ahhhh my face felt awesome. The blade felt rough and I started to think I’ll have to watch that. Never had a bad batch as some have of Pol Silver SI’s but noticed these have a TON of wax on them compared to others I’ve had. That had me remembering many complaining about wax on blades before when I didn’t see the issue. Maybe I finally got into a bad batch. Hard to tell as I buy a hundred or 2 at a time. Bears watching anyway. The brush from Eric continues to make me smile every time I use it which I reach for more then even my Paladin. Looking forward to the other 2 when they are done. He does awesome work that is worth waiting for. Topped off with Skin Bracer and feeling ready for the day. Already up at 2:15 and got a couple jobs done an hour from home. Back home now and getting ready to head for some volunteer plumbing projects scheduled.

Have a great day Cadre !!

Awesome stuff Dave, though sorry it seems that you got a bad tuck of Pol-Silvers. Can't agree with you more about Eric's work!

Glad you liked the soap. I have yet to try mine, but may get to it today. Those Sorrentino brushes are really great and I have to agree...I am really liking mine!

What was the scent like on the Haute Leather? Or did I miss it from an earlier post?

Date: Saturday August 25th

Razor: Rockwell 6c Plate 4
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5)
Brush: Razorock BC Plissoft Synthetic
Soap: Ballenclaugh Honey & Tobacco
Aftershave 1: Humphrey’s Alcoholado Maravilla
Aftershave 2: Avon Island Lime

Got to a sample soap Don of the dangerous persuasion sent me. The scent is rather nice and strong enough to enjoy throughout the shave. I have a feeling I pushed it to far with water so I will give this another try. That said I did have a nice smooth and well protected shave even though there was lathering error on my part. Since I suspected this I did a little more prep then usual and did a lather and hot cloth on the face. No doubt this helped the nice shave. What I thought was a small amount in the CC bowl produced an abundance of lather. Uneventful shave with number 5 on the GSB. I am now bathed in Island Lime and smell great. Have a Splendid day Cadre !!

Sorry the soap didn't turn out well this time. Hopefully another shot at it will yield solid results. I have been putting a healthy amount in the bottom of my Captain's Choice bowl. Then I have been blooming this and after I pour out the bloom water, I have been loading from the bowl. I have done a couple bowl lathers and face lathers and both have turned out well. Don't know if that helps or not.

Either way...I am glad you had a chance to use it.

Don't get me wrong Don. I loved the scent and had a solid shave. My mistake adding too much water and knew it as soon as I did. I like and enjoyed the soap, and will again too albeit more cautious as "I" lather it so I don't blow it.

I am always happy to send another sample if you would like!

Good stuff Dave...now that you know that you over-hydrated the soap, tomorrow's should be right on point!

All I know is this poor guys keeps using the same razor every day. He sure would benefit from buying a couple more.
