beginish’s Eye on a Splintered Mind

Initial thoughts on Trumper are that I can get a lather that looks good. Very good in fact. That said, it lacks slickness and postshave feel is mediocre. I may need to dial back the water to keep more soap in the lather to get more slickness at least. I’m not sure I’m being fair to Trumper by comparing it to PdP, since it’s an outstanding soap.

The Trumper lathers have been, well, average. Performance is fine. Cushion is a little on the airy side, but fine. Slickness is slippery, and fine. Scent is fine, but I wish it were stronger. I’m sure that the next few months with it will be ok, but my experience so far just reinforces my belief that Trumper lathers are best had with their excellent creams.

From Gilligan’s perspective, more of a Lovey Howell than Ginger it MaryAnn. Handsome for sure, but it doesn’t set the heart racing.

It's a good classic soap that does the job. Years ago...this would have been one of the best soaps on the market. Oddly enough, I think Arko completely out performs anything Trumper any day. But Trumper definitely smells a whole lot better (not that I mind the scent of Arko).

I’ve used so many soaps that outperform Trumper it’s not even funny. Problem is, I’m really wedded to the old school nature of Trumper and theirs were the first traditional wet shave products I used after Body Shop (Violet cream and Coral Skin Food). I can’t just pitch them and I still have one more puck of Violet soap in the box. We say that life is too short for mediocre shaves, but my addition to that theory is (*except if it’s Trumper Soap). I was doing the blade change and synthetic brush swap to start August and gave the Rose soap three different sniffs in the process. I love that stuff.

Funny thing is happening as I start moving into the meat of the soap. Lathers are really getting excellent. Again, water has been my friend and it’s turning a meh shaving experience into something really enjoyable.
Hopefully it really is that and you’re not just inadvertently “settling” because you’re acclimated to the soap now :ROFLMAO:

Even if we enjoy shaves for purely nostalgic reasons, its still an enjoyable shave. Case in point, the Palmolive Lather I am just about done with. 70+ shaves from a tube, great scent, but the performance is not top tier for me. But I still love using it because it reminds me when I started traditional wet shaving. That, to me, makes a great shave.

Another month gone, making good progress on Trumper Rose soap. I’d say I’ve knocked out about 40% of the soap so far. My shedding Kent Infinity goes back in the box for a very very very long time. I'll swap in a new injector blade tomorrow. One injector blade per month is working out very nicely. I’ll continue with my Floïd Blue AS for another month at least.

This routine I have worked out right now is really starting to bore me. I’ll need to mix it up a bit, perhaps working in a shave stick or something just to spice it up.

How long is a long time? Till you forget how bad of a shedder it was and begin to wonder if it’s fixed itself yet? 😜

Good work on the soap Bob!

I have one other shedder, an LE Simpson Rover from 2012 and that stays in the box 99.3% of the time. I break it out once in awhile for fun. The Infinity doesn’t feel fun. Ever. It may never come out of the box.

But does it shave better than Trumper? Don't see enough rose products on the market anymore.

It does. Easier to lather and the scent is a much cleaner rose. Of course QED soaps are kaput at this point, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts. It’s been a nice change of pace the last couple of days.

Back on Trumper Rose for the last few days, and I'm pleased with the progress I'm making. The soap has a well developed depression and takes up a whole lot less of the wooden bowl now. Those 3 days with the QED Rosie stick were just the break I needed to get back into the Trumper swing of things.

3016.927ing the Trumper Rose is seeming to work for you. :p

It's getting there! Of course being the weirdo that I am, and seeing that I'm 4-6 weeks from finishing it, I've picked what I go to next.....Bebelush Bay Rum soap. It's a glycerin based soap with a pronounced orange bay rum scent. I purchased it many years ago to show some support for a then new vendor elsewhere. If I find that it well and truly stinks, I'll pitch it.
