beginish’s Eye on a Splintered Mind

As it is May 1, I made several changes to the gear today. I changed the Body Shop brush out for my Rudy Vey custom synthetic with a Mühle knot. What a difference! I changed injector blades and am happy to report that I got a full month of excellent shaves from that injector blade, 3 cents per shave. I also dialed up the adjustable to 5, and we’ll see how that goes. Finally, I swapped out the Lucky Tiger AS for Floïd Blue, which I’ve had for a very long time and will probably never finish.

Was your month with a Schick or Personna bales, Bob? Been wanting to try some Lucky Tiger one day. Was this the bottle or one of the balms?

Chinese-made Schicks, Sam. I got a 4 pack of 7 blade injectors from Amazon for $20. I’m very happy with this set up. I have been using the liquid Lucky Tiger face tonic, which has a very faint orange scent that dissipates quickly. There is about 60% of the bottle left, and I should finish it by the end of next winter. I’ll break it out again in October or November.

Luck Tiger sounds like something I should try then. Have you tried the balms?
Schick/Chicks are where it's at for me. I've been using Personnas non-stop simply to get down to a single blade type (Schick) left in my den. The things last so long for me now that I am doing the Abe Lincoln beard thingy.

I haven’t tried the balms at all. The face tonic works really well, though. It’s kind of like Harris Pink with its very mild scent and balm-like, no sting performance without feeling tacky. It was really great this winter, and should last me all next winter too.

Water. I don’t know how I can have a gallon of it staring me in the face every morning and somehow, I manage to not use enough. PdP makes decent enough lather, but when I actually take the time to add more, I get a heckuva lot more and the shaves are so much better.

I switched over to Floïd Blue a couple of weeks ago for my AS and after using Lucky Tiger or the Cade Balm, let's just say that if I'm a little aggressive on the shave, Floïd certainly lets me know. It's not that bad, but still......I'm a wuss.

Some of those alcohol splashes will remind you of every tiny mistake. Sometimes that is nice to have, even if it doesn't feel good.

As much aftershave as I use at one time...all my splashes let me know if I didn't get a great shave! 🤪

3 months in now to one injector blade per month, and 5 into my year of only synthetic brushes. I’m happy to report that a single Chinese-made Schick injector blade delivers shave after flawless shave for a solid month. On a per blade basis, injectors are much more expensive than DE’s, but per shave, they are comparable. I am also thoroughly enjoying my adjustable injector. I’m testing the different settings for 2 weeks at a time and still haven’t crossed the line where comfort is worse than shave quality. I’ll push the envelope to see how far I can go.

I like the injector I have but it's a little too aggressive for everyday. I might need to pick up an adjustable...seems like a good answer!

The M-Type (adjustable) Injector is a great every day shaver. Which model are you using @dangerousdon? The G-Type and earlier are aggressive razors. The I-Type and newer are much more mild.

If you are fans of Injectors, you really should try the Supply SE. It is a well made modern Injector. It is also adjustable in that you can change the blade gap by changing plates. I shaved with mine this morning and got a really nice shave.

Way back when I started traditional shaving, I picked up a NOS M type injector on eBay. I also have an L type, but it’s a little too mild for me.

Yeah...mine's G Type that @Dave in KY gave me. It's a good razor...but like I said. On the aggressive side of things.
