beginish’s Eye on a Splintered Mind

I cheated today with the injector set on 1 and got an excellent, drama-free shave. I'll need to dial it in a bit since that setting was a bit too mild.

Last shave with a DE for 2+ years today, and an excellent one at that. PdP #63 remains indestructible, and I have gotten back to 40 second latherings. The quality of the lather is superb. Stuck in the house, I miss my morning drive to work when I could just smell that fantastic scent for my 40 minute drive. Damn virus.

I am also moving on to the Body Shop synthetic for April, and I’m hoping it puts a hurting on the soap. If not, when the Chubby 2 comes out in May, it will deliver a hurting.

The injector is a treat to use. After years of DE only, it’s taking a little adjustment. A couple of nicks and weepers so far, but using the injector feels like cheating, it’s effortless. I can get used to this.

What injector blades are you using?

They are pretty good for me. I like the Schick Prolines better but they are a bit harder to get.
I'm not a fan of the Personna injector blades.

Last year I "rediscovered" injectors and actually sold off or gave away all my DEs. I did eventually recover. My problem is I can only use a razor so often, and I get antsy and want to try another one...

That was never a problem for me. Brushes and soaps are another story.

I’m going to give a shout out to one of the most common and least appreciated brushes out there, the Body Shop synthetic. The one I have is from the generation of synth brushes predating the current crop of amazing knots. The fibers are super soft at the tips, but are much more stiff, so the overall effect is like a pure badger. With the soft tips, you can face lather, but with the knot, it is not the best experience if you do the whole circular motion face lathering thing. I have found that face lathering with painting strokes is very effective, and the lather is as good as any other synthetic. I have no problem loading the PdP from the tin, so there is plenty of lather for 3+ passes.

As we have ample time on our hands, if you have one of these guys in the back of the cabinet, you might want to give it a try for a change of pace.

I have/had (I might have tossed it) a Body Shop Brush...it must have been one of the first, back when synthetics were just getting started...it straight up hurts to use lol. Scritch, scrub, spring, etc...all tinted up to 11.

Glad they’ve become more useable, or at least yours is :ROFLMAO:

This is not going to be part of my regular rotation by any means, but since I’m only using synthetics in 2020, it will get a month. I don’t think it will get 2 months, though.

At least if you did nick yourself, you could do the old-school toilet paper bandage and no one would be the wiser, lol

Almost 2/3 of the way through the month with the injector and I’ve found a groove. It’s adjustable, so I have given each setting a week so far (starting at 1) to see what works best as far as comfort and irritation go. 3 still works great. I’ll give 4 a try next week.

The Body Shop brush is doing the job, in fact it’s putting a real dent in the PdP #63. It is certainly not as pleasant as the Plisson synth, and I’m looking forward to the Chubby 2 and Rudy Vey synths that are still on deck. Still, if I never found out about any other brushes, I could happily use the Body Shop brush over canned goo.

A good injector could easily be the be-all end-all razor for a shaver! Way to easy to get a good shave!
