Yes, I loved the smell of the Jermyn Street. It was a bit sharp at the beginning (think of the feeling you get in your nose when you sniff a new bar of Irish Spring), but really mellowed nicely. I'll miss it. In addition to being my first bay rum soap, it is also the first one with 3 L's in its name, so there's that. I've used many, many fair to middling soaps over the years, so I am ready for a little dialing in.

Shave number 1 with Ogallala is in the books. The scent is great, not one of those overpowering, super spicy bay rums that I find off-putting. It's a brand new, straight out of the wrapper puck of soap, and the amount of lather that was produced using a pure badger brush and 40 seconds loading time was less than optimal. That same set up with Jermyn Street gave me gobs of lather. I expect the volume to increase as I use it daily, but if it doesn't, I'll just ramp up the loading time. Slickness wasn't really there, and neither was cushion, but as I get more lather out of it, I expect that to improve. Postshave feel was good. Looking at the ingredients list, it has promise as far as skin care goes, containing shea butter, and the bentonite clay should contribute to a slicker shave once I get it dialed in.

I've only heard good things about Ogallala scents...and that's it, but I'm sure it's not impossible to dial in correctly to at least perform acceptably.

I have one Ogalalla Bay Rum & Sandalwood AS, I’m not quite sure what to think of it. It doesn’t smell Bay Rum for me at all, it has more of a gourmand/food scent to my nose.

About a week in, now, and I've adjusted the settings to improve the lather. I'm loading for a full minute, using a damp brush, going back to the sink for a little more water as needed. The idea is that I pick up enough soap to convert some of it to lather, while keeping some unincorporated soap in the brush. That generally translates into a slicker shave for me, and so far the approach works reasonable well. I may try the full Marco approach with a very wet brush and see what happens, but not yet. The scent is still very good, and it pairs well with the Harris Pink I'm using as AS until it runs out in the next week.

Glad you’re getting it figured out! Maybe @HandleBarberDave can send you his evil soap nemesis, maybe you can figure it out lol!

It may depend on the nemesis. The worst soap I've used from a performance standpoint was Captain Fawcett Luxurious Shave Soap. That lather disappeared faster than a narc at a biker rally. I would have to fully load up again for the second pass. That said, the scent was phenomenal; one of my favorites of all time. I used it to the end. Speaking of the end, I have one more dose of DR Harris Pink AS left in the bottle. I will use it tomorrow and then send the bottle off on a floating, burning pyre worthy of a Viking hero.

I salute you for your willingness to stick with a soap that smells good, even when it can be frustrating, Bob. Good reading. Love the Fred Rogers quote. (y)

First shave with Floïd Blue today in a couple of years. You don't appreciate how nice it is to not get a sting from a splash until you've been using one that doesn't sting and then switch to Floïd Blue. Yikes!

Great scent, though.

Switched to the L’Occitane synthetic after using the Simpson Beaufort 4 with Ogallalalalalala and was rewarded immediately in a significant upgrade in both lather quality and amount. Honestly, if I knew then what I know now, I would never have bought a natural hair shave brush. The synthetics are far superior in just about every way.
