Balancing on the Razor's Edge of (In)Sanity

Hmm. I'm going to have to try my black handle SS again soon. I remember it being mild, and fairly efficient... But I don't recall excessive blade feel. Mine is a 1976... Not sure how the year plays into it.

Proraso is a great Autumn scent, definitely a good choice for 50° weather. [emoji106]
Mine is a ‘73 I believe. Maybe it’s just my perception or “blade feel” may not be the best way to describe it.... it’s just plain not a smooth shaver. That’s what turned me off of it initially and vintage razors in general. But gave it another shot and it has gotten better as my technique improved over the years. It’s serviceable so that’s why I keep it in my razor rotation. 🤷‍♂️

Just got caught up. Sucks about Stubble Buster not really having a scent. I've been wondering about grabbing a couple, but none of them really scream out at me.

I trashed it the the other day... performed really well for $6, but lack of good scent and the fact that it felt slimy, was a no go combo after all. Lesson learned 🤷‍♂️

Oh dude, that sucks. I don't know how I would feel about the slimy feeling.

I attribute the sliminess to the presence of petrolatum. I could be wrong, but petroleum jelly seems like a strange ingredient for a soap. I use it to lubricate my Victrola!

That makes sense looking at the consistency of the soap. It is weird.

I never noticed any sticky feeling once it's sufficiently lathered. I'll have to use it again with that in mind. Interesting. [emoji848]

Good shave overall. Gillette combo felt smoother this time around....slightly slicker lather than the proraso the night before. Something in the Mahogany soap gives me a slight burn, but no redness and goes away fairly quickly after use....so I use it every so often as I enjoy the scent. The WSP aftershaves are a touch weird upon initial splash.... third one I have tried now and they all have an underlying “funkiness” initially. I think they use too much witch hazel in the formula? 🤔 Mahogany is a great scent otherwise.

lots on my mind but nothing worth discussing here. Have a great day Cadre.

Keep it light and enjoyable. Sometimes I just read and comment on others' entries.

I have an unopened bottle of Mahogany on the shelf. I've gotten compliments when I wear it. Love the stuff.
Thanks. It’s been nice socializing a bit... this is basically my only social circle outside of work and home so nice to talk shaving and life with guys for a change... biggest challenge is keeping up with others, I don’t do that well at all 🤷‍♂️

WSP will always have a spot in my shave den 👍

Fantastic shave as usual. The Gillette duo gets smoother with every shave. Can’t complain about the double whammy lavender scent, always a crowd pleaser.... at least in my home 👍

Siding replacement moving along nicely. Day 3 today... of a nearly 2 week job. Feel Bad for my wife, she has to listen to 8+ hours of banging while to trying to home school the boys.
also, getting ready for our first, delayed glamping trip Of the year this next week. Heading up to Tawas / Oscoda area of MI, on Lake Huron. Should be nice and quiet up there...lots of hiking, cute little downtown coffee shop for the wife, sweet shop for the boys ...hopefully decent weather. Have a great day Cadre.

Nice shave. I love the scent of Lavender Pour Homme. Great scent (great performing soap, too).

Hey, there's something to look forward to. Peace, quiet... and no siding to put up in the campground (hopefully, lol). [emoji106]

Thanks. Yes, Lavender in general is favorite scent of mine. I will always have at least 1 lavender soap/AS combo in the shave den.

the campground is a KOA, and mid September is off season for the most part. Last year, there were maybe a dozen other campers in our area of the campground. Great to let the boys play and not worry (too much) about traffic.

Lavender FTW! I love me some lavender. Have you tried Shannon Soaps' Lavender Lemongrass? Her soaps are on my elite list, and the scents are amazing, this one is one of my favorites.

My mother grew up in Cheboygan and I have many relatives there. Michigan is a glamping paradise. We have a family reunion each July 4th in Gladwin, on a lake. I absolutely love Michigan. Enjoy your family time on Lake Huron!
