Balancing on the Razor's Edge of (In)Sanity

Some things just have to be gotten out of the way, so everyone can move on to better things. Hope it’s quick and painless!

Razor: ATT M1

Blade: GSB (4)

Brush: SV TSC

Soap: B&M Reserve Lavender

Aftershave: Fine Lavender Pour Homme

Shave comments: Fantastic shave! The mild ATT M1 requires a sharp blade and I think this is the last shave with the GSB. The new brush is nice. Much softer than the Simpson best badger I’m used too. Also noticeably heavier... It’s like if you’re a Fender strat/tele gut all your life then you decide to pick up a Gibson Les Paul 🤘

other thoughts: looking forward to a more laid back than usual weekend with the wife and boys 👍a few errands to run, but no major house work/renovations.I think we are going carpet shopping to replace the only carpet in the house on the main stairs. Have a great weekend Cadre.

Razor:Karve B plate solid bar

blade: wizamet (1) courtesy of @Dave in KY

brush: SV TSC

Soap: Stubble buster Impertinent

AS: Stubble buster Impertinent

shave comments: Nice shave! The Karve and Wizamet made for a smooth shave. The Stubble buster I purchased on a whim and... it was surprisingly a great lather! However, the scent, or lack of, is where the soap is a “bust.” It wasn’t even light fragrance, it was completely void of all fragrance except the smell of “soap.” The aftershave performed and smelled pretty good though. Interesting enough, they actually put aspirin in it. I’ve seen willow bark extract in AS, which is a naturally occurring source of aspirin. I wonder if they should be putting “drug facts” on the back of the bottle? 🤔

Other thoughts: nice weekend so far. A big storm Friday night removed almost all of the humidity and dropped are temps to 50’s at night and 70’s during day. So finally AC off, windows open, and sleeping like a baby with the fresh, cool air 👍have a blessed day Cadre.

This is the second post I’ve seen where Stubble Buster has put in some interesting ingredients...I too wonder what the reasoning is?

Well, same shave setup as the previous day with the exception of using the SV Desert Vetiver AS. 2nd shave in a row and the stubble buster actually is a GOOD soap. It’s a rich, lather explosion without much effort. Pretty soft soap, so I’m sure I’m over loading. Don’t care. It was $6. I’ll probably blow through it faster than LNHC. Both my wife and I agree that without it’s fragrance, it smells EXACTLY like a clean towel from a hotel. You know the scent. A white, scratchy towel that has been washed way too many times in water that was way too hot and contained way too much chlorine.
the Desert Vetiver is a decent scent. It’s my first time trying a SV product. I can tell it’s of high quality. The overall scent was alright, not necessarily my cup of tea. The wife agreed.
today I’m trying out Amouage Sunshine Man From a generous sample courtesy of @Dave in KY. The wife and I both like the scent. It has a Eau Sauvage vibe but obviously stronger and with the addition of some exotic scents mixed in as well. 👍👍

not much else to say for today. Not a fan of Monday’s... 5 days of work then on call for the long weekend. At least if I do get called and have to work from home, it’s premium overtime so that would 👌 have a great day Cadre.

first try of a CBL soap. Scent is pleasant but a little light (much better than the stubble buster no-scent!) lathered up fairly well, felt a little dry, so just needs more water than I’m used to with most of my current soaps. Good shave though overall. I’ll continue to dial it in and if I purchase a full tub, will go with the SIR Irisch moos scented one to compliment the AS I already have.
Have a fine day today Cadre.

Gillette Super Speed
Gillette Rubie (1)
Simpson Duke 3 best badger
Proraso Sandalwood cream and AS

Pretty boring set up but really good shave. Had our first “fall” day yesterday, 50’s F and rainy so the warm, inviting scent of Proraso sandalwood seemed appropriate. The Gillette duo worked well. Super speed is not my favorite, but is efficient... too much blade feel, IMO, for such a mild razor.

that was a nice week off from talking about my shaves and myself. This journal thing can be exhausting...have a great day Cadre.

Hmm. I'm going to have to try my black handle SS again soon. I remember it being mild, and fairly efficient... But I don't recall excessive blade feel. Mine is a 1976... Not sure how the year plays into it.

Proraso is a great Autumn scent, definitely a good choice for 50° weather. [emoji106]
