Your Latest Fragrance Purchase

I picked up a few new ones from my favorite oils shop, Majikah Perfumery, at the local RenFest.
I noticed you use these a lot in SOTD posts…. I checked out their site and they have a TON of scents, plus customs! I’m intrigued. 🤔
Anyway, are these pretty wearable, as in generic, run of the mill, designer frag territory, or do they smell like the new age stores selling oils, incense, stones, etc.? Not trying to be funny or offensive, just inquisitive. Thanks 👍

They are solid in the hippy, renfest, dnd nerd, wizard/fantasy arena. No offense taken at all. When I say it smells like patchouli and nag champa it is dead earth and burning incence smells.

Parfum d'Empire - Fougere Bengal

This is a unique take on a Barbershop Fougere that works incredibly well on my skin.
It heavily features Immortale, which can smell a bit like maple syrup, or in the case, curry spices.
Somehow this actually helps create a marvelous barbershop effect, while still feeling like it belongs in the 21st century.

It wears very close to the skin. In fact after using a lot of Nicolai perfumes, I almost couldn't smell it at all on first spray, but as the volume on my nose acclimated to a closer scent, I began to pick it up very clearly. Up close, it's all spice, but the silage is very different, where you just get a fresh, modern barbershop scent.

I appreciate having some high quality scents that aren't total beasts, as I don't like to always be 'the cologne guy' in public. This perfectly fits the bill, and at a distance, is just a very safe, subtle scent, but up close the tiger bares it fangs. It's an awesome effect in my mind.

The buying experience was also quite good overall. Pd'E offers free shipping (at least in the EU) and a free sample set with the samples of your choosing. 50 ml size is all they offer, and at in my estimation for a niche of this quality, very reasonably priced. Even better is along with the sample set, you get a 20€ off code for your next purchase, just like if you'd paid full price for the set.

So on this one, my take is, don't let the reviews put you off, it's actually a very wearable terrific barbershop scent that doesn't feel dated. High marks from me, and I feel like it could become a signature scent.

Diptique is a house I need to try. Eau de Minthe is high on my want to try list. Oud Palalo seems to get a lot of love. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Thanks. The Oud Palao is due to arrive today. I will certainly make my thoughts well-known. (y)

First introduced at New York’s Plaza Hotel in 1840, Jockey Club was off to the races, soon becoming the ubiquitous scent from Saratoga to Churchill Downs. Its patrician reputation was affirmed when John F. Kennedy became a dedicated fan more than a century after its launch.

So I’m down to 4 colognes on my classic men’s bucket list………

{1) Armani Eau Pour Homme
(2) Sport de Paco Rabanne
(3) Floris No 89
(4) Pour Un Homme de Caron

I have three more that I am considering- two that I believe are new classics and one old Classic I had in high school that I should get again.

- Penhaligon Sartorial
- Tom Ford Beau de Jour
- Ralph Lauren Polo Green

my issue with the remaining in the list is that I love Eau Sauvage and Eight & Bob so much that since the cost is high for these (not Creed high, but high enough, except #4 - that is on the normal affordable side) that I’m not sure I wouldn’t just rather get a second bottle of my two classic faves.

TBH I’d stick to your 4 remaining without any problems.

I was really thinking of Beau de Jour, but at the price, I decided that Nicolai Patchouli Intense offered me more, so have that on the way instead.
Sartorial, you have to want that metallic note
Polo Green, probably need to find vintage.

Beau de Jour, but at the price
I’ve been holding off on the Beau de Jour because I have a nice dup from Oakcha - I love the scent - but from what I’ve read - the OG is really Davidoff Zino (and you can get it for under $25)

Polo Green, probably need to find vintage.
I agree - I want to get a vintage because that is the true scent that I would remember
