Words of wisd..... Yeah right.... We all know better than that!

Sorry man, that sucks. Lots to deal with.

And don't worry about running to the post office. I can't even remember that I was expecting something.

Thanks to everyone for the positive thoughts.

I'm waaayyyyy behind in journals, and going to do my best to catch up. I won't promise lots of comments though because as long as it takes me to type, I won't have any time to read.

A little update on the 6S I've been using. After really liking the #4 plate, I decided to brave it and move up to the #5 plate. You know, for science and stuff..

Well..... I hated it. Really rough shave with much many weepers and irritation at the end.
But for science, I decided I was going to do all 6 plates, so I nervously flipped the plate and braced myself for the expected bloodbath.

This is where things went really weird for me.... I loved plate #6! More than the shaves I was getting with 3 and 4 even. So this got me thinking maybe I did something wrong with 5 so I went back to it again. I got the same bad result as the first time.... Back to the 6 and same great shave I got the first time with it?!?!

So now I'm confused. Well..... More so than normal..... I normally don't like aggressive razors, and got a bad shave from plate 5, but here I am loving the mindlessly easy and smooth shave I'm getting from plate 6.

Don't know what the explanation is, but I'm sure there is something. If I had just done one shave of each I could say it was just a bad day, but it's repeatable. Same soap, same prep, same brush, same blade. Only the plate changed.

That's odd. Maybe the folks with more experience can chime in. I know I get better shaves with my Variant at the more aggressive settings. For me I think I'm mindful of the damage it can do and am using practically no pressure. On lower settings it seems I just subconsciously use pressure.

I think I had a similar experience, without the bloodshed. I was surprised at how 6 felt. And now that I think about it, they do reportedly have quite a few QC problems, so maybe 5 is really 6, and 6 is really 5. That's my next guess, but that's making a lot of assumptions.

A lot going on in your life Shawn. Sorry I didn't offer my condolences sooner.

That is weird about the #5 plate versus the #6 plate. But you like what you like.

Still alive and kicking.....
Further behind than I was though. Not much time for anything. I did manage to get a couple photos but nowhere near as interesting as they usually are.

Normal shave photo.

This is a cutting tool that I had to grind at work to be able to do a job. I normally use either brazed on carbide or index-able carbide cutting tools on the lathe. We do have some high speed steel blanks that we can grind into specialty tools when needed. This was one of those.
It's hard to tell but it is actually tapered a bit from the end. It is 43 thousandths of an inch (just under 3/64 which is .0469 as you can see on the rule) at the tip and tapers slightly for relief since it was plunge cutting. I needed to cut a snap ring groove for bearing retention on an idler shaft for our CNC boring machine.

You're speaking Japanese to me, dude. But yeah, it's good to see a post. 🤣 I hope all is well.

It is well known that Dwarvish is the language of smiths, so here's a rough Khuzdul translation guide.

A few more shaves to catch up on.

The V for Vetiver soap seems a bit different. Seems a bit thirstier and creamier than the Tonsorial ones. Not bad at all, but different. I actually think it's as good. I don't know if @CBLindsay did anything different for this one, or if maybe my lathering was a bit different that night. That brush is a bit floppy and lathers differently from the other two. I don't really know anything about the soap though as Chris added it as an extra.

Work has been fairly busy. One of the projects I've been working on is one of our molding machines. Someone at sometime removed a travel limit stop from the table feed. The result was the operator running the table too high and breaking things.

This is the feed assembly in place. I had to support the table with the bottle jack and remove the feed screw and gearbox.

The brass piece is obviously broken. This is what holds against the table and moves up and down the feed screw. I can't make another because it has a metric ACME tread inside. Our lathe won't cut a metric thread and we can't find an ACME tap that size.

Just an idea of the force that was put on the screw, this washer is supposed to be flat......
