Words of wisd..... Yeah right.... We all know better than that!

I was catching up on a few journals and saw an entry in @Somnos journal where @Majorrich and @uacowboy were referring to the Micromatic as some sort of evil shredding machine. I haven't used one in quite some time, but didn't remember it being that bad. So I got one out for last nights shave. Have to say, I got a close shave with no skin loss or leakage. Not sure what you guys are talking about. 😜

Hey now...I spoke no evil! Glad you survived though! Keep that thing in its holster!

Wimps. The MMOC is a great razor.

For my part, it could have been technique, but I was snakebit and best to move it along. I have a uh.. superlight(?) I’m afraid to break out and use. But when someone else has the same problem, I figure it’s the razor. Too bad too, it is in beautiful condition.

The master teaches once again 😜

Been skipping a few photos, but managed to get one in last night.

Been staying pretty busy lately between shop work, work, and babysitting.

Making a new rotary airlock at work so we have 2 spares. When we change them we had to pull both out, replace one and rebuild one then put it back in all in one shot. So now we will be able to just replace both and rebuild them later when it is more convenient.

And what it should look like when it's done.

Love the look of the 400 with a boar knot
Thanks Dave! It was actually NOS when I got it, but the original knot was so stiff it felt like it was soaked in epoxy. I cut it out and went sort of close to original with it and set a Whipped Dog boar in it. Awesome knot that broke in very fast.

My was tough too. I went with a tuxedo. Everytime I see a boar in one it calls to me.

Is that airlock for people?
The dust collectors at the plant work on a vacuum. The sawdust gets sucked up into the pipes and fed to a large cyclone. as it settles in the cyclone it drops to the bottom and is then fed into the storage silo. These set at the bottom of the cyclone and rotate. The sawdust collects between the fins as it rotates and then gets dumped. There are rubber "wipers" on each fin that maintains the vacuum. Those are what wear out over time and need replaced.

So since there seems to be a "for science" theme going on around here lately, I decided to play along.

@NurseDave was awesome enough to send me his 6S to try out, so I have been doing some extensive* research.
He mentioned that no one really ever uses plate #1, and in typical fashion for me, I replied that I was going to be that guy. 😜

So I did. I started right from plate 1 and have been working my way up. I've kept everything the same so I know the differences are from the plate change and not software change.
The lineup (partly out of laziness because it was already out, and partly because I somehow managed to break the bottom of the tub and want to use it up) is CBL cherry blossom bamboo soap, my Rubberset 400, and a Nacet blade which is a known mild performing blade for me.

First impression of the razor is that it feels solid. Very nice construction, great workmanship, tight machining, and a nice design.
The handle is simple, but easy to hold.
The head is a bit deceptive. It looks large and awkward due to the reversible base-plates, but it actually gets into tight spots like under the nose quite easily. It also feels fairly well balanced with the way that I hold it.
It's definitely on the heavy side, but I like that as I tend to push with a light razor.

First shave with the #1 plate was ok. Definitely mild. Actually to the point I had to really pay attention to the angle so it would cut. Pretty small sweet spot with this plate, but ended up with a decent 2 pass shave. I did notice stubble faster than normal despite being a clean DFS/BBS shave.

Plate #2 was a bit better. Felt more like a Tech to me. More forgiving on the angle and an easy no-brainer shave.

Skipped the next day due to a little irritation. Nothing from the razor, but due to a pretty cold day all of the doors were actually closed in the plant and the humidity was back down to 31% and dried my skin out a bit. Having that issue again tonight, so will probably skip again.

Plate #3... This was just a super easy, no thought needed, efficient, drama free, enjoyable shave. I really like this plate. I think the razor with that plate alone would be worth the purchase.

Tomorrow will be plate #4 and will be interesting to see where the shaves go from here. Will it step up a notch? We will see.

Making a new rotary airlock at work
Worked in a mill that had several of these in the dust collection system that emptied into dumpsters. One got plugged and a guy decided it would be quicker to dig it out by hand without shutting things down! The paddles were metal instead of rubber. We never saw him again after the ambulance drove him away.
