Words of wisd..... Yeah right.... We all know better than that!

So since @dangerousdon called me out in @Smattayu journal, here is one for him. What's this Don??? :ROFLMAO:

Sorry @NurseDave , I realize that may have sounded a little snarky.
It's just one of those detail things. Like if I told you so and so couldn't breathe and needed oxygen. You'd know what I meant but would be wondering was it a little trouble and he needed a nasal cannula? Or moderate trouble and needed a mask. Or maybe near full respiratory arrest needing a BVM. (Or whatever they use these days.... It's been quite a while since I've used any of them.)

I did some more shaves with the first sample that @CBLindsay sent with pretty much the same results. Slight tackiness and sort of coated feeling. No further irritation, so I really do think that blade was done.

I moved on to the second sample. This one lathered a bit better. Loaded quicker and worked into a slick lather faster. It was slick, but left a massive amount of blade feel. I had a lot of weepers and that is something I have never had from the injector or a CBL product. Chris said these were all tonsorial based, and this lathered and was slick like the tonsorial I have, but lacked the protection I normally get.
I do think my skin is having one of it's extra dry spells though. I have had cracking that has split open on my hands again the last few days, so that may be playing a part in things.

Post shave did seem a bit better than the first sample though. No tackiness that I had with the first one and the water/gel stuff soaked right in like it normally does. I shave at night usually right before bed, so a real test is how my face still feels in the morning. Today my face felt rough. Not dry or stubble, just a bit rough. First thing at work it was about 18 degrees and I was out in the wind. I really felt it. I've had a sort of sunburned feeling all day. I still feel hydrated enough, just irritated. However, much of that may be from the excessive exfoliation I got from this shave.
I'm probably going to take a day or two off to grow some skin back, then give it another go and see what happens.

Well...I can tell you it's not a toaster!

My guess is that it is 350 V8 with a four barrel carburetor that cam out of a 77 Chevy Impala that is now bolted to the wall?

@dangerousdon well you were right with the first one. It's not a toaster. 🤣
That is the drive motor and gearbox for the sawdust silo. There are augers that rotate around the entire floor and feed sawdust to the center to be fed out to the boiler.
The outside belts make the augers spin. The inner belt runs the gearbox for the unloaded augers. The chain coming from the gearbox works with the timing sprocket to rotate them around the floor.

Love that movie!!!!

In all fairness I know that because I have to work on it. The day I took that photo, I had gone out to PM it. (preventive maintenance) When I was greasing it and checking the gearbox oil level, I noticed one of the belts was cracking, so I had to change it. It was the one in the back of course, so I had to take them all off to do it, but it wasn't too bad.

So some weird stuff going on with my shaving. After getting such a bad couple shaves from sample 2, and 1 wasn't stellar, I went ahead and shaved with CBL Tonsorial lime last night. Same everything else just to see if my skin was being retarded or something. Well, that shave was absolutely fantastic....

So I don't get it... Chris said the samples were Tonsorial based, yet despite getting awesome shaves and post feel from the production Tonsorial, these are giving me fits.
Only thing I can figure is there is something added for the post shave that really doesn't agree with me.

Granted my chemistry knowledge is limited to knowing ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel make a really big bang, and powdered aluminum and iron oxide make a fire that will burn through an engine block. So I am really clueless as to what is going on. I don't know if @CBLindsay can help me out a little, or if it's something he doesn't want to reveal until testing is over.

I'm still going to give sample 3 a go, but I don't want to try 2 again. It's just really rough for me.

Work was better today than it was over the weekend. I ran the lathe all day machining some 5 inch steel down to 3 and a half inches to be able to make some parts, pressing out a bushing and making a new one for a sprocket, and starting on some new pins for that and the other 4 sprockets on that conveyor. So more lathe work for my half day tomorrow.

My thought is that they all use a tonsorial-like formula, but are overall less fine tuned and not as good as the real deal.

If the test samples are giving you fits during the shave then try just lathering with them (in the shower or when ever) rather than shaving with them. You may be able to detect a difference in face feel during and/or post lather and that’s what I’m most interested in having y’all notice...or not. Sample 1 should t give you much trouble, it’s not adulterated in the same ways as the other 2, just toss it them into the bottom of a mug or bowl and soak them with water and load like crazy.

So...your toast got burned?

Since I got called out by @Cvargo for something that guy @Dave in KY seems to have started. (or at least as far as I know, I only heard about it from Chad and he mentioned Dave as his instigator. :ROFLMAO:)

Here is my humble 5,4,3,2,1 And yes Chad, I have a small shaving den... What of it? 😜

(Let's see if I get this right...)
5 shaving soaps in no particular order.

20200102_205543.jpg

- @CBLindsay sent me a small tub of a soap with a scent sample he had gotten after I mentioned wanting a good chocolate soap. I immediately fell in love with the scent and he was awesome enough to make some more for me. Then @Spider had some more made for me in the xmas exchange, and in both formulas!
- @LNHC makes another soap that is an excellent performer for me with great post shave feel. Definitely falls into my personal "elite" status.
- Mystic waters was my first "real" shaving soap and what actually caused me to fall head first down this rabbit hole.
- Vintage Williams (and Old Spice, I'm grouping them together for they are both similar in their excellence and difficulty in finding) is something that I really would like to keep around as it is just a great soap.
- Martin De Candre fougere is a bit of a mystery for me. I really don't like lavender and non-tallow soaps don't really work well for me, yet for some reason I really like the smell of this and it performs extremely well. I've tried other "high end" and artisan non-tallow soaps, but they really don't work, yet this one hits all the marks for me.

4 post shave products.

20200102_210031.jpg

- Captains Choice is ALWAYS going to be in my den. Scott is an excellent person and his aftershaves are great on my skin as well as smelling amazing.
- Clinique hydrator is relatively new to me, but really help to keep my face from being so dry without feeling clogged or greasy.
- The shave tonic feels great and smells great, but the scent dies rather quickly. Since I don't really do much for post shave, I was limited on things to post though, and it does leave my skin feeling good.
I do have to give a mention to the witch hazel KJ mixed up for me though. I've used it a couple times now. I still get some faint weird scent from it that reminds me of the juice pickled eggs are in, but it really does feel good when applied. I think the faint scent is just me picking out what I didn't like about which hazel.

3 brushes.

20200102_205435.jpg

I have a Simpson, Shavemac, Paladin, and a few others, but these 3 are my tops.
Of course you can't deny the excellent craftsmanship @Smattayu displays with every piece that he makes. (Some day when some lazy wannabe bladesmith gets off his butt, there should be a matching straight to go with it.)
And again, another Sorrentino. This one holds even more value as not only was it masterfully crafted, but it also represents some of the best things that have happened to me. First, the awesome site that is a great place to hang out and shoot the... well... you know... Then add that this brush was gifted to me as I was in a hard spot and wasn't going to be able to get one. Another big thank you to the un-named that were involved. It is a constant reminder of the generosity that still exists in the world, and of the many friends I have made here and wouldn't trade for anything.
Then there is my poor little 400 that has to try and follow that act. 😜 The boss actually spotted this one in NOS condition. The knot was so stiff you could have driven over it and it wouldn't have bent, so I re-knotted it with a whipped dog boar and it is just an amazing brush.

2 razors.......

20200102_205251.jpg

The SE/DE thing I could figure out the one that I would keep for my lazy days. That would be my Dandy Shaving DE. Very smooth, very efficient, and fells great in the hand.
Trying to pick a straight though is like asking someone to choose only one kid to keep. But I did limit them to the closest few for the photo.... That counts for something, right????

1 blade

20200102_205939.jpg

I've tried a far number. Nowhere near as many as Chad has though. I like a few others as well, but if I could only have one I'd have to go with the Nacet blade.

I hope I got everything right. And if we have to call out someone else then I have no idea who has and hasn't been done yet.... I'll say @Blade-meister in case he hasn't.
