My youngest got me into this a few years back - so much so I actually bought the graphic novels that it was based on…….The Umbrella Academy, binge watching Season 3 today.

I watched the first two seasons and really liked it a lot. I wasn't big in the Ellen Page character that much and thought she was the weak spot. I get around to this at some point...but just not as excited about the third season.

As I mentioned, I listened to The Terminal List audiobook and enjoyed it. Obviously not Pulitzer material, but entertaining. Anyway, we tried a couple episodes of the Amazon show the other night and… not a fan. Quite a few deviations from the book at the outset and Chris Pratt (James Reece) was not working for me. He just seems like a nut job in the show as opposed to his “smooth operator” portrayal in the book. Maybe it improves as it goes, but I doubt we’ll finish it. Oh well, another situation where the show/movie fails to live up to the book. 🤷🏻‍♂️
So I watched the show first. I am definitely not trying to convince you to give a chance. We each have our own tastes. But I will say that show definitely moves slower than book. That being said...I loved the show. And as it moved on...the show really intensified. My opinion is that the series is actually one of the better series I have ever watched. I am a pretty big fan of Jack Carr...listen to his podcast often. So after I saw the show I wanted to read the book. But I have a several books that I am in the middle of and starting another one just wasn't going to happen. So I decided to listen to the audio book. I am only about a quarter of the way through it, but I can understand why you might not like the show. The book seems to move along significantly faster. I do like how the book begins in Afghanistan as it gives me a certain familiarity, since I spent a good amount of time in some of the places mentioned.

On a side note...I really think every American who bleeds red, white, and blue should read/listen to the preface of Terminal List.

I'll definitely watch subsequent seasons of the Terminal List...and I will definitely read/listen to the other books in Jack Carr's series.

The wife and I binged the first four episodes of the mini-series on AppleTV called Five Days at Memorial. Based on the book by the same name, it deals with the horrors endured by the patients and staff who were trapped in Memorial Hospital, New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.

As someone who lived through some of the bad stuff of Katrina...this will be a hard pass for me. Glad it is good and looks like it has Vera Farmiga in it, who I really appreciate as an actress!

Started watching Sandman last night totally dig it. Though now I know why fans are not happy. John Constantine is Joanna in the show.

I really like this series. Season 2 was a bit lacking, compared to 1. But season 3 was great. I liked how the treated Ellen/Elliot Page's character.

Someone else recommended this show to me. I watched the preview and it didn't look like anything. It was hard to get a grasp of what the show was about or why you should watch it.

I can definitely understand that!

Started watching Bamshee .. 1 episode in and it seems pretty good so far....
Is the show you are talking about?

If it is...I am not saying that it is an award winning show by any means...but it was super fun. Not really going to work your critical thinking skills...but sometimes (and in my case most of the time) you need something that just is entertaining to watch.

Didn't see a thread for House of Dragon so I am posting here.

After the last two seasons of Game of Thrones I am skeptical about this show. But I watched episode one and think this series has some serious potential. We will see.

Second episode of House of Dragon is setting the stage very nicely. There are already characters I like and I don't like. I think this series will do just fine.

I'm almost afraid to watch after the absolute dumpster fire GoT eventually turned into.

I was the same way. I have heard a few things that make me think this series might turn out better. But then again...GoT was really good until the last two seasons.

My wife and I started watching The Patient, with Steve Carell as a therapist. Reminds me of The Bob Newhart Show.

Has anyone started watching the Amazon series Rings of Power?

I‘m a Tolkien fan - I think so far everything is very well done. I know there are a lot of critics and fanboys ripping on the series so far because of the artistic liberties - but I think that is doing the series a disservice - IMO great acting - and visually appealing - looks great in 4K.

I think some don’t understand that Amazon only had the LOTRs rights and not The Silmarillion or the Children of Huron - so they could only use the footnotes and appendices of LOTR/Hobbit to use - so there had to be some liberties taken. I get fans like to stick to the Cannon - but even Peter Jackson didn’t stick completely with the books for both the Hobbit and LOTR trilogies.

To me though - the only things I am finding annoying (but so far can live with) are the “pre-Hobbit” characters (who are getting to be like Jar Jar Binks from Star Wars if you get my drift)……and the fact that I can’t figure out who the dude is that came crashing from the sky - which I am sure will be revealed soon given that the first season is 10 episodes and we are on Episode 3 already.

Other than that - I am enjoying the visual effects and even the “non” Tolkien characters. What say you?

Perhaps thankfully I haven’t read through the LOTR materials for decades. I am enjoying the series so far; it scratches the LOTR itch without having to pull out the LOTR or Hobbit series for the umpteenth time. Hoping to see ep3 tonight!
That’s exactly what I told one of my best friends who is a real fanboy - I said you can listen to the naysayers - or keep an open mind - think of the series as standing on its own with keeping within the ideals of LOTRs - but treat it as a side story. He took me up on the advice and likes it. I can’t believe how much they spent on the show (committed $1 billion over 5 seasons / 50 episodes). I have to say - I enjoy the awe of it.
