There and Back Again, A Wet-Shaver's Tale

4/4 SOTD
Razor: RazoRock Lupo .72
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: Maggard 2-band badger.
Soap: Gentleman's Nod Sir Arthur
Aftershave: Gentleman's Nod Sir Arthur

First run with the new Lupo 72 that finally came in. I ordered it the same day as the Sir Arthur set and it arrived yesterday. I like the looks of it, as well as the low profile head and the fact that it covers the tabs on the side of the blades. I'll be using it exclusively for a bit to get used to it, but the first shave was favorable. Fairly mild but still efficient, I was able to pull off a 2 pass with clean up BBS, though I got careless and it bit my upper lip right under my nose. Still, the shave was good and it shows great potential. And, as always, the soap and AS smelled AMAZING!

Razor
: RazoRock Lupo .72
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Soap: Ethos Grooming Colonia w/Ice Dragon
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Colonia

I ordered some Ice Dragon from Frank and it came in today, so it was necessary to use it for the shave. I added a couple drops to the brush and face lathered. It reminds me a bit of THB's Creeper soaps, as there was not much cool at first, but it built up over time until it was more intense for the amount used than I thought it would be. It worked great, and I can see this being a staple in the den during the summer months. Second shave with the Lupo .72 and it was even better than the first. Got a solid BBS with two passes and a bit of clean up. It felt a bit more intuitive today, and of course the performance and scent of the software was outstanding. I've been really tempted to pull the trigger on a bottle of AdP Colonia Intensa to replace the one that was tragically shot in the drive by a ways back, and every time I use this soap/AS it adds to that desire.

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Glad the Lupo is earning its keep! Hope you have/had a good study this evening!
The Lupo is definitely proving itself so far. I'm at the point now where I'm considering doing a huge den clearing sale. I have so much hardware and software that I absolutely love that if I don't love it I think it's time to start moving it on to someone that might.
It was a great bible study. We just finished up Malachi. Next week is a pot luck and then we're finished up for a bit.

Sweet Pics and Great Shaves! You'll have to let us know about the King Arthur!
Thanks Don! Man, I'm loving that Sir Arthur. It is almost a dead ringer for the Asylum Shave Works Royal Fougere that I posted about in your "What is your favorite GLUG!!" thread. A classic fougere that ticks just about every box in terms of scent and performance. The only downside is that the aftershave has a lot of witch hazel in it, so if go the glug route my face gets pretty tacky for quite a while. Good thing I still have a good half bottle of Royal Fougere left that I can use as a cologne. :D

Ok, the Cohiba box is done, and I'm loving how it turned out.

Sadly the black paper on the underside of the lid tore when I attempted to remove the surgeon general's warning sticker from the upper left side, so I cropped that part out lol. I think it's about time to post some of these on my Hobbyist page and see if anyone wants one made. I'm also thinking of making one for DE's, but I think that will require a particular size and a certain amount of geometry to make it work the way I have it pictured in my head.

The Cohiba box came out awesome! Nice work Eric! Have you used SV’s 70th? If so is Ethos Colonia in the same wheel house? I’m sent challenged but the samples of SV’s 70th in the AS and EDP and awesome.

Thanks! I'm really happy with it, and hope I can find some more of that same box in my tours of the local cigar shops. Lol funny you should mention SV's 70th considering today's SOTD...

The two are definitely different scents, but there are some similarities. The scent strength of Ethos Colonia is stronger, and it actually reminds me of Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrada, which is a tongue-breaker of a name for a very inexpensive cologne that you can get in a 1.3oz bottle for about $4.00. The scent of SV's 70th is both more subtle and slightly more refined.

In terms of performance and post shave Ethos has the edge in both. It is softer than SV(what soap isnt?), but it might be the thirstiest soap I've ever used and I am constantly overloading my brush. I could probably get away with about 2 swirls of a barely damp brush but I always load for about 3-4 seconds and end up with enough lather for 3 shaves. I don't know if you've used that soap yet, but it is outstanding. I'm happy to send you a sample of Ethos Colonia if you like.

Today's shave was excellent btw. The Lupo .72 continues to impress.

Thanks for the comparison! I have Ethos Lavender Supreme and it’s my #1 soap. It just performs so so well. 70th is the only Colonia type scent I can remember smelling and it was love at first sniff. And for $4 I’m gunna have to order some Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrada. I feel ya on the overloading. I’m always scooping way too much of the soap, but I’m surprised how long the 2oz bottle of the splash is lasting. Lol

I definitely agree with John. Beautiful craftsmanship! (y) (y)
Thanks Bruce!

Lol the leader insisted on using the proper Hebrew pronunciation. I considered offering her a face shield in case of accidental spray.

I hear that. I like how Frank puts the smaller limiters in his bottles. It makes it a lot easier to go light on it if you like, and a little of his aftershaves goes a long way.

Razor
: Bauer
Brush: TSC 2nd Anniversary
Soap: PAA Clubguy
Aftershave: Clubman
Frag: More Clubman!

Clubman Friday! I grabbed the Bauer that @MilkCrate sent back to me to see if the edge was still serviceable. Well Tim, it is still good. Three passes and a bit of clean up left me with a very nice DFS+, and a hefty, HEFTY glug(or two) of Clubman insured that anyone in the neighborhood who doesn't like barbershop scents had a bad day. This is one of those razors that I think looks better with some age on it, and I likely won't be restoring it even though it could polish up easily.

Razor
: Max Sprecher 8/8 Midi near wedge
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Soap: Ethos Grooming Greenfresh
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Greenfresh
EDP: Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint

All Star line up today. Ethos Greenfresh set the stage and the Sprecher went through my stubble like a horror movie psycho through a locker room full of cheerleaders. There were no survivors. Chased it with a couple sprays of Aoud Lemon Mint and all is well in my world.

Razor
: Robert Williams SRP Custom
Brush: Sorrentino Turquoise
Cream: AoS Lavender
Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Lavender

Sometimes a straight lavender is just the way to go. AoS are some of the best performing creams I've used, and the scents are always great. Broke out the Williams for today's shave and I really wish I'd been using a honing journal when I did this one. I'm almost positive it was either lapping film or one of the first successes on the Jnat. Either way the edge is marvelous and it handles great. Three passes and a bit of clean up left me with a fantastic BBS, and a nice amount of Ethos Lavender capped it off nicely. The Ethos lavender is just a wonderful earthy lavender that I can see using a lot, and it performs like every other Ethos product I've used, which is to say amazing.

Razor
: Gillette New(?) long comb
Blade: Wizamet
Brush: Switchback 400 w/Gelousy knot
Soap: PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum
Aftershave: PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum

I've been going through the den deciding what to sell in the upcoming purge, and decided to give all my DE's and SE's one more go before determining whether or not to add them to the list. I'm not nearly as well versed in DE's as I am in straight razors, but I believe this one is a Gillette New, and I'm still trying to remember for certain how I acquired it lol. Either way, after today's shave this one goes firmly in the "keep" column. It was a pretty mild razor, but was also incredibly efficient, and I got one of the best shaves of my life from it. Two passes and some clean up left me with a marvelous BBS. Atomic Age Bay Rum also one of my favorites scents and only added to a fantastic experience, with the soap creating a marvelous surface for the New to slide over and a hefty glug of aftershave to cap it all off.
