The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Thanks Chris, and thank you for the generous PIF!

My pleasure, Josh. And speaking of PIFs, I need to break out that blue tip super speed you sent me a while back.

Josh. Yours was the last journal I was behind on. But I am caught up now. I did breeze through some sections because I did watch your videos!

Little twist there at the end. When I saw Penhaligon's I was expecting it to be followed by English Fern. I need to get back there and smell more of their scents.

Thanks Dave...BB is a great lavender/citrus blend with some darker notes lurking in the background. Notoriously short lived, but it pairs very well with any lavender, or lavender / citrus scent, or even straight citrus. For darker lavender scents (blended with cedar, or one of the woody notes), that aren't fougere's, Endymion is a better match. Of course, if it's a fougere you're using, there's only one to use, EF!

Stirling Satsuma | Feather SS Kamisori (4)
Currently on Shave #579 | Straight shave #357

Quick shave this morning, but I still managed to get it recorded and it should be uploaded here shortly. I pulled out Stirling Satsuma this morning as well as the Feather SS. Got a great lather with the Declaration Grooming knot and had pleasant 3-pass shave, with one Murphy visit on pass 2. It closed up eventually, without styptic. It was pure user error, as I came in a bit steep and heavy by my left ear. Combine those two things with a lack of stretching, causes the ouch.

Followed up with the matching aftershave and Clinique Happy EdT, and I'm sitting at an easy DFS...we'll say DFS- due to the loss of vital fluids.

Have a great Friday everyone!

It's funny...I go outside of Louisiana and few people actually know what a Satsuma is (I have a Satsuma tree in my back yard). But yet Stirling has a Satsuma scent...

I'm not an overly huge Stirling fan...but I guess I need this soap.

Sorry for the loss of blood...but a DFS is a good shave in my book!

It's native to China and Japan, so I doubt Louisiana was the inspiration for Stirling......

Great stuff Josh. Sorry for the Murph visit. Hope he doesn't come state side though

Thanks Chad...hopefully the idiots over here took him hostage.

Thanks Don! I know I have some friends from GA who have Satsuma trees as well. The scent is pretty darned nice, for sure. Almost like the Tangerine Creeper, without the cream aspect.

Bummer about the Murphy visit, Josh. But nice set up.

Thanks Chris!

The ninja AC SS strikes again!

Glad it was an otherwise enjoyable shave!

LOL...more like the idiot savant got excited when going XTG and slammed the edge into his skin.

Now that's interesting that it's native to China and Japan...learn something new every day!!

Ariana & Evans Summer Fig | Ali’s Blade 7/8” western Kamisori Full-Bellied Hollow Grind
Currently on Shave #580 | Straight shave #358

Well, I did the video this morning thinking I hadn’t done one on this soap. I was, of course mistaken. LOL. That’s fine, however. Another review video should be posted by the time y’all are reading this. So this soap has kind of grown on me, from a scent perspective. I wasn’t sure I was a big fan when I first smelled it…it was a little sweet, a little dark. The scent notes were enjoyable, for sure, but there was something that just wasn’t…I don’t know…me. But the more I use it, the more I’m really starting to enjoy it. The combination of the bergamot/tangerine up top give a real quick hit of citrus, while the fig gives a darker sweet note which blends really, REALLY well with the floral Jasmine and immediately into the Sandalwood, Oakmoss and Musk. The last of those is just a fleeting impression, which is nice because I’m not the biggest Musk fan. But the Sandalwood and Oakmoss give a wonderful base for the fragrance as a whole to play on.

The soap’s performance is predictably good, particularly on the post shave. It’s still not got the slickness or residual slickness of the Declaration Grooming offerings, but it’s not all that far off either. With a strong soap up to deck, I went ahead and grabbed the bloody Kami from Ali’s Blade. This is a beautiful piece of art that is also a great shaver. It’ll shave some skin off as well if you’re not careful; that spike point is absolutely brutal. I have yet to get through a shave without drawing some kind of vital fluids. Thankfully this morning, I got away with a nice DFS, next to no irritation, (just a couple of small spots), and NO BLOOD. Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner baby!

I followed up the shave with the matching aftershave. Now, this isn’t nearly as sweet as it’s soap counterpart, but is actually to my nose more enjoyable. The Sandalwood and Oakmoss come through wonderfully, with the citrus top notes giving some much needed brightness to the overall scent profile. The fig, which is somewhat sweet, (not cloying), in the soap, just balances everything out and is the table that everything is played on. Well done, well done!

It’s Saturday, which means that Premier League Football (soccer) is on again this weekend. They started the season two weeks ago and my team, Newcastle, have had a somewhat rough start, even though they played really well against Tottenham Hotspur (a top 4 side; they lost 1-2). The second game they ended up drawing against Cardiff 0-0. They played pretty bad that game, but had a chance in the closing seconds to win via a penalty kick. Unfortunately, it was a poor penalty, and the keeper saved it. Our next three games are against Chelsea (another top 4 side), Manchester City (champions last year), and Arsenal (another perennial top 6 side). Chelsea and Arsenal are both at home, so hopefully we can nick at least a point, if not a win in one or both of the games. This weekend Newcastle are playing on Sunday, so we’ll see how things go.

Thanks for reading, have a great day!

Awesome shave! The kami’s blood lust has been sated for the time being.

I hope you get to enjoy your games uninterrupted! *knock on wood*

Actually all citrus trees originate from Asia at some point. I didn't think that Louisiana was the inspiration...but seriously...it's very much a regional fruit...specifically the southeast and south. You just don't see a lot of Satsuma.

Watching your video as we speak and just read this entry. No blood = great shave! I love the way that blade looks...but I am sure that is a more advanced razor and not for an amateur like me! I'm going to pull the trigger on Summer Fig at sometime...I think I would really enjoy that scent.
