The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

I've dodged that am/pm alarm clock catastrophe a time or 2. The relief you feel when you realized the fallout if you overslept is a rush. I'm slowly working towards getting a paladin but I swear if the brush was available I'd probably pull the trigger without thought. Nice shave, have a great day and hope the daughter continues to improve to a full and complete recovery.

Thanks Dave...it was definitely a relief when I figured out what was going on with the alarms and why they didn't go off.

The Creeper!

45 minutes?! That barely enough time to peruse the forum most mornings!

Good quick shave with the General!

I know right?!? Thanks Chris!

Ok...first part of the day done with. I did get a nice (all vegan) mail call today...

First, from WCS:

Wickham 1912 English Rose soap
Wickham 1912 WCS - Le Bleu soap and AS balm
Wickham 1912 Irish Fern AS Balm

Initial thoughts on the soaps: The Le Bleu is a clone of Bleu de Chanel, and from what I can tell it's a pretty good one. I don't own any BdC, (it's on the list), but I've smelled it quite a few times and this seems pretty close from my recollection. SoS off of the tub is a little disappointing, however at about a 2/5. The English Rose however, is a beautiful rose scented soap and SoS is off the charts! at least a 4.5/5 out of the tub! It makes me a little leery that it might give that tingling sensation, but I can't wait to use it.

From Soap Commander:
Recreation soap, AS balm and bath soap
Charisma soap, AS balm and bath soap
Fortitude and Honor bath soap samples

All of these smell amazing, but the Recreation and Charisma are particularly great...possibly on the gourmand side of the house, since they are both melon based scents. But they still smell UH-MAZING.

From Keith at Tomonagura

a 130x70mm La Vignette (most likely, Keith was not quite sure) Coticule with slurry stone

I finally bit the bullet and got myself a coticule. It wasn't that I am not getting good edges off of my JNAT, quite the opposite. But I wanted to try a coti and see what the fuss was about. I'm nto worried that this isn't going to be a good honer, as Keith tries all of his stones before sending them out to make sure they are effective, and to gauge the speed at which they cut.

Nice quick shave today with the Creeper. Also the SC Fortitude is one of my favorite scents. But yes the two melon scents are AWESOME!

Nice set up, albeit a quick endeavor.

Great mail call! And I have that same La Veinette coti, in the same dimension. I got it direct from the Ardennes, and I'm still trying to figure it out.

Looking forward to your review of Le Bleu. I want it based on what it's supposed to smell like, but bummed at your rating of the SoS.

Great shave, read, picture, and mail call Josh!
Blue de Chanel is on my list too, just have to decide which one and then find a deal on it.

Everything I've read, and Chris H. all recommend the EdP verison of BdC.

Wholly Kaw Padre Leone | Klas Tornblom “Bamboo Ferrari” 9/16”
Currently on Shave #542 | Straight shave #335

Another early day, but not for work. I awoke early to get in on the release of the Tangerine Creeper, and went ahead afterwards and re-worked the video and shave for Wholly Kaw’s Padre Leone. I’m still working on a couple of things to add to the videos, so it was a little choppy this morning, but no audio issues this morning, thankfully. I used the exact same set-up as the other day…why mess with a good thing?

The shave went about as expected, with three passes and no bloodshed. The Klas is in great form, the edge from the JNAT holding well. Nice and smooth, but still very keen. Wholly Kaw is a known performer, and this morning was no exception. Great cushion, glide, primary and residual slickness, and the post shave is amazing. The scent on this, after a second use, is very nice. I’m enjoying this almost as much as Fern Concerto or King of Oud. I followed up with the matching splash, some Paladin balm infused with some Pen’s Blenheim Bouquet, then a very liberal application of the wonderful EdT.

Have a great Saturday everyone…back to the work slog for all of you on Monday after the herky jerky week.

Nice shave Josh. I've sampled Wholly Kaw and will get a set soon. Just haven't narrowed a scent that clicks with me enough to pull the trigger. Have a great day.

Mail call:

The Club: American Pie

Impressions from the tub: It definitely smells like apple pie, with notes of granny smith and red delicious apples, along with the obligatory butter, cinnamon and nutmeg spices. But there is something else nice going on underneath that I can't quite pick out yet. I'm sure those notes will come out when it gets lathered up the first time.

I love apple pie.

Is this a club only soap and aftershave? Just curious. It doesn't matter anyway...with the purchases I have made the past week or so...I likely don't need this one...for the moment. But I LOVE apple scents!

So one interesting thing about The Club branded soaps is that because they're only sold through The Shaving Shop Club, he can be a tad bit more risque in how he designs the labeling. This is why he has two separate lines; A&E and The Club branded soaps. They're the same formula, however using goat milk.

Noble Otter The Trail | Jernbolaget 12 ½ 4/8” squarepoint
Currently on Shave #543 | Straight shave #336

Since I missed my video on the 5[sup]th[/sup], I’m going to try to make it three video days in a row to make up the difference. So three days straight of a new soap. Today brought Noble Otter to the table once more, this time with The Trail. This is a coniferous scent, based on evergreen foliage, with the only one I didn’t see on there being cedar. It’s fairly strong off of the tub and just got stronger as the shave went. The lather quality was top notch, confirming what I experienced with The Noir et Vanille. Three passes with the Jernbolaget 12 ½, and aside from one area on the third pass. On the right corner of the chin, I apparently had a rush of blood and decided to try and crank the pressure up to 12 for a half second before I realized what I was doing. There’s a bit of irritation there, but honestly it’s not bad at all…not nearly what I was expecting. And no blood loss. Alum was actually pretty quiet, and I just went with the Omega Acquae Serum followed up with some Penhaligon’s Juniper Sling, which goes pretty well with this soap. (Juniper is one of the lesser scent notes)

The video is currently (as of 5am EST) uploading. It’s a longer video since I wanted to try something a little different. Feedback is always appreciated, positive or negative! I don’t think there is a mail call today, since it’s Sunday, but if there is, I’ll post it up.

Have a great and blessed Sunday everyone!
