The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Thanks Bruce! How I put up with the mediocre shaves that I did for close to 25 years still baffles me. I'm glad I found this way of shaving when I did, though SWMBO still thinks I'm weird...that's fine, she's allowed to judge me. LOL

Josh, after 32 years my wife does not think I'm weird, she knows it! Love your new brush, BTW.

Nice shave Josh. Looks like you and Chad both are getting puzzled with soap lather now. ?

Thanks Dave...yeah, it was a little strange. But still an enjoyable shave.

Watching your video now, and I must tell you I am rather upset with you. Why did you have to make it work? This is one I always figured was overpriced, overhyped, and I could just shy away from it. And now it is added to my want to try list. Darn you JOSH!!!! CURSES!

Glad I could help! Just remember, I'm only the messenger. LOL

Nice shave. I love the ERN.

Thanks Doug! The 204 is a great shaver!

Pretty good looking set up man!

Thanks Tom!

Josh, after 32 years my wife does not think I'm weird, she knows it! Love your new brush, BTW.

Yeah, my wife has given up on trying to normalize me...it's not possible. LOL

The Club American Pie | Gillette Fatboy (G-2) on setting 5 | Perma-Sharp Super (3)
Currently on Shave #546 | Straight shave still on #338

With having to get up early for work, I knew I wasn’t going to have a full set of stubble for the shave this morning, and opted out of using the straight. I waffled on which razor to use, and went with one that doesn’t get enough love from me, even though it’s a great razor. The Fatboy was cerakote’d in blue and silver, (no, I’m not a cowboys fan…far from it), and looks great. It also had the gearing re-clocked to function correctly and within tolerances. I used the same Perma-Sharp blade that I’ve been using the past few DE shaves, this one being shave three.

The soap, I went with The Club’s American Pie. This was Peter’s late June release in celebration of Independence Day. I, of course, didn’t get it until a few days later, so held off for a week or so before actually using it. It’s the same formula as the A&E line of soaps, utilizing goat milk, so I knew I was in for a good shave. I paired it with the Brad Sears 30mm “Yokozuna” CHS 3-band Manchurian, a nice soft brush, ultra-dense, but little backbone, and it does have a tendancy to lose a hair or 5 every shave. Not something that really worries, me, as even if it lost 5 hairs a shave and I use it 30 times a year, it will still be one of the densest brushes I own for the next five years.

The shave, (it’s recorded in full…will be posted shortly), went by, three passes no clean-up without incident until the third pass where I caught a small weeper under the right side of my chin. Nothing major at all. The alum only had something to say in the area of the weeper, (I apparently got a little steep there), and that’s all. Followed up with the matching splash, some serum, and Davidoff’s Hot Water. The spices in the Hot Water matched up well with the American Pie’s apple and spices theme. A nice end to a nice shave!

Have a happy hump day everyone!

Awesome, a Fatboy shave!

Glad the soap was a hit. I’m a little more partial to French Apple pie myself, but I doubt that would translate much differently in a soap; just upping the suger sweetness maybe?

It would be interesting to hear his though processes behind his label choices...

Just got caught up. Nice shaves. Man, you have a variety of soaps and razors at your disposal, don't you?

Soapy Science Rosa Pura | ERN Ator 5/8” swayback
Currently on Shave #547 | Straight shave #339

Great shave this morning with the Soapy Science Rosa Pura! I’ve got a review up on it, so not going to get into that aspect here, but to borrow a page from Chris H’s book, I totally dig this scent!

The Ator skated over the skin this morning, and after three passes I was left DFS+. I followed up with the typical alum (no sting), Stirling witch hazel, topped off with the Somali Rose Elixir by LNHC. Great stuff! A little Sung Homme by Alfred Sung has me walking around in an Irish Spring cloud today. Oh Yeah…awesome stuff!

Mail brought in an order from WCS as well as from Tallow + Steel.

From WCS, a guard for the Feather SS Kami as well as some Abate Y La Mantia Don Jose (coconut/banana/menthol) soap.

From Tallow + Steel the Sicily soap and aftershave. Initial impressions are very similar in scent to Santa Paula…but at the same time quite different. It’s definitely NOT a colonia scent, though a colonia would match well with it.

Have a great day everyone!

Great stuff, Josh! I'm looking forward to getting that Rosa Pura when it becomes available again.

Tallow + Steel Sicily | Jerry Stark 7/8” smiling Frenchie
Currently on Shave #548 | Straight shave #340

First use of Tallow + Steel this morning, and I have to say I’m pretty impressed. It’s not often that you have a soap that lives up to the lofty expectations of the dozens of reviewers that rate the soap base so highly. Of course, they’re very hit and miss with the scents they have out. This one, Sicily, I would imagine is one of their “safer” scents, as it’s citrus based, with a bit of a woody feel to it coming from lavender and rosemary. I quite liked it. The performance of the soap was great, (a full review has been posted; and as of the writing of this, the video review is uploading), and I was given three passes with the big smiling Frenchie of a Stark. I caught a couple of scars under the chin, but those closed up on their own or with the alum (no sting either). All in all, a very nice shave, DFS was the result, and topped off with the matching aftershave as well as some Ferragamo Colonia, I’m channeling some angry Italian / Sicilian mojo on Friday the 13[sup]th[/sup]…daring anyone to mess with me today. I might have to give them an offer they can’t refuse…

Happy hump day everyone!

....Tallow + Steel....they’re very hit and miss with the scents they have out....

The understatement of the year. Come to think of it, I haven't seen a "hit" yet!

How dare you threaten me with it not being the end of the work week!

Great read Josh. Enjoy your mid work week, I am going to enjoy the weekend.

You do that...it's always mid-work week out here. LOL...they're all hump days. But, the good thing is there are NO Monday's!

Abbate Y La Mantia Don Jose | Friodur 472 6/8”
Currently on Shave #549 | Straight shave #341

Yet another new soap, in Abbate Y La Mantia’s Don Jose. I’ve been looking at AYLM for quite a while now, but never really having the gumption to pull the trigger. The price was a little more steep than I was willing to spend, (especially when combined with the aftershave, which I ended up not getting), and I’m honestly pretty happy with the soaps I have. But, when ordering a much needed guard for my SS Kami, I threw the soap into the cart, just because.

Now, this is supposed to be scented as coconut, banana and menthol. I’ll go into more depth in the review I’m writing, but it’s as advertised. The soap is definitely an Italian soft soap, (read: croap), to the point when I got it, it had shifted all to one side and I had to smoosh it evenly across the bottom. The lather is right in line with what I have experienced with other Italian croaps, such as P.160, a bit on the airy side, but nice. Three passes with the Friodur and I walked away with a nice DFS+. I do not have anything that matches a coconut/banana theme, so I used some Nivea sensitive with cooling balm. Topped off with some WSP Matterhorn EdP, and it was a good start.

Mail Call today...the second part of my Tallow + Steel order. This time it's the Kyoto scent.

I'll just say that the packaging on this is as good, if not better than anything else I have in my den with the possible exception of the Creepers. The label is made out of waterproof fabric...awesome!
The scent has a heavy citrus touch and is immediately followed by an evergreen/cedar note. Quite different, and honestly very nice.

Happy ground-hog day everyone!
