The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

The shave, with prep and clean-up included, only took 20 minutes. That’s for three passes AND a clean-up pass on the neck. The result? BBS- all over…amazing!

Getting caught back up and I was way behind. Glad to hear your daughter is on the mend.

Great reads and pics!

So it looks like Oleo Soaps are going to be a bust. Sorry about that, but such are the ways of shaving. Fine American Blend was my favorite after shave scent three months into into traditional wet shaving. It's still top three at the least and it might be a tie for the number one spot! Was super happy to discover that Fine Accoutrements made the EdT!

I love the humor with your Brit Friend! Sounds like something that I would do. Thanks for doing what you do and I hope today is a peaceful one. I remember my time in the 'Ghan and unfortunately the fourth wasn't a holiday for us. Keep alert and stay safe my friend.

Thanks Don! I love FAB as well...such a great scent! I'm not writting off Oleo just yet. The soap base works wonderfully, but there's something in the fragrance oils she's using that just doesn't agree with my skin. I wish she would have published the fragrance list so that I could possibly pinpoint what it was. I'll just have to tread very carefully from here on out with Oleo...I might have gotten lucky with the Rougere.

I'll settle for the read entry with coffee. Sounds like a great shave. Have a great day!

Thanks Dave!

Great American shave today. That is hilarious about the shirt and your friend.

Thanks Don...he actually enjoyed wearing it.

Happy 4th, Josh. Love the story with your Brit colleague!

Thanks Chris!

Gotta snag a photo of the shirt! I’d totally wear something like that, lol!

Good shave Josh. Have a safe 4th!

Thank you Chris! It's basically this picture on a black shirt...lol

Been there man. I took a full Den over there with me, and brought at least 3 times that back. But looking at your mail calls.... I’m pretty sure you’ve got me beat. Maybe get 3 gorilla boxes!

Thanks KJ...It might just take that many to get a lot of this home. I'm going to have to put much of the frags and AS's on the rotator when I finally leave, btu I'll be able to send the soaps and everything else via mail.

Catching up Josh!

Some great shaves, reads, reviews, and pictures!

Thanks Craig!

Might I suggest bubble wrap and masking tap on the lids.

Basically from what I understand is that Ebonite is hard synthetic rubber.

That's what I understand about it as well, but I haven't read up enough on it to make any kind of statement. I typically do that with most of my stuff anytime I travel.

Wholly Kaw Padre Leone | Klas Tornblom 9/16” “Bamboo Ferrari”
Currently on Shave #540 | Straight shave #334

Even though I had a rough night, I woke up refreshed and ready for the shave. It was a video day, so I got everything ready and went through with the shave. Wholly Kaw’s Padre Leone was the soap of choice, and it provided a wonderful lather for the Klas “Bamboo Ferrari” Tornblom to play around on. Three passes later, and I was walking away DFS and extremely happy!

I went to move the videos, and start post production on the video so that I could get it posted in a reasonable time. Get them in and check them, BAM! No audio. No sound whatsoever was recorded on the clips…so all that audio was useless. I debated doing a voice over, but it wouldn’t have looked right, and honestly I didn’t have time to do all of that. So I ditched the video and am debating re-shooting the video using the same set-up tomorrow, changing the razor, possibly. The written review is up for reading, however, so it wasn’t a total loss.

Mail brought in a delivery from one of our vendors, Lisa’s:

Gentleman’s Lavender soap and Elixir
Somali Rose Elixir

Looking forward to giving these a try and getting a video shot for them.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Since you have tried a few, maybe you can email the soap maker and tell them which ones are affecting you. maybe they would have an idea of what oil is the culprit. It's likely they don't want to publish the entire list because of proprietary reasons...or maybe they just get the FO from a common source and don't want to disclose it. Either way...it's worth a shot. I do wish though that soap makers would list all components of a soap to include EOs and FOs...there are so many things out there that cause various people allergies.

I'm honestly not too terribly concerned about it Don. Most likely it's an FO that was used instead of EO that my skin just doesn't agree with. Honestly, if that's the case, then as much as the Canard base is a good soap, it just won't be for me due to the use of FO's. Not a knock on the soapmaker at all, if all they used was EO's, the costs of soaps would be through the roof, so I'm all for using FO's to keep costs down.

I read your full review of the new WK soap, and too bad that it's on the subtle side in terms of scent. Of all the WK soaps that I've used, one stands out as the strongest, and it's definitely one of my favorite soaps ever; that's the Chypre Rose Concerto Special Edition (w/donkey milk).

Wow, that blows about the video. Are you recording with your phone? I'm wondering how something would just turn off the mic.

Great stuff Josh. Looking forward to the review on Lisa's. Her post shave elixirs are fantastic.

Josh, fell way behind on your journal, but just got all the way caught up.

Some amazing acquisitions, both hardware and software! I hope your daughter is on the mend and that she recovers completely. Encephalitis is a bad disease, for sure. Sounds like she had a relatively mild case? I certainly hope so.

Cool that you picked up the Rosa Pura from Soapy Science! I also hear they have a couple of other new scents on the way, including one I think they are going to call "Melon Bay" that is a mix of watermelon and bay rum. Hmm....sounds intriguing.

Anyway, my best to your daughter. Prayers on their way.....

Getting caught up! Great stuff.

Thanks Chad!

Chypre Rose Concerto is one of my favorites from them too, just behind the others I mentioned. This one is nice as well...if pressed to rank them I would probably go in this order:

1. King of Oud
2. Fern Concerto
3. Chypre Rose Concerto
4. Padre Leone
5. Tempest

I am using a phone, (Samsung Galaxy S5), but the mic goes out if anything is plugged in. That didn't happen this time around, so not sure what happened. I'll just have to make sure that I do a test clip to ensure that it's working prior to making any videos from here on out.

Great stuff Josh. Looking forward to the review on Lisa's. Her post shave elixirs are fantastic.

Thanks Eric! Looking forward to using it and giving a review!

Great shave and picture Josh!

Bummer about the video!

Great Mail Call!

Thanks Craig!

Nice shave and mail call. Looking forward to your thoughts on the elixirs

Thanks Dave...it should be in the next couple of days.

That is too cool, going on the must acquire list!

Bummer about the video sound, maybe it can be a Bad Lip Reading TSC style? Lol.

That would be awesome.

I'm HORRIBLE at lip reading, especially on myself....lol.

Thanks Randall. She had a pretty hard time with it, and we're glad we caught it when we did since if it progressed any further, there's a high likelihood that I would have had to fly home since she would have been hospitalized in real bad shape. She has a weakened immune system due to the Humira, (for Crohn's), so this really wreaked havoc with her body to the point that she was experiencing some neurological effects from the encephalitis....which is only seen in less than 1% of pediatric patients, according to the infectious disease Dr.'s up in St. Louis.

Melon Bay sounds interesting, though I'm not too sure about the Bay Rum in there. I like Bay Rum overall, but it still falls down pretty far in the pecking order of favorite scent profiles.

The Holy Black Lavender Creeper | The Colonial General Brass | Feather Super Pro (4)
Currently on Shave #541 | Straight shave still at #334

Very early day for me. Thankfully I woke up on time, as when I reset my alarms, I didn’t check to see whether it as AM or PM. Der! I was planning on doing the same shave as yesterday, filming again with sound this time, but I was left with less than 45 minutes to get everything done before I had to be ready. So that wasn’t going to happen. I also didn’t have that much stubble since I was shaving about five hours early. So I needed something quick, efficient, and thoughtless. Bring on the General! I grabbed the Lavender Creeper by THB as well and the Shavemac brush Silvertip 2-band. I was able to whip out a great lather, 3-pass shave in a little over 15 minutes, no feedback from the alum or post shave products, and was able to get out the door with a few minutes to spare.

I did debate filming the entire quick shave, but that will have to wait for another shave since I was so pressed for time. No EdP this morning, but just a little Paladin balm infused with some Chatillon Lux Champs de Lavande AS splash, and some splash on top. This is some good stuff, and the longevity is upwards of 6-8 hours on a hot day. All in all, it's nice to know that at any given time I can whip out a real fast shave that is non-irritating and smooth. Lord knows that will make SWMBO happy...

Not going to have too much time to get on the forum the next two days, but I’ll sneak some time in periodically.

Thanks for reading and have a great Friday and Saturday everyone!

I've dodged that am/pm alarm clock catastrophe a time or 2. The relief you feel when you realized the fallout if you overslept is a rush. I'm slowly working towards getting a paladin but I swear if the brush was available I'd probably pull the trigger without thought. Nice shave, have a great day and hope the daughter continues to improve to a full and complete recovery.

The Creeper!

45 minutes?! That barely enough time to peruse the forum most mornings!

Good quick shave with the General!
