Long Rifle Hawkeye | 48-51’ Gillette Aristocrat | Perma-sharp (2)
Currently on Shave #535 | Straight shave still at #330

Going to be making my entry early, and not going to be able to get on too much in the next few days as work is going to be busy...well at least full of learning. Another day with Hawkeye by Long Rifle, and after yesterday’s Murphy visit, I decided to grab one of my safety razors. I chose the Aristocrat, as it’s one of my better DE’s, and it really doesn’t get all that much use. I think I’ve used it once since returning to theater. (it was the razor I used while I was back home recuperating) I threw the Perma-Sharp blade that I broke in the other day with the Timeless for its second shave. Making lather was the Rudy Vey 26mm Butterscotch “Chubby” TGN 2-Band Finest.

Nothing out of the ordinary this morning, truth be told. I went with a bit wetter of a lather, did my normal three passes, then actually went ATG on the neck for a clean-up pass. The result is DFS on the face and BBS on the neck…very nice. Alum sting was minimal, and with the matching aftershave as well as Paladin balm, my face feels wonderful.

Had a couple of treatments to the SOTD photo and couldn't decide which one to go with, so I'll post both. Not sure which one y'all like better, let me know!

Mail Call!

An order from Wholly Kaw in their donkey milk formulation, Padre Leone. This was the father’s day release and it’s reminiscent of Monaco Royale, with a little bit darker tone to it. Quite nice, though it’s pretty weak off of the tub, probably a 1.5-2/5.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Great couple of shave sans the Mr. M visit Josh!

Good job on the honing and correcting the edge!
Hmm I think I like the B&W shot better.

A new Wholly Kaw? Interesting.

And I vote Photo 2 - definitely.

Thanks Chris...it's an interesting one that I'll be getting to in the next week or so for a review.

Thanks Craig! The razor was a bit of a bear to hone, but I got it where it needs to be, finally. Hopefully it will keep an edge for a while.

Short entry today....

Wild West Shaving Company Ace’s & Eights | Hartford Cutlery 5/8” Extra Hollow Ground
Currently on Shave #536 | Straight shave #331

Had to be a quick shave this morning with another new soap, as I was up late speaking with SWMBO and got up resultantly a little later than I would have wanted in normal conditions. All the same, I got a great shave. WWSC’s Aces & Eights got the call for new soap day, and the only mishap was one tiny scrape/nick just under my bottom lip on the 2[sup]nd[/sup] pass from getting my angle a little too steep. It stopped bleeding by the end of the pass, and it was only a drop at that, so very minor. The Hartford was in great shape, nice and smooth and taking no prisoners with the whiskers in its path. Still a bit of anamalic funk going on with the Shavemac, but that will go away eventually. Three passes resulted in a nice DFS+ and zero irritation from the alum. I forewent an aftershave splash this morning, instead going only with the Omega Aquae Serum and some Penhaligon’s English Fern instead...you can NEVER go wrong with the Fern! I'm also trying to kill off this 50ml bottle I have so I can break into the 100ml vintage EF that's waiting in the wings.

Not sure if they're going to get mail today, if so, and I get a package or three, I'll post a separate mail call entry.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

So a lot of Poker in the downtime? I have said it before, but I love that ebonite brush!

Great read, bummer about he bite!

Love the picture!

Thanks Craig...the bite was honestly no worse than a very bad (and small) patch of razor burn.

Thanks Don! Not so much time for poker out here, but I enjoy going and playing live games and tournaments when I'm home and have the opportunity.

I like playing poker myself. Though I haven't played in ages. For a few years a while back I played a lot of the local games in and around the Baton Rouge area. I'm not even going to pretend that i was any good. Some days I was on and other days...well i wasn't. I think I have played in about five or six tournaments. Most of them were about 100 entrants or less and small buy-ins. I won one tourney (about 130 entrants), came in forth on another one (about 75 entrants), and performed miserably on the others (went out on first hand with one of them...come on...I had pocket Kings and flopped another one...turns out the other guy caught a full house on the river). Anyway...I didn't make really anything in regular games and priorities shifted and I decided that it wasn't something I could afford anymore. I would love to get back into a casual game once in awhile though...it's just fun!

Casual poker for me only. Never have liked betting stuff I couldn’t afford to lose. Nice photo setup though and that is a very interesting handle on the brush, acrylic?

Thanks TJ! The handle is a material called ebonite...not sure if its a type of acrylic or not. But it's nice in the hand and warms up to body heat level pretty quickly. I'm responsible with it now, not so much when I was younger and prior to marriage, but it's something I enjoy when I get the opportunity.

SOTD – Monday, 2 July, 2018 – Birthday Shave
Ariana & Evans SoCal Hipster | C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31
Currently on Shave #537 | Straight shave #332

Stepping away from Long Rifle for a couple of uses for my birthday and the 4[sup]th[/sup]. Today, I wanted to use a soap that I really, really enjoy using; both from a scent and performance standpoint. There were a couple that I was looking at, including Declaration Grooming’s Champs de Lavande, Lavender Creeper, MdC original (lavender), B&M’s Adagio, Stirling Piacenza, Wholly Kaw Fern Concerto and Chypre Rose Concerto, Stirling Iced Pineapple, A&E L’Orange Verte…it’s a hot day so soaps such as WK’s King of Oud, Lisa’s Coconut Oud, Fine Santal Absolut, were out. So many great soaps to choose from, it’s almost overwhelming. I thought about it, and decided to go with a soap that just truly reminds me of this day…sitting out by the beach or on a lake. That soap was SoCal Hipster. Such a great summer scent with the citrus and tropical top notes and some sandalwood rounding out the base.

The rest of the set-up is a combination of items that are just my favorites. The razor was an easy choice, the C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31, the first Swede I owned. Brush, it had to be the Paladin 28mm Manic Depression brush. This is such a great knot and handle combination, and the loft is perfect with the fan shape. Rounding out the entire shave was the Amouage Sunshine Man EdP. I really need to get a full bottle of this, but that might have to wait a while….until then it might just be more decants to hold me over.

If I had to choose one word to describe this shave, it would be enjoyable. I actually did four full passes today, unusual for me. The fourth pass was nothing more than a 2[sup]nd[/sup] XTG pass, so more of an angel’s pass than anything else. I took the lather left in the bowl and brush out and used my had to spread it on the face. There was a few spots that were missed first time around, so those were cleaned up. Even after four passes, the alum really didn’t have anything to say. Some very liberal use of the aftershave (10 glugs into the hand?) and a few vasiliy’s of the Amouage…can you say happy? Very pleasant all the way around!

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Catching up, Congrats on some great shaves with great gear. I see Sunday you used "MY" brush again. When you get fed up with the funk let me know. LOL, Man I LOVE the look of that thing. Cheers, Dave
