The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Good stuff Josh. And yes the Perma-Sharps are some of my favorites. A Timeless shave is always a great shave. Honestly I haven't found a blade that doesn't work in mine. I even got a great shave with those Dorco 300 blades.

Great Shave Josh! I tried a Timeless once but it was the blad gap up and down from yours (.98 and .64 gaps...I think) I did find the Timeless probably the most efficient razor I have tried. But the blade gaps were either to aggressive or not aggressive enough. I think the .78 that you have would likely be perfect.

Thanks Don! I'm tempted to get the closed comb version of the bronze as well, but it has a small .38 blade gap, not sure what to think of that.

Those Perma-Sharp blades are excellent!

After one use, I find nothing to argue this statement!

Normally the Voskhod's are good blades for me, but they just were not very smooth in the Timeless OC. If I had the solid bar it might be different...

Did he just utter the word DE in these hallowed journal halls of Josh?

This made me LOL in the office...hahahahaha

Great couple of shaves, reads, and pictures Josh!

Glad to hear they know what is wrong with your daughter! Praying for a full and speedy recovery!

Ariana & Evans | Feather SS AC | Feather Pro-Guard (1)
Currently on Shave #532 | Straight shave #328

Ariana & Evans had been hinting at releasing this soap for a while now as part of their destination series of soaps, and I was itching to see what the scent notes would entail. When I found out it was a type of fougere, they had me hook, line and sinker. I was a little worried about the scent off of the tub, because I was only getting a very faint whiff of the lavender and geranium that typically makes up the top notes of a traditional fougere. Now, I wasn’t expecting this to be a typical fougere in the vein of Houbigant Fougere Royale, MdC Fougere, or English Fern. But this almost smelled like a floral tinted French vanilla coffee off of the dry tub.

Once I lathered it up, however, it really bloomed out into an awesome, dark fougere. It’s a bit reminiscent of B&M Beaudelaire, without the overwhelming smokiness to it. Unfortunately, there’s something that didn’t agree with my skin, as I had a bit of tingling, though it didn’t quite get to the “burning” sensation that some do. I grabbed the SS today and was able to achieve a nice DFS, with one bit of leakage, (Murphy has been having a blast out here guys), where I wasn’t paying attention to my angle when covering the curve of my chin and kind of scraped just a bit. No real blood, but it did give a bit of feedback with the alum and aftershave in that one spot…otherwise it was a superb shave!

I finished off with the matching splash and some Endymion Concentre, and truth be told, I’m still getting whafts of the aftershave even four hours later over the top of the EdP! Impressive indeed…I’ll try the soap again sometime in the near future to see if I still have that tingling…it might have been just a one off.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Good stuff Josh. Watched the video this morning while reading through some journals. Sucks about the skin irritant. The overall scent though does sound nice though.

Nice write up and video Josh, have a great day!

Thanks Dave!

Thanks Chad...it's ok about the tingling. I'm going to do a test lather sometime later on in the next few days and see if I get the same feeling. The scent was very enjoyable. I'm still getting whiffs of the aftershave even now and it's 10 hours later!

Great review, shave, and picture Josh!

Hope the tingle was just a thing and not a reaction.

Long Rifle Hawkeye | Jerry Stark 7/8” Smiling French Point in horn
Currently on Shave #533 | Straight shave #329

Nothing much to say about the shave this morning other than it was very nice. I’m getting to the point with the Long Rifle that my lathers are becoming predictable, which is a great spot to be in. It’s not the (preferred) creamy lather that I get from soaps such as DG, WK, A&E or NO; but it’s good in its own right. I used the big Yokozuna this morning, a Brad Sears 30mm 3-band Manchurian fan. This thing is by far the densest brush in my den, with the softest tips. But the backbone leaves much to be desired, typical of many 3-band knots. However, loading generally isn’t an issue with most soaps and Long Rifle was no exception. The only thing I’ll say is that the tub is a little small for a brush this size, but that’s not a knock on the company as they offer two different size tubs, this one (a 3 oz. tin) and a larger tub with a bit more soap. This is a harder soap than most, not quite triple-milled hard, but definitely not a croap. It’s slightly harder than Mystic Water, and just a tad softer than MdC. After about a week of use every other day, (five uses) I’ve made about a 7g dent in the soap. Since I don’t know exactly what I started with or how much the container weighs, I’m guessing I’ll still be going at it well into September.

Three passes went by without a visit by Mr. M, thankfully for a change, and just a touch of redness immediately after the shave that has since cleared up. DFS is the call, no + or BBS-. The original edge is still going strong. Followed up with the solid pairing of the matching aftershave, Paladin Balm and Penhaligon’s Endymion to round everything out.

Tomorrow will be another review video, this time covering Barrister & Mann’s Patches. I’ll tell you now that off of the tub, I definitely get the strawberry candy vibe from it, unlike Tumbleweed Chad. Chad, you do realize that even though you’re trying your hardest to grow that stuff under your nose, you still need to trim your nose hair, right? That stuff impedes your sniffer! (hehehehe)

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!
