The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Chad, you do realize that even though you’re trying your hardest to grow that stuff under your nose, you still need to trim your nose hair, right?

If he trimmed his nose hair he wouldn't have anything on his upper lip!

Nice Shave today!

Oh youse guys!

I don't believe I said it smells like tumbleweed LOL. But I am serious this late summer when the tumbleweeds start blowing you are ALL being sent pieces of tumbleweed in the mail! Hopefully I don't break any rules mailing an invasive weed!

Great photo, Josh!

Thanks Chris!

Bring it! It'll fit in perfect with the foliage around here! LOL

I'm just jealous a majority of your shaves recently have ended with Endymion. You could shave with Col Clonk and still have a great shave when you end with that!

Thanks Dave...I fell in love with this scent when I first got it. Bonus that SWMBO likes it too!

Some very nice shaves Josh, and I'll have to check out the Patches review. Doing a little catching up, and I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter went through that. West Nile is not ideal by any stretch, but out of most alternatives it is still one of the better ones. We'll keep her in prayer.

Great shave, read, and picture Josh!

But then again

More goodness, per usual! Looking forward to hearing about Patches!

I sense a new forum title coming “Soap Guinea Pig”. Thanks for letting us experience all these soaps vicariously through your journal!

I do like that Stark Josh. I have yet to smell any Penhaligon scents except English Fern. But Endymion is on the list at some point to try. SWMBO got me a knock off of Aqua Di Gio Black and I am curious if the original is better because she loves the knock off.

Thanks TJ! Endymion is a must try! Get a sample decant of it first to see if you (and SWMBO of course!) enjoy it before making a full purchase. I would do this with any higher end frag, especially from a niche (not designer) house, if possible. If you're curious about the notes, Fragrantica is a good resource along with Basenotes.net. The nice thing about Fragrantica, is it will give you similar frags to the one you're looking at if you scroll down, along with some reviews. The one detractor for Endymion is the longevity is lacking a bit, (at least in the regular version), but it smells too good not to wear for me.

So the Aqua di Gio Black you're referring to is most likely the Aqua di Gio Profumo, which is the latest release in the Armani AdG line-up. It's a bit spicier version of the original, with MUCH better performance; Sillage and longevity at least double, and it's good for a year round fragrance. That's most likely going to be my next frag purchase along with Bleu de Chanel EdP.

Barrister & Mann Patches | Ali’s Blade 7/8” full bellied hollow kamisori
Currently on Shave #534 | Straight shave #330

Finally was able to get to the stones last night with the Ali’s Blade Kamisori. I did some strategic placement of tape along the spine to even out the width across the length, resulting in a much more even bevel, and also allowing me to get a usable edge along the entire length of the blade. HHT was very good, so the only thing left to do was to see how it would do in an actual shave. Bring it on…

Also, we brought out another new soap in Barrister & Mann’s Patches. Usually, I wouldn’t be using a new soap with a freshly honed blade, but B&M’s Glissant base is a known performer, so I was not worried about dealing with a sub-par lather for the blade to skate around my face on.

The soap lathered as expected and gave a nice shiny base for the razor, however that didn’t keep me from sticking the pointy end in my right cheek when doing my mustache. Just a little bit, not a filet thank goodness. The razor’s edge was on point, a little on the harsh side at first, but quickly calmed down to a nice balance of smooth/sharp. Three passes later, I was DFS+, albeit with a couple of other spots where the toe of the blade dug in. I’m just not used to the pronounced toe, so I paid the price. Nothing a little alum and styptic couldn’t fix, and nothing that was going to be long lasting.

Topped off with the nice citrus fruit of the Clinique Happy and all was good going into work.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Hey! Where's the video man!

Sorry about the bite!

Video has been trying to upload for about four hours now...just restarted it a little bit ago, so should be ready and linked in about an hour. Written review has been posted.

Sounds like a great job on the honing, Josh. And those points - oy, they can be treacherous.
