The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

No other suggestions for the soap tomorrow? Well, between the two that got votes, I'll go with Noble Otter as I've yet to try one of their soaps. The Noir et Vanille it is!

Great read, shave, and picture Josh!

As to which soap to do next, heck just go left to right, or right to left, or alphabetically. Really doesn't matter to me.

Noble Otter Thé Noir et Vanille | Eiko 6/8” near wedge
Currently on Shave #530 | Straight shave #327

Another new soap today in Noble Otter’s Thé Noir et Vanille. As with any other time I use a new soap base, I went with a synthetic brush, and what better to use than the TSC Legacy brush. Razor for the day was the Eiko…I love this razor and the way it looks, but have always had issues getting an irritation free shave from it. This would be a great test for the new soap, indeed. I’m not going to get into the performance or views on the soap, as there is going to be a written and video review posted shortly.

Suffice to say, three passes left me DFS, and I did catch myself on pass three due to a hard touchdown on the right mandible, but there was no seepage from it. User error only as I was a little hasty in my stroke. I didn’t bother going with a splash afterwards, somewhat unusual for me, but instead went with the A&E Post-Shave serum No. 3. I used a tad bit too much, but was able to work it into my skin very well. Topped off with the Tom Ford Plum Japonaise and it’s a great start to the day.

Thank you so much for all the prayers for my daughter, they paid off. She had passed out at home and SWMBO took her in on Friday night to the ER, where a battery of tests were run. Come to find out she had some fluid around the brain with some swelling, and her white blood cell count was high. There were some really scary possibilities out there, some of which would have necessitated me resigning my position out here to be with the family. Some massive doses of antibiotics were given to her and it was just a waiting game to see the results of the bloodwork. After about 36 hours of walking on eggshells, we finally got some news yesterday. West Nile Virus, and she was displaying symptoms only seen in less than 1% of people who have this. There is nothing else that can be done aside from a month of recovery and regimen of additional antibiotics. We’re pretty relieved, as some of the other possibilities were downright horrifying. So if you see something in the papers about a case of West Nile Virus popping up in southern Missouri, yep…that was us.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Yes, just off the top of my head I can think of some really bad conditions that relate to swelling around the brain, I am very happy it isn't one of those. While contracting West Nile isn't ideal...at least it isn't as bad as some of the alternatives. I will continue to say a prayer for her and the rest of your family as I believe that West Nile does take some time to clear from the body. Glad she is okay!

Goodness, Josh! Glad that the docs were able to determine your daughter's condition and get her effective treatment. Thanks for the update, and continued well wishes.

Hey Josh getting caught up. Also listening to your last two videos.

Nice stuff! My vote I want to hear your impressions of the Patches.

I am very, very glad that your daughter is on the mend and that it wasn't one of those other possibilities.

Nice shave with the Noble Otter today.

Thank you for sharing the update on your daughter. In terms of scary stuff, anything brain related is way up there for sure. Glad they were able to get a handle on it and the plan is working.

Glad your daughter’s condition wasn’t any of the extreme conditions! Great that the West Nile was identified and treatment is in progress.

Thanks Don...we're pretty relieved with the diagnosis, all things considered.

Long Rifle Hawkeye | Timeless Bronze OC .78 | Perma Sharp Super (1)
Currently on Shave #531 | Straight shave still at #327

I really wasn’t feeling the straight this morning for a couple of reasons. I didn’t pull everything out yesterday, which is my norm. Plus, I have a few new DE blades waiting to be used and wanted to get into a few of them, so there will be a few DE shaves sprinkled into the coming weeks’ shaves. Today I grabbed the Timeless Bronze OC, which has a .78 blade gap. The last time I used this, I went with the Voskhod’s, and they weren’t as smooth as I would have preferred, and it almost turned me off of the razor. So, with a bit of hesitation, I grabbed the Perma Sharps, a blade that I’ve heard some pretty good stuff about and the Timeless again.

Since it’s an even day, Long Rifle was the software of choice, and not wanting to mix too much up, I went with a known pairing with the Endymion. After the fact, I did grab the Omega Aquae serum to give some additional moisturizing properties. The Semogue 830 was the lather maker. The lather, after a 20-30 second load was a bit on the airy side of the house, which is the norm for this soap, but with the boar, it’s a little more pronounced. I’ve noticed that the boar brushes I have tend to push more air into the lather than I’m used to. The performance wasn’t affected however, and after my standard 3-passes, I walked away with an irritation-free DFS. I did catch a zit on my chin, but I don’t count that against the shave results. Alum gave no feedback, nor did the aftershave.

These blades were SMOOTH! I really enjoyed this shave with these DE blades…to the point that I’m almost willing to buy in bulk already…adding to the Personna Platinum (red), Voskhod’s and Astra’s I already have. I still have quite a few other blades to try out, and am still hankering to give the Gillette Nacet blades a try, as those have gotten some pretty good reviews as well. All in all, a good shave to start the day!

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

Nice shave Josh. I read good things about nacets but there meh for me. My go to are GSB or Pol Silver Super Iridium. I'll send a tuck to try if you don't have any and want to try them. I have and enjoy the perma sharps too as well as Israeli reds.

Thanks Dave! I'm probably going to pick up a tuck in my next order at Maggard, but thanks for the generous offer!! If they aren't for me, then that's just another blade tuck I have to PIF out to people out here who I get into traditional wet-shaving!

Great Shave Josh! I tried a Timeless once but it was the blad gap up and down from yours (.98 and .64 gaps...I think) I did find the Timeless probably the most efficient razor I have tried. But the blade gaps were either to aggressive or not aggressive enough. I think the .78 that you have would likely be perfect.
