The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Sorry to hear about your daughter, hope things are resolved quickly.

I’m looking forward to getting time to watch the video. I’m sure I’ll be ordering more A&E in the future. It’s just a matter of which ones.

First of all Praying for your Daughter Josh!

Great shave sans the Mr. M visit! Great picture and read!

Thanks Dave. Enjoy the vid...and there's plenty to choose from in the A&E line-up. I found out what the difference is between A&E and "The Club" branded soaps. A&E is their retail line, while "The Club" soaps are only sold to Shaving Shop Club members.

Good shave! Prayers sent!

Thanks Chris!

Caught up, Josh. Nice mail calls! And I'll light a candle at church tomorrow for your daughter.

Long Rifle Hawkeye | John William Ragg Napoleon 6/8” near wedge
Currently on Shave #529 | Straight shave #326

With things not really slowing down back home, a late night meant a tough time getting up this morning. Thankfully, people at work are pretty flexible, so a little late isn’t a big deal as long as it’s not consistent. Even so, I almost managed to get into work on time. It’s an even day, so for June, that meant Long Rifle Hawkeye was the soap of choice today. I paired the Rudy Vey Butterscotch “Chubby” TGN 2-band with it along with the Ragg Napoleon.

Now, this razor was one I had earmarked for a refresh, but didn’t get to it last night. Didn’t stop me, I went with what I had for an edge, knowing it will still shave. A quick lather worked up with the RV brush, nice and shiny, a little work on the face, and three quick passes resulted in a nice DFS. I was expecting quite a bit of feedback from the alum, but experienced NONE. The aftershave tried getting a little vocal, but really, nothing of note. Topped off with the Omega Aquae Serum and some WSP Matterhorn EdP on top and I’m ready to start the day. It’s been about an hour since I finished the shave and I’m solidly in the DFS realm. I will say, in regards to the Omega serum that my skin does not feel quite as moisturized as with the Paladin balm or the A&E post-shave serum, but far from dehydrated…it’s better than the rest of the balms/salves that I own. Just not quite as good as the other two, for my skin.

Thanks for reading and have a great day everyone!

I have yet to fall into the realm of serums and balms. I don't ever use balms unless it's a really bad day for me and the skin is flaky dry...which is rare. I do have a few balms...but never get used. My big complaint about them is that the make me sweat. Seriously...I but some balm on and I feel like my skin is suffocating. It's just not a pleasant experience. I will say though...since my weight loss I sweat so much less. So I may give it try again...who knows. Now the different "serums" that are coming out...I am interested in them. I wonder what the differences in them and the balms are?

Great read today Josh. Glad you are able to be a little flexible in a place that typically isn't.

The balms and salves are more of a cream whereas the serums are a liquid that absorbs into the skin rather quickly. The Omega serum is clear, a little thinner than glycerin, while the A&E serum is a cream colored, and about the same consistency. They aren't nearly as heavy as a balm or salve, so if those are too heavy for you, these might be a good solution for you on those days where your skin is a little more dry.

Need your help, everyone! I have 9 different soaps on hand that have yet to be used and reviewed. I need suggestions or requests on what video and written review is going to be next. Here's what there is to choose from:

Wild West Shaving Company: Private Reserve No. 2, Aces & Eights, Rose Dunn
Barrister & Mann: Patches
Noble Otter: The Noir et Vanille, The Trail, Barrbarr
Oleo Soapworks: Sandy Cheeks
Ariana & Evans: NYC

Thanks for the explanation...now I need to try some serums!

My vote is for a Noble Otter soap. I am very intrigued by the scent descriptions of the Noir et Vanille and the Trail. I actually scored a new tub of BarrBarr at a ridiculously good price and is inbound.

Though with that group of soaps...I'm not sure you can really go wrong!

Thanks for posting this as I feel the same way but Josh's posts have had me curious bout the serums. Josh, Thanks for the explanation and maybe I will give a serum or two a try. Nice shave today too Josh !!

No problem Dave. If you're worried about it being too heavy, I would go with the Omega, as that seems to be a tad bit more light, but not quite as moisturizing as the A&E. That's not saying the A&E is heavy, but it's not quite as light as the Omega.

Great shave Josh. Hope you get some rest after work today!

Tough choice on the next soap. I’m thinking you’ll like NYC next given your fougere preferences.
