Great shave and nice Mail Call! Declaration's Barbershop scent sounds fantastic.

That's pretty solid for $25 and it looks like the mail calls have been rock solid as well. Gotta let us know how you like the new scent from Stirling!

$25 for 8 hours... not bad.

Thanks Tom. IRT the performance of the EdT...I wore it again today, applying at around 0900 and can still smell it on my skin as of 2200...13 hours! I will say that projection is pretty light, however, so you won't get great sillage with it. But for 25$, this is an absolute STEAL.

Great mail calls, Josh! And I totally dig the Bandwagon soap as well - love it! I "need" to try it in the a/s.....And coincidentally I've got a sample of the Stirling Satsuma en route to me - sounds like a good one. I tried that Pearberry before - that one wasn't in my wheel house - I'm glad that Stirling has such good samples - the best, actually!

Thanks Chris! The Satsuma is nice...very mandarin orange opening, with some hints of spice in the background. I would equate it to Terre D'Hermes, but change the very dark orange to a very, VERY bright orange, without being cloyingly sweet. The menthol in the Bandwagon is well balanced, like the scent of the soap. Not overpowering, but enough to let you know it's there.

Thanks Eric! The Bandwagon scent is nice...not quite as "clean" smelling as Fine AB or WSP Barbershop, but brighter than GTB, sweet but nothing like Stirling or MW's Barbershop takes...I would put it as a great balance of all three of those offerings.

Stirling Satsuma | William Ragg Napoleon 6/8”
Currently on Shave #487 | Straight shave #294

After the mail call on Tuesday, there was really only going to be one soap that was used today, Stirling’s Satsuma. As I described the other day, this scent is a bright mandarin orange with some spice in the background. It’s not overly sweet, not gourmand, but just a nicely balanced orange citrus. I compared it to Terre D’Hermes the other day and I’m going to have to take that back, as Terre D’Hermes has a much darker backside, very earthy. This doesn’t have that characteristic, but it does have the spice behind that bright orange citrus. I was trying throughout the shave to figure out what the scent reminded me of…but I’m still drawing a blank. It does remind me of something, however. Maybe someone else would have an easier time figuring it out. Needless to say, the scent is my second favorite offering that I’ve tried from Stirling behind Piacenza.

The shave with the Ragg was about as normal as it can get, though there was a bit of feedback from the alum and aftershave. I did a bit of clean-up all over today with the ‘jectah, so I can attribute it to that and I think this razor needs to be touched-up a little. I got this aftershave with glacial strength menthol added, so was expecting a nice blast of cool upon application. I got it, but not until after about 30 seconds or so of waiting for it. Topped off with the Clinique Happy for Men, and it’s a good start to the day. About 3 hours after the shave, I’m sitting at a BBS still and the irritation that was there immediately after the shave is a distant memory.

Mail call today brought in my brass Colonial General. After reading about how much people who own a General love it, I made it a mission to find one. I was lucky enough to find this for sale, as they are currently not producing this anymore, though may again in the future. There is a little bit of tarnish/patina on this, which if I choose to can be easily worked out with some Maas or Brasso. Not sure if I’m going to as of yet. The weight on this is impressive…definitely not going to need to use any additional pressure outside of weight of the razor to shave with this beast!!

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry I have gotten so far behind here Josh. Happy belated anniversary, and I am glad your accountant found you relief on the tax situation. He earned his fee on this one for sure. You have received some stunning mail calls. There are so many soap makers around now that I had never heard of, I am not even going to try to catch up with examples in my den. I have not used a commercial soap (and I have plenty in my den) in well over six months except for the Arko stick that I have in my travel kit. Eventually my goal is to make the finest soap of any in my den, then I will be a happy man for the rest of my life. Of course if I accomplish this, I will have to have a pretty significant soap PIF.

Very nice on the General score. And I'm looking forward to using the Stirling Satsuma - sounds like a good one.

Thanks so much for the comment Walt! Loved reading about your adventures in soap making and look forward to seeing how future experiments come out!!

Thanks Chris! I think you'll like the Satsuma...it's hard to describe, but it's very heavy in the citrus vein but not quite the biting citrus like a AdP or AdG since it's orange and not bergamot. It's got a bit more sweetness to it than those, but not cloying or heavy at all...very bright. Whereas Colonia's are pretty biting in their citrus, this is more...I don't know...rounded, smooth?

Great stuff to catch up on, Josh! Hopefully the General treats you well.

Thanks Jim! I'm going to be holding off on using it until I hit my milestone shave, then might do a week or two with it, trying new blades out.

Great read, shave, picture, and mail call Josh!

Thank you Craig!

Well...no shave today, but I did get an envelope in the mail yesterday from TJ. He was generous enough to pass along some different AC style blades to try out when I break the General out of the stable to play. I'm really looking forward to seeing how each blade stacks up against one another. Thanks TJ!

Not expecting any mail today, so tomorrow is going to be one of the other Stirling Soaps that I got in the mail (samples). I haven't decided which one to use yet. Have a great day everyone!

So TJ's envelope came in yesterday apparently...then they brought today's mail later on, and another package. This was originally the scent that I was shooting for when I started looking at Ariana & Evans, so I was excited when opening the box.

So, on initial sniff, I thought this was very much like Grecian Horse. When I got back to the room and compared them, they are really not anything alike, though both in the spice / Asian realm of the scent wheel. This is much more on the sweeter side of the house, as the plum really comes through in the top notes. Not sure how it's going to evolve as a scent, but all the same, I'm looking forward to the experience! Normally, with tomorrow being a shave day, this would automatically be installed as tomorrow's shave. BUT...I have something else coming in that I want to use with this soap, so it's going to have to wait.

Have a great Friday everyone!! (can you believe we're already in the last 1/3rd of April?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)

I was looking at that one, sounded like it might be a bit too sweet. Interested in your review.

First impressions are that it is on the sweeter side of the house (which I don't mind as long as it's not into the gourmand side of the house), but that might just be the initial hit of scent. I'll be sure to give a pretty in depth review when I get around to using it!

Shave #488 | Straight shave #295

Only a quick entry today as I'm having issues with the work computer.

Stirling Tuscany got the call today. Nothing too outrageous to report other than i forgot to strop pre-shave...and there was an inadvertent flip of the Eiko on the strop during post shave stropping leading to a very shallow slice. Too easy to fix. Tuscany is just like you would imagine...a little green, a little citrus ..it definitely feels like a stroll outside in an Italian countryside. The Stirling boar only she'd once today, and that was just a broken hair. It still has a little ways to go before it's fully broken in. Three passes left me BBS wit a bit of sting only on the neck from over shaving trying to chase.

Mail brought in some more artisan soaps from two of my favorite vendors...Declaration and Wholly Kaw. I'll go into more detail later on when the computer is fixed.
