The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Finally getting caught up. Happy you got some good news on the Tax front, i know the feeling. I typically pay well but a couple years ago i found a way to get some of my money back from previous years. I filed the amendment and got some back but i still feel like there is a hammer going to drop...we shouldn't fear the IRS as much as we do.

I never got the Santa Paula from CFG, i smelled it in the store and thought it was nice but since i have the Fine Orange Dirt and another like it i didnt feel the need. What i was very surprised by was the Bay Rhum he made recently, it is an appealing version i can see owning some time.

Getting caught up. Nice mail call and shave yesterday. The Fine EDTs I am eyeballing and will probably pick up the Platinum eventually, but I am trying to see what Stirling does on the EDT front so I am holding off. I have a feeling his prices will be more favorable.

The only reason I didn't spring for the Platinum is because SWMBO does NOT like Creed Aventus at all...she's weird. So even for the paltry price of $25, it's not worth it. LOL

I am confident Rod and Mandy will keep the price point eye wateringly low as well...I'm looking forward to their deodorants as well.

Thanks Chris! Honestly, I probably would have passed on this soap as well had I smelled it in the store. But, I would have missed out on the wonderful aftershave, which really is a great scent. (much more of an orange note to it, for sure)

Nice mail call Josh I am going to start carrying the EdT at the shop maybe. Have note decided yet

Declaration Grooming Bandwagon | C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31
Currently on Shave #486 | Straight shave #293

Back to the normal grind, thankfully. To top it all off, it’s a shave day and I get to try out some more new gear! The last soap (for the time being) that I have yet to try is Declaration Grooming’s Bandwagon, their take on the barbershop theme. I have to say, this is right up there with my other barbershop favorites in WSP and Fine American Blend. Speaking of AB, that was the EdT used today…but I digress. This is about the shave!

I’m consistently amazed when I use DG soaps. I load for 10 seconds and end up, after a bit of work and a lot of water, with a metric ton of beautiful lather. I can understand why people might not like these soaps, as getting the ideal lather can take a little time. But if nothing else, I know I can be patient, and the pay-off is so good with these soaps. Ending prematurely will give you a thick, goopey mess. I wouldn’t want to shave with that either. I again went with the Razorock 400, pairing it with the C.V. Heljestrand Mk*31, after a brief trip to the stone spa. Snick, snack, swish…three passes later I cleaned up with the ‘jectah. I was still feeling something that seemed like stubble, but wasn’t feeling like pushing any irritation after Sunday’s shave. Very little feedback from the alum and aftershave was a welcome relief. The aftershave does contain menthol, which I know most DG aftershaves do…but it surprised me this morning, again. The EdT went on after and was a wonderful cap to a great shave. I’m sitting here in a cloud of barbershop wonderment. After checking the shave, I’m BBS on a light once over, but DFS+ if I use a little pressure when feeling around. Not the best shave, as results go, but the combination of everything makes it very nice.

Have a great day everyone!

MAIL CALL!! Stirling has arrived...

Stirling Satsuma - shave soap, glacial aftershave, body soap, shampoo bar
Stirling Pearberry - shave soap sample
Stirling Tuscany - shave soap sample
Stirling Piacenza - body soap
Stirling Port-o-Prince - body soap sample

The Satsuma smells amazing...very mandarin orange, but you can pick up some spice in the background. Very pleased with that purchase. The Pearberry smells amazing...though it might be a bit gourmand for a full tub purchase. it's just like a berry fruit salad...scrumptious! Tuscany smells just like you would expect it to...like roaming through the hills of tuscany. Looking forward to the next shave!!!

Curious about the longevity on the Fine EDT. I already get pretty good projection and longevity with the AS.

Nice shave also.

Great read, picture, and shave Josh!

Nice Mail Call too!

Thanks guys! So I applied the EdT today at about 1300L and am now sitting here at 2230 it's not even a skin scent. Now, with that being said, it transitioned pretty quickly from giving off medium / light projection to skin scent to nothing. So I could still smell it surrounding me as of 2100. For $25, 8 hours of longevity is pretty darned good.

That's pretty solid for $25 and it looks like the mail calls have been rock solid as well. Gotta let us know how you like the new scent from Stirling!

Great mail calls, Josh! And I totally dig the Bandwagon soap as well - love it! I "need" to try it in the a/s.....And coincidentally I've got a sample of the Stirling Satsuma en route to me - sounds like a good one. I tried that Pearberry before - that one wasn't in my wheel house - I'm glad that Stirling has such good samples - the best, actually!
