The wonderful excesses of acquisition disorders...and wet shaving

Great read Josh. That is an interesting scent combination. I can't seem to wrap my mind around the citrus and leather combo.

The best way I can describe it is if you're sitting in a room full of leather bound chairs, with leather bound books, having a nice bourbon and orange bitters on the rocks. It's not a real bright citrus...more dark and sweet.

Wow, that’s some description

Catching up, Josh. Congrats on the Anniversary, even though you’re downrange. And fantastic news about the taxes!

That scent does sound interesting for sure. Good shave Josh. Let me know when you get the card I sent.

Will do TJ, thanks!

OK, I am picturing it. Sounds intoxicating.

What's nice is it has the smell of the bourbon without the alcohol smell...quite interesting actually.

Thanks Dave...I didn't get all the leather notes until after I had lathered it up and let it develop from a fragrance perspective.

Chiseled Face Groomatorium | Pumacker Black Diamond 9/16”
Currently on Shave #485 | Straight shave #292

Very early day today, but I was still able to get my normal, every other day, shave in. Today brought Chiseled Face Groomatorium’s Santa Paula, being paired with a razor that I had in “the box”, the Pumacker Black Diamond. I think I only had one or two shaves on this razor and ended up pulling it from rotation as I wasn’t able to get the edge where I wanted it. I took it to the stones the other night for a tenjiyou through water/glycerin progression, and while it’s not quite there, it’s a lot closer than I remember it being. I would give the edge a B-. It’s sharp, but a little on the harsh side. The scales are a little too long for the blade, so handling isn’t quite where it should be either, so care needs to be taken to ensure no extra pressure is used to compensate for the poor balance.

Santa Paula, the soap, is a good scent, but not one of my favorite. People were dead on in describing it as an orange tree…though off of the tub, there is so little orange coming off of it, I could really see any kind of tree. Typical CFG performance, however. 3 passes, BBS and a bit of irritation from the lack of familiarization with the razor. Now, the aftershave is WONDERFUL. Much more of an orange scent to it, so much so that it matched up perfectly with the Clinique Happy for Men EdT topper. Thankfully, I’m not shaving tomorrow, so it will give my neck a bit of time to cool off. I was wearing some gear today, which kept rubbing on that irritated spot under my chin, so I might hold of an additional day before I shave again…pending mail calls of course! I hope everyone’s weekend is going well…

Have a great day everyone!

Josh, I like the Santa Paula a/s better than the soap. As a matter of fact, I totally dig that a/s!

nice read and photo Josh, sorry about the irritation

Thanks Dave...the irritation was not too bad during the shave, however, the vest just exacerbated it.

Great picture and read Josh! Bummer about the irritation!

Thanks Craig!

With the exception of the irritation, great shave.

Thank you Don!

I wasn’t super crazy about the Santa Paula scent but the performance is not something you can argue at all.

Thanks TJ! I'm not too big on the soap scent, but the aftershave was wonderful!!

Mail call today!

Got a few packages in today...all I'm pretty excited to get.

Aside from some labeling tape, here's what came in...

Fine American Blend EdT
Amouage Sunshine Man 15ml Sample EdP
Chatillon Lux Fourth and Pine Post-shave Salve
Chatillon Lux Pure Lavender Post-shave Salve
Feather Pro-Guard A/C blades

Impressions on the software are extremely favorable! Fine American Blend is a known quantity, so having it in EdT form is a coup, for sure.

The post shave salves I got to match the inbound soaps from DG...and as Chris H would say, I totally dig'em!!! The Pure Lavender is just that...a great lavender scent, and one that I'll have to eventually get the EdT/EdP version of. Fourth and Pine is also a great scent, a floral pine scent. If the soaps smell anything close to these, I can see them jumping up to the top of the charts very easily.

I'm looking forward to trying out the Pro-Guard blades when the General comes in and comparing them to the professionals, and some others that are being sent by TJ!

The absolute highlight of the mail is the sample of Amouage's Sunshine Man, however. This is absolutely a phenomenally good scent that I just couldn't wait to save up for a full bottle. This is a 15ml sample, so it should last for quite a while as long as I don't overspray (a mistake with a powerhouse fragrance like this). I'll get into the scent notes on this when I get a chance.

Getting caught up. Nice mail call and shave yesterday. The Fine EDTs I am eyeballing and will probably pick up the Platinum eventually, but I am trying to see what Stirling does on the EDT front so I am holding off. I have a feeling his prices will be more favorable.
