Aftershave: The Holy Black Lavender Creeper
This shave actually happened on Wednesday night, but yesterday was so busy that I couldn’t post it right away. I was excited to finally see what all the hype was about with the Lavender Creeper, and I can tell you I was NOT disappointed.
As Dave described in his journal, the lavender scent is something special. They used three different lavender essential oils, one of which they distilled in house. I love a good lavender, and this is the best I have smelled. It is definitely a manly lavender, while still being floral enough for the ladies. The coolada cooling agent (that’s what it is called in the ingredients), takes coldness to a new level. I did a lather, hot towel soak, and a cold water shave, and my face was amazingly cool! Best of all, there was no overpowering menthol scent (which I can enjoy sometimes, but it often clashes with other notes), and no burning eyes!
The shave itself was what I have come to expect with this razor, and the soap performs excellently. It is tallow based, where most of their offerings have been vegan. I could feel some more pronounced slickness, and it also made the post-save feel of the soap more nourishing. It is soft in the tub, and my scoop-smear could have been pressed a little better into my bowl, as I ended up moving a few globs of soap around without breaking them down. No worries, as I will keep that in mind next time. I used about a teaspoon of water to get the lather right where I wanted it.
The aftershave continues the goodness, and the cooling sensation lasts for over 30 minutes. This is truly awesome stuff, and well worth staying up until midnight to snag.
On the hair care front, I had been using an unorthodox water based pomade created by one of my barbers. It is more creamy in the jar than waxy, and it has just enough petro in it to keep my hair soft and pliable throughout the day. It’s my perfect day-to-day pomade, when I don’t always want to slick things all the way back and lock it down. Unfortunately, he made a super small batch, and now my jar has run out. While searching for a suitable replacement I came across Black Ship Water Based by Flagship Pomades. By description it was just what I was looking for, and it arrived in time to use it today. The scent is described as Dark’n’Stormy, and it replicates the scent of black rum and ginger beer perfectly. It scoops out nice and creamy, and gave me just the right amount of hold for my sideswipe hairstyle. Several hours in and it is still soft without falling out of shape. I like this so much better than regular water based, which tends to get very hard like styling gel.
We are prepping for a fun weekend with my sons, which could include a trip to see Infinity Wars, as well as some kite flying. Fingers crossed they weather holds up!
Today’s song is the best one I could think of for a Creeper shave:
