The Heysi Missive

Since we got the cats, we haven’t had a single bear or antelope in the house! And in their role as safety cats they have effectively kept old man Murphy ( of Murphy’s Las fame) from getting me to maim myself whilst shaving.

What a week it's been. As I type this I'm sitting in a brand new office chair........the first new office chair I've ever had. Been working in the drafting/engineering field since 1989 and always had to use whatever chair was laying around. But they decided we all needed new chairs....so now I'm super comfortable, I have the ability to move in any direction and I have back support. Also....they changed our health insurance......to something much better than before.....plus the price went down!!! It's like a real company up in here all of a sudden (now if I can get a raise!)

The kitten adventures continue. Keeley is slowing becoming accepted by the two older cats. She only gets a smack when she gets too close, too fast. But the other day we caught her playing with both of them....cautiously at first and then a bit more like she normally plays....and then everyone hissed and ran in different directions. Not completely relaxed around each other but getting there quicker than we expected.

Today we get our new dishwasher installed. The old one is going buh-bye and I can stop doing everything by hand. The one appliance that needed to be replaced was the dishwasher and now that it's going in...we can start drawing up plans to remodel the kitchen. I know that sounds backwards but we're really trying to get a feel for how we want the house to look when everything is done....so we're assessing as we go and not rushing into something that we'll hate later.

Finalized the plans for a quick memorial back in my hometown of Redondo Beach for my best friend that died recently. I'll be meeting up with some friends I haven't seen since not long after we graduated from high school. Should be fun to see them all again. I'm determined to not let it become a solemn event....I want it to be more laughs than tears.

Tonight we're going to our first Aviators game of the year. As some of you know, I love baseball and our minor league team here in town is really fun to watch. Plus my Mom won some free tickets in a suite ....so I'll be chilling in the good seats. I may have to buy myself an A's hat tonight (seems like the move from Oakland is all but certain....but I will always remain Dodger Blue).

And of course......The Vegas Golden Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals!!!!! Seems so strange that this team has only been around for 6 years. But the owner told us all on day one that winning was going to be THE MOST important quality of this team. Seems like he's holding up his end of the bargain......of course there still hasn't been a game at the home ice that hasn't been a sell out...so the fans are keeping up their end as well.

Add in the fact that I completed the Williams 100 shave challenge and it's been quite a week. Which brings me to............

Shave Journal:

Still using the Willaims puck (yes I know some of you are very confused and probably irate) but I'm really liking this new technique and it really saves time each morning so I'm keeping the Williams going until the weekend. I'll start using all the other soaps then. Here's a couple of pictures of the new shave den....

I know it's not much (and not everything is out yet)....but it's a start. I'll be adding more as I add shelves and cabinets. And eventually we'll remodel the master bathroom and the guest bath will become the full time shave den.

See ya Later!

Well, well, well…look who’s moving up in the world! You’ll be exempt status before you know it!

Please tell me they wear poofy knee-length pants and have old skool goggles on their hat!
That would be spectaular....but nope. This is what they wear....

After your nap, @CVargo would like a full report on the chair with pictures and a butt happiness rating.
I'm not sure if my butt and Chad's butt require the same level of comfort......his being mostly covered with bigfoot fur.

Go VGK!

Well.....game one of the Stanley Cup Finals was quite a fun evening. Originally planned to go to the plaza out in front of the arena and watch the game at a brewpub but right before we headed down there, we heard that the team was putting on a free concert out front and that a huge crowd was building in front of the arena....so we scrapped those plans and headed for our local pub. Much more enjoyable....plus it was 96 degrees on the plaza and beers are $14. At my local pub it was 72 degrees inside, happy hour was going on and beers are $4.50!! You can guess where I'll be watching the rest of the games. During the game...I was being inundated with messages by the concierges and the owners who felt they needed to distract me from the game with their shenanigans......it didn't work. I stayed focused on the game and responded to their silliness during intermissions......strangely enough, after the Golden Knights won....they didn't feel like chatting anymore. Well, it's good to know your friends have nothing better to do on a saturday night than needle you. But hey....they were there with me in spirit.....if not in chat.

Shave Journal:

Used a new Gillette Silver Blue blade over the weekend and discovered that its very sharp fresh out of the pack. Haven't nicked myself in some time and that's no fun. The alum block did the trick. Also tried the Barbasol shave cream I bought a few months ago. Didn't get much of a lather in 6% humidity (it's a dry heat!) but I liked the scent. Reminded me of a barbershop my grandfather used to take me and my cousins to to get our hair cut when we would spend the summers at my grandparent's house. He always thought our hair looked too long (it was the late 1970's) so he would take us all down and get us "proper" haircuts.

This morning I used the Spider Williams method on a Stirling sample and it worked perfect. I now own several brushes I haven't had a chance to use in nearly 4 months.

See ya Later!

You hear that guys?? Our attempt at bonding is being defined as a distraction and shenanigans. Well, I never!
You'll note that I did refer to you as my friends. That's a positive. Plus you know how I love silliness. And you're all about the silliness.

Now that’s a bargain! Glad it was a good time!

These shaves in the other hand…😵

Wow!!! What a weekend!!

Between Thursday and Sunday, my wife and I saw every high school friend (except for one....and we stayed at her house). I was quite a time we had. Started off with a visit from my wife's oldest friend and her husband (he was celebrating his birthday in Vegas) then we drove to LA to another friend's house (she was out of town at a wedding) and we went to dinner with her husband. Saturday morning we met two more of my wife's friends for brunch and one of them brought me the barstool I had her pick up for me from a very old, very famous restaurant in Los Angeles called Philippe's. One of the traditions before going to a Dodgers game is to stop at Philippe's and get a beef dip sandwich before heading up the hill to the game. They're replacing all their old barstools........so I now own a piece of personal history. And it only cost me $5. Later on Saturday, I met up with a dozen of my friends from high school to memorialize our friend that died recently. As I had hoped...it wasn't a sad affair at all...instead it was filled with lots of laughs and lots of joy. I now have contact info on everyone and we plan on getting together much more often. Even my wife, who barely knows any of these people, had a great time and looks forward to seeing a bunch of them again. The bar we were at put the Golden Knights game on for me and they won!!! Only one more win and they can lift the Cup. And finally.....on our way out of town, we met up with some non-high school friends and had lunch and watched the Angel game with them (they also won!!). So......a very fun, exciting, rewarding weekend.

Shave Journal:

Ahhhh...Monday.....why are you so uncool? Finally getting used to a new blade. After using the last blade for 107 shaves....the new blade is like the sharpest thing I've ever experienced....or at least that's what my mind keeps telling me. Still.....its settling down now after a week of nicks and weepers. In fact...this morning we had no weepers at all. So normalcy has returned.

I received my first 2 pucks of MWF over the weekend and was very happy....until I opened up the box and the seller sent me the new formula when the picture on their website clearly shows the Tallow formula. My email to them has, so far, gone unanswered. I'm hoping I can find a better seller that won't do the same bait and switch on me.

See ya Later!
