The Heysi Missive

This month is going to be cRazY!!!

First up is a belated birthday dinner for my mom. She turned 76 the other day and my brother and his kids took her to a mexican dinner somewhere in town. Considering they've failed in the Mom-birthday contest the past three years...I'm confident that she had a mediocre time. We'll be taking her to this great sports bar that makes the best chicken wings in vegas. And since we'll be there during the Dodgers game....winner, winner...chicken wing dinner!

Then my daughter and son-in-law come into town. It will be the first time we've seen them in a year (which isn't as bad since she video calls us about once a week). They'll be running back and forth between vegas and san diego (which gives me a chance to have her bring me beer from down there) for a wedding and a class reunion.

Then later this month we go on our cruise. So looking forward to just relaxing and not being at work....or in this heat. Gonna sip a few mai tias and just unwind.

Todays shave journal:

Nothing has changed in the shave gear department.....same great shave every morning....but today...I used the cologne I recently bought. Tommy Bahama's Very Cool.

I really liked the sample I had but the fragrance out of the full sized bottle is slightly different. The sample is more aquatic and the full size is more of a wood scent. **Edit....I'm now getting a patchouli scent that isn't in the sample at all. Weird. ** Its not a note I picked up from the sample at all. I was hoping to wear it on the cruise but this isn't the scent I was looking for. Might have to rethink my cologne for the cruise.

See Ya Later!

While cleaning out one of the last boxes from the old house in Santa Monica, I found these...

...these would be the razors my wife's grandfather owned. They all three need some love and the Aristocrat needs some replating but my vintage collection just got a bit bigger.

The long handled one looks as though it could be a woman's razor. Cool little travel razor, too!

Yep. 1962 Lady Gillette. The travel razor is a 1970. But the prize here is the Aristocrat. I'm going to see about getting it replated with nickel and then adding it to my daily drivers.

I have a gold 1946-7 Aristocrat that I love. Had it replated by Sports Shave Shop, or something like that, out of Baton Rouge years ago. Back Roads Gold might be the place to go these days.

Managed to get a haircut yesterday......not the regular haircut I'm used to but the $18-I'm-lucky-I-escaped-with-my-ears-intact variety. Even had to schedule an appointment which was useless because she said she was running "about 30 minutes behind".....turns out she was 90 minutes behind!!! Waited and had to listen to some 8 year old ask her to shave every Marvel character logo into his head while the child's mother listened to videos on her phone at the loudest volume setting and ignored her demon child. I'm definitely looking for a new Barber once I get back from vacation.

At work, the rumors of a "surprise" for the employees finally came true. We were told that on-time deliveries were at an all-time high (with less staff) and that the ownership was considering bonuses.........well, on friday, every employee is getting.....pizza for lunch (whomp, whomp). I guess the bonuses were a step too far for the family that owns the company......since the owners wife just bought herself a new classic car. Its fun to watch my bonus drive off each day with a engine destroying over-rev and wheel spinout.

Daughter and son-in-law are coming in to town late tonight and the wife is fretting. She's not much of a fan of airplanes so the whole day will be spent worrying. At least she's not rechecking the packing and to-do lists for the cruise......she over-prepares in some ways.... but we never end up missing anything when we're on vacation.

On the shaving front:

Woke up late this morning and missed my allotted time for shaving.....a first in over 7 months. But I do still have my old employee badge here at my desk that shows me with a goatee so.....I'm looking much more shaved than back during those dark days.

Waiting on the arrival of a new-to-me cologne......Acqua di Gio. I came across a tube of the body wash that someone bought me a while ago and had never opened because I wasn't into smelling nice but now that I have...I really like the scent and the wife said it smelled really good so.....a sample of the EDT is on the way. I'll see how the sample works out before I go with a larger size.

See ya Later!

The ol management/owner-underling tensions are alive and well! I feel your pain. Was it a good pizza at least?

Amusing entry sir. I'm glad you're seeing the positives in your bonus being put to good use. If they actually gave it to you, you would have wasted it on boring practical things.

Yes...how dare I use it to enjoy more of western Mexico. Or buy a new Aloha shirt.

Totally draggin' today. My daughter and son-in-law are in town and they wanted to go out on the town yesterday. Went to Big Dog's Brewing for dinner and after the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, we ended up at Crown & Anchor pub for a toast to the former Queen and another toast to the new King Charles III. My family may have stood in rebellion to the Crown back in 1776 but that's all water under the various bridges that cross the Thames now. So with only 3 hours of sleep....I'm here and I'm bright eyed.

Shave Journal:

Starting to feel like the $1.50 I spent on an alum block was wasted after the second week of owning it. I rarely ever get a tingle out of using that thing. I will say that once I was aware that the tingle was because I was being too rough with my face and learned to go easier....my shaves have improved. It would seem that the help that is offered around here is of a top notch quality.

Finally received my sample of Acqua di Gio EDT and let me tell ya........It's spectacular. I smell like a million bucks. This whole "take a few extra minutes in the morning to make yourself presentable" ain't too bad.

See ya Later!
