Desk Tour #3

I'm a huge Star Wars fan...I was 8 when the first film came out (Lucas's target audience, according to him) and I saw it at Grumman's Chinese Theater on opening weekend in 1977. So of course I have an R2-D2 on my desk. I also have an R5 droid.

I worked for a company in Los Angeles that remodeled grocery stores and I drew the interior decor and signage for every Ralphs store there is. When the Ralphs company people came through our office when we were nearly finished with all the stores, they gave me a Ralphs grocery basket as a thank you. It was a nice gesture....a bit of a cheap one...but nice.

The drafting dude was a gift from my wife when we were first dating that she bought at an arts and crafts show in Santa Ynez. It's a version of me sitting at a drafting table....but my head is a nut.

Another gift from my wife is the rose quartz. My birthday is in october and one of the birthstones for october is rose quartz.

The Pokemon ball is another reference to my daughter. She grew up when Pokemon was first on tv and she loved the show and the characters. We used to watch all of the episode together.

The Vegas Golden Knights are our NHL team here in Vegas and I've been a fan since the first game. This particular figure is also my favorite player, William Karlsson.

And of course.....I have to have the TSC site open during the day. Need to check for Bingo numbers and laugh at the silliness of the best group of people on the planet.

Also in this photo:

A See's candy tin. I usually refill it during the holiday months. If you don't have See's candy where you live.....move.
A post it note with hearts drawn on it. The wife works at the same company I do (she's in Customer Service...I'm in Engineering) and after her first week....this was what she left on my screen....so it stays.

Ralph’s proves that Grocery Stores rock. Being from the east coast I didn’t realize it - then I got stationed out in CA - walked in - there was a coffee bar, a band playing hipster music (before it was cool), and you could buy beer, wine, and liquor. I wanted to move in.

So....I tried something new this morning. I used a new razor blade. I have a few individual blades that I received in a PIF some time ago (I'm talking years here people). And this morning I figured....why not?

So I used a Persona blade. It wasn't bad. The shave was smooth and easy. I even had a day of growth from skipping a shave on sunday. I was running all over the house doing lots of chores and checking on the Dodgers game (they won!) but even with a bit of a hobo shave, the Persona blade did well. I'll have to throw this blade on a rotation to see how it stands up against my regulars (GSB and Wilkinson Sword). I have about 12-15 other blades so I will be featuring additional blade reviews.

The booze laws in Pennsylvania are antiquated, that's for sure. A brother from Boston once asked me if it was illegal to drink in this state. Every governor who has tried to get rid of the PA Liquor Control Board (their actual name), or even modernize it, and the union that runs the State Stores (again, the actual name), has met with stiff resistance. Luckily, I don't drink.

When i lived in the town along from where i do now in Texas, they had restrictive licensing laws and no beers on Sunday, which was all well and good except at the time i was doing shift-work - so the morning is my evening if you see what i mean. My wife and i had an event to attend in Oklahoma and no problems. The store owner, when i mentioned the Texas law where i lived, said - 'this ain't Texas.'

Desk Tour #4: The Final Chapter

desk4.jpg

As noted by Captain Impatient, AKA @NurseDave .....I have two Back To The Future time machines on my desk. The Welly (the bigger, more detailed model) is the gold standard in BTTF collectables. So detailed and so accurate. I'm planning on getting the other 3 models from the collection.....but the Part I car is my favorite.

The PIXAR films are some of the best, most heartfelt, emotional films being made today....and Ratatouille is my favorite of them all (so far). My daughter tries to keep me stocked with stuff from that film but there's not that much available.

D-O from Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker was such a neat take on a droid. He's actually a bit afraid of human contact at first and eventually warms up to Rey.....it gives the character more humanity....and its a piece of machinery. This particular figure was put together by me from a metal kit. Lots of fun and occasionally frustrating.

Also in this picture:

Some cactus to grow at my desk....when its not 103 degrees. I'll start this over the late winter or early spring.
A 3-D printed Ring of Power from The Lord Of The Rings. Another early printed toy to test how the printer worked.
A rubber duck that I picked up one night at Able Baker Brewing. They have a duck in their logo and you get a rubber duck when you order a flight of beer.
A collection of tools for installing contacts. I sometimes need to see a completed connector in order to draw it correctly.
Miscellaneous office supplies. Who doesn't use post-its and highlighters?

That concludes the majority of my desk. I do have some stuff scattered about on the rest of the desk but nothing as fun as what I've shown you. I may do a sequel if there's enough material and if the audience is there for it.

I tried one of those! My favorite droid is K2-SO from Rogue One. It was the opposite for me…lots of frustration and occasionally fun 😂 I lost interest.
I'm currently building a model of the Lunar Lander from Apollo 11. Not as easy as the D-O model. Much smaller, more intricate pieces. Frustration set in about a month ago and I haven't touched it since. Its now staring at me in disdain from the edge of my desk. I may pick it back up at lunch today. You should set aside a few minutes each day to work on yours. That's how I got through the D-O model.....just a few minutes each day at lunch.
