The Heysi Missive

Ah, he wasn't pointed to specifically in the pic, and I overlooked that. Thanks.
Its all good. There was only so much space to write on the photos. That's why I added the unlabeled parts at the bottom.

Sitting here watching the Dodgers game and they just announced that Vin Scully has passed away. For nearly 50 years I had the honor of learning the beautiful game of baseball from the greatest teacher the world could imagine. He didn't just call the balls and strikes, he didn't just tell you the score, he colored the descriptions of every moment. The twitches and nervous motions of the batter waiting on the pitch. The way the pitcher looked in and shook off each pitch as the game got more tense and exciting. Sometimes Vinny would relate a story about how the player at the plate was excited to meet such and such player when he was so many years old and how that meeting brought that player to this moment. Sometimes vin would tell us about how someone in the crowd was enjoying the littlest of things, like a box of popcorn or a plate of nachos. He didn't just tell us what was happening....he made it a vibrant, living moment that you could see, smell and feel. It didn't matter if you were watching the game on tv or if you were listening on the radio, Vinny brought the ballpark to life. His voice echoes across games, even to this day. Sometimes, during a game, I can hear Vinny describing a lazy pop fly in the most beautiful way that he always seemed to be able to do. His catch phrases are legendary. And they stick with me to this day. Rest in peace, Vinny...deuces are wild.

Once again, the Dodgers swept the hated Giants this past week but those victories came with a heavy heart as our dear Vin Scully passed away during the series. There's scheduled to be a tribute tonight to Vinny before the first game of the weekend series against the Padres. I'm honoring Vinny today with my Vinny shirt. He truly was the one that taught me all there is to know about the game of baseball. He was the best.

Today's shave journal:

Finally finished off my puck of Williams and what a ride it was. Over 3 months of shaves. Easily 90+ days of smooth, creamy goodness. So for the first time in 3 months....I'm using a new soap. Pulled out the finger guns and grabbed the bamboo bowl of CBL Hombres that I received after the lather contest at the TSC con in Vegas. Its such a nice soap. Really lives up to the creamy lather promise on the label and the scent is very much what you would expect from the best smelling barbershop in Tucson Arizona. The finger guns were a-blazing.

Still loving my pre-war British tech with a Wilkinson Sword blade. The blade has 39 shaves on it and it hasn't let me down once. I'm really not sure how much farther this blade can go but my plan to buy 100 Wilkinson Sword blades has been put on hold since I still have 4 more blades out of the single tuck I currently have. I'll revisit that plan if I get down to a single blade.

My Semogue boar has attained a much loved, much used appearance with a nice full spread of its bristles. Its quickly becoming my go-to brush most mornings.

Ka-Pow!!!! My newest favorite is the Nivea 2:1 aftershave. I quickly discovered that with the 2:1, less is more. And the scent is sort of tropical in my mind....not sure if others get that note but that's what it smells like to me.

Been playing around with a few of my cologne samples and I really like the Tommy Bahama Very Cool. Its not over powering (which is good in the halls of the Scent Police). Plus its Friday and who doesn't want to smell like they're on vacation?

See Ya Later!

It's a shame your 3017 lifestyle kept you from enjoying another soap for so long!

Great Minds brother.... I used Hombres that I got from the CON as well.

Nope. I just get a fresh, crisp, aquatic type scent.

Ok....that description makes more sense with what I'm smelling. Tropical was the wrong way to describe it....its more like clean, tropical ocean, not pineapple or coconut or tropical flowers...so aquatic sounds correct. Thank you for helping to refine my scent descriptions. I admit to my newbie-ism.

RIP Vin! Commentators like him really make the game come alive.

Hopefully RIP Dogers too at some point.

Hopefully RIP Dodgers too at some point.
Not going to happen. You're giants are 21.5 games behind us. And we have the best record in baseball. Just sit back and enjoy the beautiful sea of Dodger Blue......

Had another nice chat with my ex over the weekend. 25+ years of catching up is taking longer than we both expected. Its funny how many things we are reminding the other of that happened all those years ago. I completely forgot that I took her to McDonald's for our first date (I still maintain that wasn't an official date......it was the movie the next day) and that I gave her diamond earrings. I had to remind her that she didn't get to see Duran Duran in concert because she broke up with me a month before the show. We also spent a lot of time laughing about how young we were back then and how we've both lived some really great experiences (I plan to tell her all the stories that I shared in my TSC Bingo game...she missed a few of those).

Also.....the wife and I are now officially checked in for our cruise in September. Royal Caribbean made their system all online during the pandemic so last night (or rather...this morning....yawn) at 12:01 am, we checked in and selected our boarding time for embarkation day.....first in line BABY!!! We're setting up our online accounts and getting all of our health documents in order so that at 10:35 am I'll be on my way to the first bar so I can find to order a Mai-Tai 'cause I'll be on vacation!!! The next 45 days are going to drag on forever.

Today's Shave Journal:

Decided to go with RustBoy and the Gillette Silver Blue. The blade now has 41 shaves on it and is still holding up. I'm not sure If I can go as high as @Spider has with his blade....or maybe I can.

I'm now on day 5 of the CBL Hombres 3017. Such a fine soap. Plenty of lather and it smells fantastic. Its going to have to be a mainstay in my shave den going forward.

The Semogue boar is getting almost exclusive work these past two weeks. Such a great brush. I may have to get a few more....in different colors.

The alum block is really helping to perfect my shave each morning. For the past 3 days I haven't felt any tingle where last week I kept getting a small spot on my chin. I like that its possible to learn new things....even at my age.

Been using the Nivea 2:1 for two straight weeks so this morning I shook up the Proraso aftershave balm and.........ahhhhhhhhh...so soothing. Again, I wish I hadn't resisted aftershaves all these years. Never had any idea that they could help my face after each shave. I always thought they were just so I could burn my face off....but now I know that its to condition and sooth my face. And to think, if I'd started using aftershave when I was a younger man....I might look a bit younger today.

See Ya Later!
