Received my first soap order yesterday (I know some of you are amazed)......CBL Inconceivable (I helped name it!) and with it being 110 degrees in Las Vegas...I had to immediately put the soap in my beer fridge. Its rough living here sometimes...well, mostly in the summer.
Shave Journal:
The newest CBL soap, Inconceivable, has a fantastic scent. The citrus (lemon, blood orange, tangerine) comes through at the right moments as the day goes on. I didn't put on any aftershave or cologne so I could enjoy the scent all day. Its like you can see Vizzini laying back in a citrus orchard waiting for Buttercup to come along so he can abduct her and start a war between two neighboring countries. It's a prestigious line of work with a long and glorious tradition.
I'm starting to wonder if I've been throwing out my DE blades too early all these past years. Back in the day....(I'm old) I would toss them after only 5 or 6 uses. The current blade I'm using (a Wilkinson Sword) has been going strong for over 4 months. That's well over 65 shaves on this one blade alone (I switch between the Wilki and a Gillette Silver Blue, which has about 45 shaves on it) but both blades have been consistent and sharp throughout. Maybe buying 100 blades of each was overkill....but it now looks like I never need to buy blades again.
Used my Pre-war British Tech. Again, I love this razor. I think the wide, oval slots are perfect for clearing out the lather and the geometry of the head is perfect. The weight and balance of the nickel plated brass head is....chefs kiss. I get a smooth, consistent shave every time with this razor. Its like perfection.
Now...I'm going to reveal something about my shaves that I'm sure is going to cause some controversy:
I'm a one or two pass shaver. I know right now there are heads exploding all over the country. But let me explain. I was taught to shave by my Grandfather...and he hated to shave. He said it was the one thing he wouldn't wish on his enemies (which thinking back on is strange because he had no enemies and most males have to shave....so now I'm wondering what he meant). Anyway...he said if you can't do the job in one pass, you're doing it wrong. So for the first 25+ years....that was how I shaved. One blade, one razor, one soap, one brush, one pass. Since stumbling across the wet shave community online, I've learned a bit more about razors and blades and soaps and brushes (and watches and whiskey and ect. ect. ect.) and passes. Now, don't get me wrong....I'm still not able to successfully pull off three passes but I will....from time to time....do a second pass. I know that its a foreign concept around these here parts but most mornings I do a single pass with some neckline clean up. Almost like a pass and a half.....I still get BBS. Its what works for me and I know I'm decidedly in the minority on this one. But I thought I should tell everyone that info.
See ya Later.
