The Heysi Missive

So wait, you got new headphones???

Seriously though....about a year ago I got a pair of Sony studio monitor headphones (Sony MD 7506...in case anyone is wondering) and after a good deal of breaking in, I'm now going back and listening to all my old records (well....cds) and I'm hearing stuff I never heard before. Lots of extra levels and new sounds popping out of the mix and its wonderful. The above message was a spur of the moment thing after hearing some amazing bass lines on an album I've probably listened to well over 1000 times and just wasn't aware of. To actually get a response from Kathy was not in my wildest imagination. I'm so happy that my message arrived to her on a day when she was having a hard time with her mothers alzheimer's (something I wasn't aware of when I sent my message).

But one of the things I'm looking forward to as I approach retirement (in 20+ years!) is being able to sit back and listen to music on a great pair of headphones.

Nothings happening today at work (in my office....boss is still in India and I'm all caught up) so I might as well write a shave journal:

The thinnest puck of vintage Williams is still hanging on. Gotta love the way it seems like its about to end and then you get another week out of it. Whips up really thick with the Razorrock Snowman synthetic. I'm determined to get thicker and thicker lathers out of less and less loading. If they're going to take away my old reliable soap...I'm just going to have to make sure the 16 regular & 2 vintage pucks I still have left will last me until 2076. Of course its going to be a bit easier with all the new soaps I'm enjoying. I'll admit I'm not as adventurous as some of you are to get soaps that you have no idea how they smell. I'll get there eventually.....

Decided to use my Red Flair Tip with a Gillette Silver Blue. I like how its a no-muss, no-fuss set up with that razor. Exactly the right amount of blade exposure for me. Again, I think Gillette engineering peaked in the mid 1950's...why they didn't stick with that type of razor, I'll never understand.

The alum block has been enlightening. I'm learning that I'm doing a good job on my chin and neck but that I occasionally have tender spots around the corners of my mouth. I'm working to improve in those areas.

Used the Proraso aftershave lotion today for some extra soothing. And then.........

I did something crazy.

I used a cologne. Back when I first met my wife...and I was trying to impress her....I would spray on a single blast of Ralph Lauren Polo. I haven't used any since I was in my late 20's. But this morning I reached into the cabinet and pulled it out from the way-back and gave myself one single blast. I'm probably going to get a visit from the scent police....but screw it. I'm here to enjoy this life.

See ya Later.

So it turns out a have 3 colognes. I found one in the bed side table last night. I have Polo in a green bottle, in a blue bottle and Polo Sport...which was what I found last night. I guess I liked Polo at some point. Or more likely....the wife liked Polo.

Sir, can I point out you live in an area with easy access to some shops with lovely scents.

Want more samples? Start searching for perfume houses and colognes on FB and you'll start getting offers for free samples. I've received a bunch. Just got a box from Macys yesterday that had 6 samples in it.
Finally!

I must have stuck it in there so it would be easier to put on while getting dressed.
