Hope everyone enjoyed the Labour Day weekend! Dome shave today and I was looking forward to seeing how the AS-D2 was going to do. Loaded up with a Wizamet IR which on my face is very comfortable, sharp and smooth.
Soap today was Nivea Protect & Care and a little dab in the lather bowl was all that was needed for the 30mm Synbad to whip up a wall of lather. Perfect coverage on the dome with the 30mm.
Three passes with a little touch up and pretty close to BBS! The AS-D2 was really a pleasure to use for the dome today. Comfortable with zero irritation. Need to work on the angle a bit next time but all and all an excellent shave. Enjoy the rest of the long weekend. Stay safe!

Back to the SE and I have no finer an SE in my collection than the Colonial General SS. I love my DE’s but the General covers a lot real estate quickly and smoothly. My preferred AC blade is the Schick ProLine but the Feather Pro is also quite good in this razor and so so I loaded a fresh one today.
Soap of choice HetV Terre d’Henri which is a earthy scent and a blend of citrus and spice. One of my favourite soaps from HetV and it lathers quite well and provides a lovely slick shave. Plus for me is that they are a Canadian artisan and so extra points in my books. Wish they came in a larger size tub but today I used my Simpson Special in Best and had no issues loading up a healthy amount of soap despite its small size.
Lovely and easy three pass shave and BBS achieved. The General is just a fantastic shaver and the Feather was smooth and sharp. Just perfect. Finished off with the matching balm and some Guerlain L’Homme Ideal to keep to the scent profile. Excellent shave all around. Enjoy the day!

Another dome shave today and though I enjoyed the AS-D2 I wanted to try something else though equally “mild”. Today’s razor of choice the Gillette Rocket HD loaded up with a Voskhod.
Today’s soap duties fell to Gillette Pure which is a no nonsense cream. Performs well and has a fresh barbershop scent. Little in the bowl yielded more than enough to do 5+ passes easy.
Got through four easy passes on the dome and smooth as can be. The Rocket HD was mild but perfect for my melon. Topped it off with B&L balm and a spritz of Guerlain Homme L’eau Boisee. Have a great day Cadre!

There are few scents I like as much as Stirling Gatlinburg. B&M Seville comes to mind as a quintessential citrus, barbershop Summer scent. Gatlinburg is a bold, smoky blend of cedar wood, lavender, bergamot, balsom, lichen, musk, black pepper, sage and cade. Translation...it smells like John Wayne, Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner and Carey Grant sat down to play poker! While Sean Connery tended bar! It smells like burly man with a bit of refinement in there!
Razor today was the Gillette Flare Tip Rocket loaded up with a fresh Perma-Sharp Super. I love the razor but the blade is one that doesn’t come up that often. I need to change that because it is very sharp and very smooth. Great combo today and I really enjoyed it. The Flare Tips all shave the same whether American or Brit, Rocket, TV Special or just regular. They aren’t too much of any one thing.

I need to change that because it is very sharp and very smooth. Great combo today and I really enjoyed it. Gatlinburg is awesome! The city itself is a fascinating place filled with hotels, pancake houses and moonshine bars. It thrives on tourism generated by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I grew up about 75 minutes from there and visited often when I was growing up.

The Sunday shave and what a shave it was. I had a Gillette Rocket HD on deck today but decided to break out the AS-D2 from its beautiful red box instead. I am really happy Mrs. S found this one for me and it was NIB when she grabbed it. Just a fantastic razor. Loaded up with a Perma-Sharp Super which is a blade I have not tried in this razor.
Soap of the day was First Line Shave Red Label which is a great choice if you are looking for a cologne scent. This one is a dupe of Dior Fahrenheit and quite nice. Just a real pleasure to lather this soap because the strong scent is just so good. All good here with this one.
Proceeded through a nice leisurely shave enjoying the whole process today. Four passes in total with WTG, XTGx2 and ATG leading to a super close and smooth shave. Indeed the dolphins ARE screaming. Enjoy your Sunday and stay safe.

Well from the land of mild in the AS-D2 to wild in the Blackland Dart. Both stainless steel beauties to behold but at either end of the shave scale when it comes to “aggression”. Yes, we all have opinions on this topic and this is my opinion...the AS-D2 is mild and comfortable the Dart is not so much. Technique calms this beast as does blade choice and you will be rewarded with a super, super close shave. You will however be quite aware of your shave especially if you lose focus.
Wanted to try something different today and reached for the minty goodness of Sapone di Paolo Menta. All spearmint goodness with a touch of menthol in there. Now known as “eleven” the soap is wonderful and the scent strong. Wish I had a few more of these.
Got through three lovely, leisurely passes and was indeed rewarded with a BBS finish. The dolphins scream alright but it’s in submission! I love this razor and it is beautifully made but it is a beast. I am thankful I honed my technique with a Muhle R41 before getting this one. Enjoy your shaves! Stay safe!
