Well now I wanted to try something new today and honestly was a little pressed for time. I got a bunch of iKon razors in a while back and wanted to try the Standard base plate or “Tech” style. I have a bunch of iKon handles and settled on the 80mm bulldog this morning. Honestly, I have read and seen many a review on how aggressive this razor is so I took it slow. Loaded up with a Personna Platinum.

Soap of choice was RazoRock Saturnia which is soap that has a wonderful mineral component to the scent. It is really a scent unto itself. Try it if you can because it is a very good soap.

So the verdict? I have a Blackland Dart that has more blade feel. I wouldn’t operate this Tech on autopilot but it was great to get through two very easy passes without any issues at all. Razor balances well on the shorty handle and it is efficient but my Muhle R41 feels much more dangerous. DFS/BBS in two works on a Wednesday!

Happy shaves all!

Mineral component hm? When I think minerally scented soap, I think La Toja; it’s the only scent of that kind I’ve knowingly tried (and it’s scent is great). Any relation?

I have not tried La Toja sadly enough. It is sulpher minerality and Tuscan herbs. Just quite unique.

Well my last SOTD and review of the iKon “Tech” got me thinking if the Blackland Dart indeed had more blade fell so I reached for it today. Loaded up with a Personna Platinum same as the iKon just to keep it equal. I have kinda had Blackland on the brain so was looking forward to grabbing this one.

Soap of the day the wonderful Stirling Agar which is all Agarwood, cedar, smoke and spice. I jam my beak in that tub every chance I get! Only second to Gatlinburg for sniffs per minute! Great soap and one I always look forward to when the Fall rolls around. Agar has a sweetness to it that I can’t place but it is quite exceptional.

So with lather on face and Dart in hand, I set about to test my theory and over two passes, I find them to be equal. Perhaps my first impression of the Dart was a bit off. It is a very smooth but efficient shaver but is has no more blade feel than the iKon Tech. Both bark but technique will curb the bite so to speak. I would not use either as daily drivers because they need to work. If you shave every other day the Dart or iKon Tech are awesome. Again DFS/BBS in two with the edge going to the Dart for me. Next up the Grand Daddy of them all (in my collection anyway) the R41.

Safe travels Cadre the weekend is upon us!

My wife doesn’t understand the need to sniff soaps and AS yet. She likes the way things smell, but not that much.

It like a dang drug...
Oh you aren't kidding...my wife will be like "Did it change since the last time you jammed your skull in it"..."Nope...still smells awesome!"...she only gets torqued when I get into the whole "base notes, middle notes, top notes dissertation"...game over...she is headed for a drink! :p

Nice thoughts and great shave! I like the look of that razor!
Don it is a really well made razor with super tight tolerances. Machined Stainless Steel. Just put in a pre-order on a Vector with Shane’s 18% discount...can’t wait to get it!

Changed the base plate on the iKon from the Tech or Standard to the OC Deluxe and loaded up with a fresh Bolzano. Now it’s been a long time since I used one and I was quite surprised by how sharp and smooth it was.

RazoRock Nomad with the matching AS is right down the “Fall” alley for me. Very nice scent.

Got through a very nice two pass DFS to start the work week. Nothing exciting just a very nice shave...

Traveling again and so time for another road shave. Brought two razors with me and decided to kickoff with my Gillette Sheraton. This OC TTO is one of two I own, the other being a 34/35 Aristocrat. It is a thing of beauty in my opinion and shaves very well. Not a bad looker either.

Soap of the day Henri et Victoria Terre d’Henri good Canadian soap maker making exceptional soaps. Lathers up really nicely and the scent is perfect for fall.

Fresh Voskhod in the Sheraton and through a very smooth and close two pass shave. Love the Sheraton, miss home.

Safe travels Cadre!

Road shave number two and I carry on with the fancy razor collection. Gillette New LC redone by Chris Spencer at Back Roads Gold in 24k just like the Sheraton. Smoooooth! Loaded up with a Super-Max Blue Diamond Titanium and I am quite impressed how smooth, sharp and cheap they are! They are quickly becoming a favourite and as I have 100 stashed along with everything else, I should be good for a long time.

Soap of the day is Southern Witchcrafts Peach. I read and watched a few reviews on this company primarily by @Spider (KJ) but as he hadn’t tried any of their single scents, I decided to give it a whirl. Very nice smoky peach of a scent is all I can say. Not sweet just very memorable. Great lather and performance. Need to get a few of their more complex scents.

Mid-trip and a wonderful, two pass shave. “Hump Day” so to speak we are headed down the slide and closer to home. Take care and safe travels Cadre!

I just got some samples from them of some scents I haven’t tried yet, and peach was one of them. Very interesting take on peach. It’s not light and sweet like you’d expect a peach to be. It’s dark, but very nice.

Yup I would agree. I really like it though the matching AS has a bit more peach in it but still darker. Great AS skin food!
