The 2nd Annual Williams Mug Soap 3017 Challenge!

After seeing how easily @Spider got a lather on his weekend video, tried a shorter load (60 count instead of the 120 I’d been doing) with a damp brush, then added back some water as I built a face lather. Got a nice stable lather that felt good. Why do I have the suspicion that I will master this task just in time for it to be rendered obsolete…

Day 13:

Soooo things have gotten interesting. A few days ago my Brutal Willy came loose from the bowl and it now spins freely when lathering, which adds a new layer of madness to the lathering process. Other than that it’s been business as usual. At first I thought I was burning through the puck too fast but it’s been slowing down. The last few days I’ve been using the RazoRock BBS with a Rapira Swedish Super Steel and the Omega Evo and then chasing it with Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme aftershave splash. It’s sad to hear this soap got discontinued. It’s such an important piece of shaving history.

Williams Day 14

I need to try a boar brush for my next shave. Been using Synth primarily.

Yeah, it’s been a good experience. I got this brush last November in preparation for an all boar brush December. This month has let me put more shaves on the brush to further break it in (I’m up to 40 now). I’ve been enjoying the experience

Posted this in my journal, but the sensible people don't go there. 😜

.......
Even though it is mid-February, and even though I am in Canada, and even though it is nice and chilly outside this morning (-11C/12F), I decided to use some Proraso pre/post-shave before face lathering. Yeah, scary stuff!! But my thought was that I couldn't make the lather any worse, right?

And guess what?

Everything turned out pretty good, even with the face freeze. The lather was still sub-standard but was much better than before and didn't evaporate as quickly as it used to.

With this in mind, I have now mixed about a good-sized *blop* of the Proraso pre/post-shave into my Williams. We'll see how it goes from here. What have I got to lose?

Today's shave was another good one. Now that I have it dialed in the Williams is giving me great results.

After the shave I decided to test the hydration on the puck. It squished. So, I pressed it down into the bottom of the milk glass shave mug that I have been using. We will see how long it lasts now that it has gone all soft and I have increased the surface area of the top of the puck.

Williams + Mergress XL + Treet Black + Stirling Badger fan knot = some really good shaving.

It would appear from sources around the web, that WIlliams has been discontinued. Probably why a couple of you could not find a puck locally. I'd suggest for those of you who do enjoy using it, to go out and look at your local grocery stores and drug stores and buy all you can to stock up before it disappears!
I just checked my local store and found they have about 20 on the shelf. I grabbed a couple and left the rest. If anyone feels they MUST have some I will grab some for you. They are still priced at $0.98 plus tax so it’s a steal.

Buy them all up.

You can either sell them to whomever gets KJ next Christmas or include once in each Vegas loot bag!

I just checked every place in my town that would possibly carry it, and my town is dry….

But I have a theory… within a few months any remaining stock of Williams will hit Big Lots for 25 cents a puck.

Used my Semogue Boar today. For some reason (@heysi) I was expecting something magical to happen, to improve my lather. It didn't. I still think my synthetic gives me the best results.

For some reason I've never been able to get a great lather with my boars, not sure why.

Personal ranking is synth > badger > boar but I'm not even attempting my boars this year.
