The 2nd Annual Williams Mug Soap 3017 Challenge!

Still hate this soap....but it's getting better. Only 4 shaves due to not shaving daily recently (I need to change that!), but today I noticed a marked improvement in the lather. I bloomed the puck for about 5 minutes in hot water and loaded with an almost dry synth brush for about a 60 count. For me it seems less water to start is getting me a slightly better lather. It's still not where I like it to be, and it is still a magical disappearing lather, but it's better than it has been. The slickness on this stuff almost makes it not matter anyway!

I'll also add that last year I grated my puck and added Whiskey Woods for scent. This year I'm going plain modern Williams with no scent, and I think that's also making a difference. Even the worst lather so far this year has been better than what I was getting last year. I also think this puck is going to last waaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than last year as well....bummer.

Sounds about right to what I've found too - a nice soak while I shower, 60ish seconds of loading with less water initially, then slowly adding as I face lather. Don't get the dreaded disappearing lather if I add the water slowly and methodically but with how slick the soap is, I don't have issues completing a shave comfortably regardless!

Day 8:

So I think I figured out how to get this soap to behave for me. I grabbed a best badger, which is really scritchy. I think having a rougher brush is really agitating the soap a lot better. The last few shaves it’s starting to feel more like a normal load on a hard puck. Last few shaves have been with the RazoRock Hawk and Feather Professional blades with pharmacy Brut aftershave.

11 days into my Canadian Puck and shaves are slick and effortless. I think I can see the slightest green hue poking through the middle of my tub after loading up my brush this morning. Usage is holding at 1.7g per shave, which would put me finishing up the tub right around 3/1. However, if I break through to the bottom of the tub tomorrow, I estimate my usage to start increasing. Time will tell.

Godspeed to those of you who didn't grate and are lathering straight off the hard puck - I know it lasts significantly longer that way!

I think I will switch over from the Paladin to my Chubby-2 synth to see if I can get some improvement from my (sub)standard Williams lather.

If I had even an inkling of an idea on how to make a video, I would show you all how easy this soap is to lather. I'm serious when I say that my grandfather and great grandfather used this soap while being shot at by Imperial forces of the nation of Japan in WWII and the German Empire in WWI. I think some of you are overthinking it.

Pretty sure your smart phone can record video.... And also upload said video directly to YouTube. What else do you need to know? Plenty of us here to ask that do it all the time.

Oh sure....make it sound all easy and such.

Williams Day 10
Nice lather this morning.

Fun discovery of the day, was watching a YouTube video on vintage aftershaves and the presenter mentioned that most vintage bottles were designed to not allow any product to escape the bottle if you put your thumb over the mouth and flip it directly upside down. Naturally, I had to try this…

It doesn’t!

Thankfully I only lost a little more than an average day’s use in this experiment.
