Shave Time!

Razor: Razorock Tech II
Blade: Parker
Brush: Stirling Kong Synthetic
Soap: OZ Shaving Tik Tok
AS: Oz Shaving Tik Tok

So I really wanted to get to the bottom of the funk from last night. I switched out to my synthetic to eliminate any brush funk, and I still got hints of it. I’m wondering if it’s possible it kind of wore off into the soap a little bit. It wasn’t present the entire shave it came and went. It also was very faint when I did smell it tonight. So who knows. The only other thing I can think of is that it’s possible the coffee aspect of the scent becoming concentrated in the mix somehow. That’s the only thing I could say the smell is close to, and even then it would be burnt coffee haha. All in all the shave was good. A good lather tonight, DFS all over. No irritation.

Maybe some note in the scent is getting to you. Happens to me occasionally.

So ... once you get past the funk, it’s awesome? Hit it again like it owes you money and see if the funk is still there.

Shave Time!

Razor: Rockwell 6C Plate #3
Blade: Parker
Brush: WWBW Jingle/ Stirling Kong
Soap: Oz Shaving Wicked
AS: Oz Shaving Wicked

Should have waited until tomorrow....

The Rockwell 6C came in and I took it out for the first run tonight. I went with plate #3 to keep it right in the middle and see where that got me.

First, let me review the razor. I’ll give further thoughts after a few uses, but on its maiden voyage I must say I was impressed. Out of the box the fit and finish seemed excellent. I loaded a blade on plate 1 and 3 to see if I could tell the difference visually, and it was very obvious. Again, I’ll do a further review after a few uses and will probably do so in a separate post.

Now....as to why my sub headline said that I should’ve waited...The Eagles player tonight. I watched the Eagles plays with my father-in-law, who may be the biggest eagles fan I’ve ever met. They won, the Vikings lost, and the Eagles are playoff bound. Scotch was poured in celebration. You can figure out the rest. Lol. All in all I walked away DFS with no blood loss, so a win for me as well I guess lol.

So maybe it was the scotch, or maybe I’m doing something wrong, but I can’t seem to get a good lather using my Wild West Brushworks brush. The lather is just way too wet or way too dry. Mainly way too wet. Just a drippy mess most of the time. I didn'teven attempt a first pass with what I lathered initially. I dropped the Wild West Brushworks brush and picked up my Stirling synthetic. That lathered me up just fine. I guess I need to revisit some lathering videos, or maybe I need To just stick to synthetics. The brush is also still putting off a pretty strong funk, which I thought would’ve been gone after 3 shampoos.

Willie World:
Willie is pretty pumped about the Eagles win/Vikings loss. He even dig out his green bone! He’s starting to feel better after resting pretty strictly the last few days.

Haha thanks Dave. This morning I’m still feeling pretty smooth from plate #3, and that was with 3 days growth. I’d say that’s not too bad! Still need to figure out my brush issues though.

I’m kicking myself for not getting one of those when they were on sale on Amazon

I found that my newer brushes are holding more water than I thought. This is probably because the knots are larger than what I was using before. Load your soap longer, that will give the water something to do. If is dry throw more water at it.

For de-funking, I have a separate mug with new Williams. I will lather the new brush in that and let it sit. Then shave with your kit for the day and clean everything up. Takes about a week, maybe two.

Buzzed Shaving is Drunk Shaving and Friends Don't Let Friends Shave Drunk! You got away with one there buddy! I would temper those desires to shave after drinking Scotch! Glad you are enjoying the Oz Wicked! It really is a very good soap.

My little guy Chauncey did something the other day and was walking a little stiff. My wife freaked out (he is her baby) and immediately put him on some rest for a couple of days with an anti-inflammatory that we keep on hand from the vet. He seems to be better now...but we are still watching him like a hawk. We will likely try to get him in for an acupuncture session this week to help with the inflammation. Glad to see Willie up and at it again!

So far I’m impressed. I would say even at full price the razor is worth it.

Thanks for the tips Tim. I’ve used dog shampoo on it about 4-5 times now. That hasn’t quite been enough yet. I’ll try doing the lather and sit method like you suggested.

Haha you’re probably right Don, but I couldn't resist the urge to use my new toy! I got lucky and walked away with a pretty decent shave. Although with the growth I had, I probably could have gone with plate 4 or 5.

Sending good vibes to Chauncey! Sometimes all they need is a bit of rest and some anti inflammatory meds. Willie had one or two instances where he was a little stiff and we tried the rest and meds and it worked.

I leave a new badger brush lathered up on the counter overnight when breaking it in. A soap with a nice strong smell will help too.
