Steve's Journal: The Saga Continues....

I always forget which one I like (I received 2 of each) but I think it’s the German version. I’ll check when I get home. The Gillette version says Gillette on the blade right?
You are correc sir -,the Germans come in a black hard plastic tuck, the Gillettes are cardboard red white and blue

It’s definitely a German WS that I’m using.
I like them both - to be honest - I find that they have similar properties as far as smoothness in my shaves. I know that the Gillette WS are made primarily in India (I have read that some are made in China). The German ones are actually owned by a British company and are made in Germany.

I do have 2 Gillette WS blades, but haven’t tried one yet. Maybe I’ll give one a go tomorrow for comparison.

As promised for @Scuttlesoap I did a comparison of the German version of the Wilkinson Sword blade and the Gillette version. To be fair, the German version I’ve been using has quite a few shaves on it. The Gillette version used today was brand new. That being said, I still like the German version better. To me, the Gillette version is not as sharp/efficient, or smooth. I am prone to weepers and usually have a few pop up on my last pass, but with the Gillette WS they were showing up on my first pass. The shave itself felt a little on the rough side, and after a 4 pass shave (yeah I go overboard. N-S, nose to ear, ear to nose, S-N) I still wasn’t completely BBS. Maybe it’s my technique, but I am almost always closer with my favorite blades after my third pass. The 4th is more cleanup and less of a complete pass in most cases. I’ll give the blade a few more shaves to see if it settles in, but so far I’m leaning towards the German WS.

My parents stopped by this morning to pick up some patio chairs for the balcony at their new apartment. My dad brought a few presents. As part of their move and downsizing from a house to an apartment, I was gifted half of my dad’s Danbury and Franklin Mint 1:24 scale model cars. I had a few open spots after setting up what he gave me, and today he brought 4 more. Here’s the collection:

As you can tell, he’s a big Cadillac fan lol.

Willie World:
Willie gets a sleepover with grandmom tomorrow night. The wife and I will be headed to Atlantic City to see Guns ‘N Roses. Pretty excited as the venue they’re playing only holds 7,000 people. Always cool to see a band like this in a smaller more intimate venue instead of a stadium. Might have to bring back Willie a t-shirt.

Nice car collections!

I have been a GNR fan since I was 8 or so (hey, it was the 80’s and early 90’s, parents were never around 🤷‍♂️). I saw them back in 2001 as “Axl and hired guns” version and have seen Slash and Duff several times as Slash’s Snakepit and Velvet Revolver. This should have been my bucket list concert, but, when they reunited in 2016, my youngest son was born right before they hit Detroit….so didn’t see them or any concert since before that time. Enjoy the show - Slash is why I started playing guitar 25+ years ago 🤘

This will be our second time seeing them since the “reunion”. Still kind of upset that Izzy isn’t involved. But when we saw them on the first leg of the last tour it was amazing. We’ve seen Slash with Myles Kennedy a few times and I always told my wife, this is the closest to seeing G’N’R that we'll ever get. Myles can really pull it off. So pumped that they got back together and that Axl can still pull it off.
I am sooooooooooo jealous!!! Greatest. Band. Ever.
For me, second greatest. Metallica always comes first 😎. It is a verrrrrrry close second though lol.

The cars are definitely special to me. My dad has been collecting them since I was a kid and they’ve been his pride and joy for so long. When my parents realized they couldn’t keep them because of the downsize, my dad was just gonna put them on eBay. My wife actually said you can’t let your dad sell those, we’ll take them and he can come over and see them anytime he wants. Then my parents realized they room for one case so my dad split them up. I’m really surprised that he gave me some of the models that he did, especially the 54(?) Cadillac. It’s the same model Clemenza had in The Godfather, I didn’t think I was getting that one!

Completely forgot that I saw Slash and Myles back in 2012 or so - I told my wife (fiancée at the time) the exact same thing…the finale of “Paradise City” with the confetti canons was pretty cool!

also saw Metallica in 2004 - whoa! No wonder they have been the “kings of mainstream metal” all these years.

Keep on rockin’ 🤘

Finally feeling human again after a long weekend. I’m still trying to give this blade a fair shot, and it seems to have mellowed a bit after the first shave. It’s still not as smooth or efficient as the German version ever was though. We’ll see if anything changes over the next few shaves, but I’m doubtful.

G’N’R was amazing as expected. Great set list, and super cool to see them in a venue that only holds 3,000 people. We were in the general admission area (in front of the seats) about 2 people behind the VIP section (too much money for me). We set up on Slash’s side of the stage and were about 10 people back from the stage. So cool! At the end of the night Axl tossed his microphone into the crowd as they walked off stage and I was about 2 feet away from making the catch…so close. We ended up meeting up with a large group of friends who were also at the show afterwards and hung out in the casino wayyyyyy to late (4:30am what were we thinking?!?). Erica won $8 on a slot machine and cashed out immediately. She’s smarter than I am 😂😂😂

Willie World:
According to grandmom, Willie enjoyed his sleepover but he was happy to have his humans home all day Monday and get in some couch time.
