Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Saw your post on FB about the new wheels improving performance on the ‘Vette! Remember to let off the gas a little on those hairpins there Rich :ROFLMAO:

I’m really easing into the maneuverability aspects of the car. I’m told there is a bit of a tendency to oversteer at the edges.

3 Jul 2020 New, scary, cool, Techichi, Ethos Shave
Razor: Gem Featherweight / Gem (1)
Soap: Ethos Fresh Lime
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Techichi Hive Synthetic
AS/eDt: Ethos lime, Speick

Comments: Today I’m taking care of a number of challenges simultaneously at the same time. I am snakebit when it comes to Gem razors. The last time I used a Gem, an MMOC, I lost way too many skin cells. I’ve never used this razor and have been holding off for quite a while in dread. Also using the cool monthly theme, and the Techichi and Ethos themes.

The Hardware: I am quite intimidated by the whole Gem idea. All that blade sticking out, deadly sharp, aching to remove anything in its way. Scared.

The Software: To balance the unique savagery of the Gem. I’m using both the cube pre-shave and Ethos soap. I also added a good hunk of WS-23

The Shave: I rode the cap carefully. Still got flayed.

I nominated @uacowboy Kyle and @elmerPHuD

I have a Clog Pruf I used once. I didn't get cut, but I found the whole experience uncomfortable. I might give it another try, but I'm in no hurry.

8 Jul 2020 Greydog Badger Brush sea trial
Razor: Colonial General / Feather ProTouch
Soap: Sterling Island Man
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Greydog Walnut and Maple / Maggard High Density Two Band Fan 24mm
AS/eDt: Sterling Island Man

Comments: Received this beauty today! A gift from our gifted Greydog. An evening shave now that it’s cooling down. Today made 10 days in a row of 90+ degrees. Ohio heat is usually humid and miserable, it did not fail in this regard. I did record this shave but I had a microphone malfunction so it was a silent movie. I got to be a little more creative with the rendering of the movie.

The Hardware: I selected a proven razor to enjoy this brush. I took a couple of pictures that are inadequate to portray how nice it is. I feel very special to have this one selected for me. Performance will improve as the knot gets broken in more. No lost hairs this round,

The Software: Sterling Island man is a great fragrance that I enjoy in warm weather. It will smell nice in the CPAP tonight!

The Shave: I got a good, but not great lather tonight. I believe I was shy on the water band. Tis a thirsty one this soap. DFS no irritation. Kind of what I was shooting at. Thank you so much for the brush Steve,

Great shave Rich! We’re there with the weather too...most of the week is slated to be 100ish 😓

8 Jul 2020 Greydog Synthetic Brush sea trial
Razor: Feather AC/SS /Feather Pro-Touch
Soap: Sterling Triumph
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Greydog Acrylic 24mm Tuxedo
AS/eDt: Sterling Triumph

Comments: The Second of my Greydog brushes, this acrylic beauty sports a tuxedo knot. Somewhere along the line I bought a rod of acrylic and was going to try to turn a brush using a power drill. That turned into a great mess so I sent the rod to @Graydog in appreciation for the brush he made for me. He turned this out from that rod.

The Hardware: I selected another proven razor so I can enjoy this brush. The green Batman was selected and the blade from Bullwinkle transferred. I like the shape and heft of this brush. The tuxedo knot is one I had planned to use if I were successful in turning on my own. The combo not only looks great, but performs as I would expect. Outstanding as most modern synthetics have been lately.

The Software: Sterling Triumph smells great! Came in a smaller tub than usual, as did the AS. In the usual way Sterling lathered predictably.

The Shave: Three passes and I am solidly in DFS land. As this is an evening shave, I am not going to do any baby chasing tonight. Tomorrow we are having drive-in Church again, so will not encounter many people. This is comfortable and good.
Thanks again Steve!

14 Jul 2020 Graydog Badger/Wood Brush sea trial contd..
Razor: Blackland Vector /Feather Pro
Soap: WSP Matterhorn
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: Graydog Maple and Mahogany Maggaard High Density Two band
AS/eDt: WSP Matterhorn

Comments: Sea trials continue with the Graydog Custom. Getting used to the high density bristles. It's a Glorious day in Ohio, the heat wave being broken. I think I will go to the car wash today after hitting the green grocer. Basically a good day to be alive!

The Hardware: Vercot with the Feather of unknown number of shaves was a touch irritating. I think I prefer the Proguard to the Pro. The Brush. Oh the Brush! I can really get used to how well it loads. Actually loads pretty heavy and I need to be cognizant of that. It is almost as hungry as a Boar, but the tips gel nicely. The lather seems to like to hide within the bristles as I am whipping and the bowl looks empty until I squeeze the lather out of the brush and then it's copious. Not used to that happening.

The Software: I like the fragrance of this soap. the performance is pretty mid-pack, but I like everything else.

The Shave: Its been a few shaves since the Vector has been deployed and it is fighting to keep it's place of esteem in the rotation. It needn't feel that way. Three passes and a bit of clean-up and Im sure I'll dry down to a BBS. A couple of high pressure sprays from the eDT and I'm ready to smell nice the rest of the morning.

23 Jul 2020 Outdoor Shave
Razor: Blackland Vector / Feather ProGuard (2)
Soap: Pannacrema Nuavia Rossa
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffin
Brush: RazoRock 400 Synthetic
AS/eDt:

Comments: I’m sure to be tagged for an outdoor shave, so am taking care of it with a bit of a twist. Weather conditions make a full outdoor shave kind of sketchy, so I am tucked just inside the threshold of my garage.

The Hardware: The Vector comes on for a utility shave in an unusual role. I’m making use of the shiny fender of my Corvette as a mirror.

The Software: Pannacrema is great soap indoors and Out.

The Shave: Using a tiny tripod I lined up a suitably wide spot on the fender and commenced the shave. With the lather, I am able to see most of my face clearly. This resembles the candle light shave in that regard. Three passes to a DFS+.
