Rich's Journal: Adventures with Life and Sharp things

Speick A/S is a light citrus scent that is quite uplifting. I like it a lot.
I should probably revisit this splash, as I loved the aroma. I used it very early on in my wetshaving journey, perhaps when I went from a mild starter razor (EJ DE89) to birth year Red Tip. I recall it was harsh, but that could have been my skills at that early stage being revealed.

Your Thor is a dead ringer for The Dude.

Razor: Gillette 2019 Heritage Razor / GSB (1)
Soap: CBL Sir Fougere Stick
Scuttle: Face Lather
Strop:
Brush: Sorrentino Cadre Anniversary Boar
AS/EdT: Alpa Fougere

Comments: After several delays and mock cancellations, I received my Gillette Heritage razor Yesterday. I unboxed it while I was waiting on a new hose on the old Benz. I made my CBL Stick using a Duke Cannon Anti-Perspirant container. It seems to work out a but better than the oval Old Spice stick I made my Walt’s soap one with. The water jacket engine warmer I installed in the Benz shorted out and burned through the lower radiator hose. Catastrophic failure occurred just as I was entering the freeway. The lack of a proper service station made me limp it to a local garage for repairs.

The Hardware: Close examination of the heritage razor indicates the head is likely a Mulhe R89, and the handle is a US rendition of a Vintage Gillette handle (thus the heritage). The handle is pretty heavy compared to the original which I like. The threads of my handle seem pretty tight on the head, but not enough that I would be tempted to tap them out. Probably some chrome on the threads. Overall a very nice first try of what I hope will be an annual release.

The Software: I had two tubs of Sir Fougere, so used one to mash into the tube. I left the top off for a couple of weeks to harden and that may have been too much. I had some trouble judging how much product to apply to get an adequate lather. Once I was there everything was hunky dory.

The Shave: The razor did not disappoint on its quality of shave. It isn’t particularly aggressive and I think would be just fine beginners As well as seasoned users. The head is a bit narrower than the blade so a bit of blade sticking out is not a problem for me. Probably helps make the razor more maneuverable. Two and a half passes and I got a bona fide BBS.

Razor: Beaujeu Dumontel
Soap: CBL Russian Tea
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop: Griffith 3.25
Brush: Razor Rock 400 Synthetic
AS/EdT: SV 70th

Comments: Bringing out a French razor for a real change of pace today. This one has a really hollow cried, so I anticipate a vocal sporty shave. Closing out artisan week with one of Chris’ early masterpieces. It’s been lurking in a corner of 5he cabinet so has been a touch neglected. Having it out will guarantee it won’t be in that backwater spot.
I got the Miata back running perfect this week. Definitely more fun with a fresh clutch, and they must have fixed something else because my Oil pressure is reading a lot higher than it used to. The Mechanic says he made some adjustments so that must have been one of them.

The Hardware: This razor actually feels a little harsh! I wonder if it’s a symptom of over-stropping, or because of the grind. It gave me a bit of a nick during a cheek pass (very unusual)

The Software: This tub comes from one of Chris’ earlier big hits and is a bit more firm than his later premium releases. It is loaded with skin food and lubricity. Lathering is super easy. I’m not sure if there were any adjustments to the formula since this one came out, but I really like this stuff.

The Shave: with the exception of the razor feeling a little harsh, this was a pretty routine shave. I am wondering about how to use an extra strop of a different kind of leather with this Griffith strop. Maybe it can be used to “tone down” this harshness. Three passes to a DFS+ I want to like this razor, but won’t tolerate it wanting to scrape me up.

Excellent soap choice. I love that scent, though I never got any from Chris.
It's on sale!

Razor: Assured to / Voskhod (?)
Soap: Stirling Triumph
Scuttle: Captains Choice
Strop:
Brush: Stirling Fan shaped Badger
AS/EdT: Stirling Triumph

Comments: I have been meaning to bring out the Assured for some time with a good blade to see if my particular specimen was actually a good shaver. I keep a couple on hand for emergency use and having run across them in the cabinet decided today was the day.

The Hardware: My Assured feels pretty flimsy in the hand, but it does lock the blade pretty even. most of my razors handles weigh more than this entire razor. I transferred a blade from a Slim that was in the cabinet for this shave.

The Software: Stirling soaps need no introduction. Rods so consistent with his soaps I can always count on it when the razor may be a little sketchy (like this one)

The Shave: As the first time I used this razor, I am surprised how good my copy is! Three passes, no irritation, smooth as can be. Almost (dare I say it) in super-speed territory.

Nice shave with the *cough* infamous Assured, Rich. Those Chinese copies seem to be a bit finicky, but I never had too much trouble with my Weishi.
