Very cool razor handle! Daredevil and Punisher were both great series’s! I hope they get brought back.

I still feel like DC hasn’t done justice to Green Lantern yet though and now that Reynolds has done Deadpool, I’ll never see him any anyone else lol (I know it’s Marvel but still).
thank you kind sir! I agree with you on Green Lantern - I thought Reynolds was perfect for Dead Pool - and I know everyone is particular for whatever hero they like - but growing up and reading all the comics, GL definitely was not a goof off lol. What I remember best about GL - it was a Sunday tradition for my dad and me - We'd go to Sunday School and church, then he'd take us to the newspaper shop, my brother and I would get to pick up a comic book, he'd get the Philadelphia Inquirer. I remember the place - because they also sold pipe tobacco and cigars - so there was that memorable scent. Good times!

We are going upscale my friends - today's shave is based on Gin and Tonic......

Razor: REX Supply Co Ambassador
Blade: Derby Premium
Brush: RazoRock Noir Plissoft
Lather: Zingari Man The Socialite
Aftershave: Zingari Man The Socialite
Additional Care:
Commodity Fragrances Gin

This was Zingari Man's first attempt at using a cooling agent and they knocked it out of the park - and the scent - well, it is a classy shave.......I like the post shave balms from Zingari. For the razor - I enjoy the craftmanship of the REX Ambassador - but I have to say - it is really on the aggressive side- even at lower settings. The only blade that I have found to have tamed it is a Derby Premium.

Commodity Fragrances is a house out of the North East - I believe New Jersey. They had gone under and then were bought out and brought back to life. This is a fantastic frag - really fresh - has the boozy note without making you smell like your butler dropped your drink on you.

This was a fantastic morning / early afternoon!

Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley
Blade: Gillette Nacet
Brush: Yaqi Lucky Dice
Lather: Central Texas Soaps Summer Brew
Aftershave: Black Ship Grooming Hoptoberfest

First the shave - I did it after lunch today to tie things altogether. The soap reminds me of my time in the service - when I was stationed in San Antonio, TX - it has this light, nutty scent that reminds me of Shiner Bock beer. I wouldn't call this soap boozy at all - and unfortunately - I don't see it on the artisan site anymore - and it's not listed on the trythatsoap.com site. It just reminds me of Shiner Bock in such a good way - I am certain they must have added it to the mix. The aftershave - though not really a match for the scent (there are no nutty notes in the AS)- has a fantastic pear scent - though it is called Hoptoberfest - it is definitely good for summer as well. I always get great shaves from the Karve - and since I used a Nacet- double bonus.

Today started taking my eldest son to the barber - we went a little shorter than normal - but the way the summer is turning out - it is probably for the best. We then went to downtown to walk along the "river" - our town actually has made an effort to build up the walk along the park and actually it's a creek - to model after San Antonio's River Walk. My town is a little different in that all the shops have to conform to a certain code to give at least the façade of shops and restaurants - that old time feel. When I first moved here - I was still in the military at the time- I was annoyed that we weren't "modernized." Now I can truly appreciate it - the downtown has that old time feel - while the outskirts of the down are more modern.

Aidan loves the water (he's autistic - and it just the sound of flowing water calms him) - and since it is summer - the fountains were in full blast. I am a germaphobe, even before the pandemic, but just watching him play in the water was so fun! A little history on my town - we have a relationship with another village in Germany - and since they started building up the town - we have a German-style Brewhaus along the Riverwalk. There is also a lot of Irish / Scottish influence - so I grabbed some shots of our downtown distillery. And for @NurseDave - since he loves wine- I captured one of the restaurants that specialized in wine - if I recall (it's been a long time since I went inside) - I believe it is one of those placed where you can get flights of wine to try.

Also along the way - there is a Art Education Center - so our bridges - though built of brick are actually painted by artists to give them that ancient feel.

We finished in the park - and had to do Aidan's favorite thing......the see saw. When I got home - mowed the lawn - which I believe by our town ordinance - requires you to have a beer afterwards.

Anyway - I hope the Cadre has just a great a day as I have had!

Yer stickin’ yer finger in everything!

Good morning!

Decided to give my shaving liver a break and depart from the boozy scents…

1626006405614.jpeg

Razor: Feather Artist Club SS (Folding)
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: RazoRock Big Bruce
Lather: Southern Witchcrafts Fougere Nemeta
Aftershave: PAA Doppelgänger Tricolor
Additional Care:
Azzaro Pour Homme EdT

This is a fantastic lathering scent. From what I understand, this type of scent is a departure from Southern Witchcraft’s normal fare as it is very fresh. I cannot attest as I only have one other southern witch craft soap which is Gravefruit - which to me had dark, earthy notes (which aren’t my bag baby) - but even if Gravefruit is on the more mass appealing dark side - then their other soaps must really go earthy.

That is not the case with this soap - it is fresh squared. From what I understand, the perfumer from Chantillon Lux did this scent. Notes are: Petitgrain, strawberry, cassis, lavender, geranium, galbanum, fig leaf, vetiver and oakmoss. Since the backstory of the soap’s name is Celtic in nature - it was doubly appealing (don’t you know that Gertz is an Irish name no matter how much naysaying I get from my friends and family).

I doubled down on the ☘️ with the aftershave - which is an homage to Irisch Moos which also adds the freshness. I’m bummed I didn’t take advantage of getting the original when I had the chance because right now from my searches I can only find the AS for $50 or more. I’m not opposed to spending that much - but to pay that for an AS it needs to really knock my socks off as a scent, be something that I would use everyday, or have breasts pressed up against the bottle.

Azzaro Pour Homme is a classic barbershop cologne. I was hesitant to get it as I heard it described as having an anise note - which brings back memories as a child when my family went to the movies and my brother would get the Jujifruits box first and leave me with only the licorice ones - scarred me for life. It;s funny how your tastes change as you get older - and I actually appreciate it. I do like this cologne - it does have that shaving cream fougére aroma (and not too heavy on the licorice Jujifruit note).

I hope everyone has a fabulous Sunday and I’m looking forward to the Zoom call!

Today's shave is an homage to Penhaligon's Sartorial .

Good morning everyone! I recently received both the soap and the AS in the mail and took the plunge this AM.

Razor: Blackland Vector
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: RazoRock The Hulk
Lather: Pinnacle Grooming God Save the Queen
Aftershave: Strike Gold Shave Kennedy
Additional Care:
Calvin Klein Eternity for Men EdP

I have never experience any OG Penhaligon scent - so I cannot speak to accuracy, really enjoyed today's shave- it is a nice fougere - with all the notes - reminds me definitively of an older style cologne - without being dated. Top notes are Metallic notes, Aldehydes, Cardamon, Black Pepper, Ginger, Violet Leaf, Water Notes and Neroli; middle notes are Lavender, Beeswax, Leather, Lime (Linden Blossom) and Cyclamen; base notes are Oakmoss, Honey, Woody Notes, Tonka Bean, Amber, Patchouli, Myrrh, White Musk, Vanilla, Cedar and Gurjan balsam.

The soap, from Pinnacle Grooming, a UK artisan, is a nice slick base that is easy to lather. I would say it is in the line of B&M Excelsior or Zingari Man Sego bases. Rich in skin food ingredients. The AS is from Strike Gold shave who I really appreciate his homages to harder to get or expensive colognes (my favorite is Ike which is an homage to Eight & Bob - ironically I would have thought he would have named his Kennedy scent after that- but I've never asked him why).

As a child of the 70s & 80s - I did Calvin Klein Eternity - this is the EdP version which is similar to the EdT and not too heavy for the heat if applied subtly.

Had a blast seeing some of the guys during the Zoom Call last night - always fun to get together.

Have a great day!

First shave with the Tedalus!

1626363098281.png

Razor: Tedalus Essence
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: Teton Shaves BDLM Blanco
Lather: Murphy & McNeil BDLM
Aftershave: Murphy & McNeil BDLM

Good day everyone! First let me caveat my review of the Tedalus Essence Razor with this - I am novice when it comes to straight / shavette razor shaving. I started about 16 months ago with that style (I have a Gold Dollar 207, a Feather SS Folding with Walnut Handle, I used to have a Kamisori Style Feather SS, and a JR Torry Co Straight which I have never shaved with as it has to be restored). - and I have just under 50 shaves using this style of razor. I purchased the Tedalus - because after becoming really comfortable with the Feather SS Folding, I was intrigued by the ability to use my favorite DE blades - as well as artist club, and injector SE blades. I have always loved watching videos and shave of the day photos with straights - and I wanted something unique, but was hesitant because I really screwed up the edge of the Gold Dollar with my stropping, and I don't think that I want to have the investment of the time and cost of honing my own razors. I really appreciate and admire those that do - I have met a bunch of folks that do - but I know me.....and I can't see me doing it long term (don't get me wrong - I can see myself buying a bunch of stones and all the gadgets that come along with that - doing it once or twice and then realizing - it is a lot of work!

1626368291401.png1626368328810.png

I know I picture as the one on the left - but if I'm honest - probably more true to the one on the right when it comes to that type of effort :)

First the software and brush. They were part of a Murphy & McNeil collaboration with Xicano Design (artwork) and Teton Shaves (brush). I procured these as a combo set of named "Barbershop De Los Muertos" and "Barbershop De Los Muertos 2 which contained the soap, aftershave, and EdT for both. BDLM 1 (the one I shaved with) is a homage to Amouage Jubilation XXV Man. Notes are Top: Cistus labdanum, Coriander, Orange, Davana, Frankincense, Blackberry, Middle: Honey, Bay, Cinnamon, Orchid, Rose, Clove, Celery seed, Gaiac wood, Base: Patchouli, Opoponax, Myrrh, Atlas cedarwood, Musk, Moss, Ambergris, Oud wood, Immortelle. It is in the Kodiak (bear tallow) base. The brush uses a badge-synth knot.

Now onto the Razor. Tedalus is out of Switzerland. The shavette razor was developed with a Kickstarter effort. The razor is 7.5 inches from point to tail. It can use three types of blades - artist club (which when used extend the entire edge of the razor), injector SE, and DE blades (1/2 blades). The blade separates at the shoulder to expose two magnets which keeps the razor together. This is how you load the razor. The separated piece slides along a track to tightly keep the blade on. Unless you are looking really hard - it is difficult to detect where the razor comes apart. It has a large monkey tail. The scales are aluminum. Looking straight on - the spine is significantly thinner when compared to the Feather SS. You cannot load a blade by pinching like the Feather - you must pull apart. It comes with a 10 year warranty.

My first shave was enjoyable and I found it very easy to maneuver. I thought the monkey tail would play a role - but it did not get in the way. The feel of the razor in my hand was light - though it is fairly larger than the Feather SS - to me it did not feel heavier. I did knick myself under my nose - but this was my technique - when things go smoothly with a straight/shavette - I tend to get cocky and go too quickly - which bites me every time - as was the case with this time.

Overall - I am very pleased to have this in my collection - I do know that I need much work with my technique and this razor will require me to adjust somewhat as compared to the Feather SS or Gold Dollar. When shaving my neck - the razor is really long fully extended - so I have to make adjustments to how I hold the razor for the across the grain pass.

If I am truly honest - I can't say this is the end all be all, I am weighing my review with the fact that it is new to me and fairly expensive - so I don't want to give it the "It's the best razor I have ever used" based on it being my new toy and to justify the cost/ I want to give it a spin several times, and with each type of blade. I am excited to try it with some of my DE blades that I love - Like the Nacet, Bolzano, or 7 O'Clock. What I can say is that I am glad I made the decision to add it to my den. I thought long and hard - and also sought the advice of some folks on the Cadre - because acquiring it was not without sacrifice - I did have to part with some of the other razors in my den. It is funny how hard it was - because going from "well I hardly use those razors anymore, or the replacement I THINK would be much better" to actually doing it, because the ones I let go - I think fondly of. But without doing so- the razor itself take a hefty hit on the budget. No one should expect magic pixie dust to come with this - it is a fine shave, beautiful to look at, easy to handle, and since I really dig newly engineered razors - it hits my buttons - but I don't want to lead anyone to think that this razor will solve all that ails you in shaving. It does require adjustments in technique.

I'll let everyone know how this goes with the other blade types - I wish it could have used a GEM blade lol!

Have a fantastic day!

Great write up Brian! Out of my price range…but quite a looker nonetheless!
thank you my friend - I definitely had to make some sacrifices - had to part with my Timeless, Tatara, Feather SS Kamisori and Rockwell razors. The cost does cause one to really pause and I couldn't justify buying it straight up - maybe one day I'll win the lottery and I'll get one for everyone in the Cadre - plus my old razors back - but while living in reality- some had to go!

I can't see me doing it long term (don't get me wrong - I can see myself buying a bunch of stones and all the gadgets that come along with that - doing it once or twice and then realizing - it is a lot of work!

All kidding aside, sounds really cool and I'm interested to see how the shaves progress. You know the doors always open for you to come over to the dark side 100% and I have a stupid number of razors hanging out over here waiting for you...

1627230901772.png

I skipped a few days lol - work called. Today was a great shave!

1627230942713.png

Razor: Tedalus Essence
Blade: Feather Pro Guard Artist Club
Brush: Backyard Sawdust Green Wave
Lather: Black Ship Grooming Tortuca
Aftershave: Black Ship Grooming Tortuga
Additional Care:
Zingari Man Hydration Potion
Ralph Lauren Polo Double Black EdT

Shave was perfect for summer! The predominant notes from the soap and aftershave are sweet tea and mango - Yummmm! It's so great how this hobby has opened up a world of different scents - things that I most likely wouldn't have tried. This is no different - the scent made this shave oh so refreshing - I think the only trouble was trying to find a matching EdT - well - come to find out - the predominant notes for Double Black are coffee and mango - which you wouldn't think were a clean scent - but Ralph Lauren found a way to do it - so he should stick to scents and not Olympic Uniforms lol!

This is my only badger knot - and was smooth as silk. I am honing my skills on the Tedalus and like it more and more each time.

I had a full night of watching the Olympics - it was cool watching people give their max efforts and some folks that weren't expected medaled - and a few golds to boot! Go USA! The Aussie teams are also impressing me and I always root for Canadian teams as well.

My oldest son and I had a blast this morning at his favorite spot - Urban Air.

Have a most fantastic day!
