Now...that sounds like a plan! You working on anything in particular these days?
I replaced the ceiling in my daughter's room. I had a chimney behind the wall that went from the cellar to the attic, I took that down and made it into a new closet. The list I have from the wife now is a hall tree, 2 barrister bookcases, and a desk. Then we also did quite a few small things here and there.

She is definitely keeping you busy!

Hello everyone, it has been a while. Just wanted to stop in and give a quick update of things going on around here. Everyone is still doing great with our family. Staying healthy. The kids are still in home school for this year, and while they are learning a lot and doing well academically, they really miss their friends. My daughter is handling it like a champ, but my son needs more interactions and has frequent melt downs. They have also cancelled Cub Scouts until after Easter. With the warmer weather coming, maybe he will be able to meet with kids in an outdoor environment soon.

I am also still working from home with no change in sight. They are remodeling our main office and scheduled to get to my department's section in April. I was told that we need to clean out our desks because we will not be back in the office before then. I never thought that I would say this, but I am ready to go back to the office. Working from home is fine, but there is a serious lack of interaction on my team. I am also finding motivation to be lacking.

On the plus side, we are nearing our vacation that has been set up since preCOVID. We are going to Montana to visit Glacier NP and Yellowstone NP. We will see a few family members while there. We know that airline travel will be risky, but we are taking all the precautions we can and we can't ignore this opportunity.

I hope you all have been doing well.

Oh, and on the shaving side of things, I have been sticking with my GEM. I did try to use my straights a few times one handed, but still getting used to them that way. I think they need to be honed again. Which, I have stones to 8000, so I could try, but want to perfect my technique on other sharp objects first. I am still basically pretending to be a minimalist with my soaps. Only using a handful of them. I think in the past 3 months, I haven't used anything besides Tabac, LNHC Bay Rum, and Wholly Kaw (I forget the name Fougere). The wife is not a fan of aftershaves, because she has a sensitive nose. So basically been just using Lucky Tiger cream for an aftershave. If I ever have to go somewhere, I will put something else on.

Don! Great to see you! Sounds like things are as well as can be considering the circumstances. Yeah, the separation from friends is really not doing the kids any favors. I fear that things that we are experiencing now might forever leave a mark on the younger generations. As parents, you do what you can. But I think people really underestimate the impact that socialization (or lack of) has on people in general.

Totally jealous! Hope you have a really good time with your family and seeing those amazing sights!

Same here. My office is empty as my roommates are also working from home a good bit, so I get little interaction with others even at work.

Totally agree. We are social animals.

Well, taking a long deserved break from work. Took 8 days off and we are travelling in MT. Going to check out Glacier NP and then Yellowstone NP. Looking to do some cross country skiing, alpine skiing, going on a snow coach tour of Yellowstone, and if they have a cancellation, will be going dog sledding.

For shaving, just brought a stick of arko, a synthetic brush, and some salve to offset the much drier climate.

Enjoy Don! I’m envious!

I was able to go to Glacier/Yellowstone once, a loooooong time ago as a kid. Such beautiful places!

Worst shave ever. Not sure if my GEM push button got tweaked during the flight or what, but there are definitely spots that it just wouldn't cut no matter how many times I went over them. I know the blade should still be sharp, it only has 3 out 4 shaves on it. Also, I didn't notice during the first pass, but the blade had shifted and one of the corners was above the guard and now I have quite a few scratches going down my face. Will let it heal for a couple of days then try again. Hopefully, the razor isn't damaged.

Well, something is definitely off. Not as smooth as normal and a little more irritation. Will have too wait until I am back home to figure out if it is just the blade or the razor is off. If it is, might have to replace that one with another GEM or possibly something else. Like maybe a kamisori.

Besides the shaving, vacation has been going great. We spent the last couple of days snowshoeing and cross country skiing in Glacier NP. We are supposed to go alpine skiing tomorrow, but we are unsure right now because the wind chill isn't going to be above zero all day. Wasn't so bad the last couple of days because the trees would block the wind some and it only felt like the single digits. But on the chair lifts, there isn't really anything to block it.

Wait...you didn't take a back up razor? Redundancy Plans Don...Redundancy Plans!

Your vacation sounds awesome (and exhausting)! But man I bet it is beautiful scenery! Enjoy the vacation while you can. The end all too soon.

Well, made it back home a while back. Still haven't tested to see if it was the blade or razor. Decided to just use my German 37 for a while. The return home was delayed for a day due to fight cancellation from having to fly through Dallas during those storms. Also, we flirted with danger and it bit us. The wife and both kids tested positive. I have somehow avoided it thus far. We knew it was a risk of the trip, but it was such an awesome trip that was planned for so long that we couldn't pass it up.

Good to see you pop in Don! Glad you’re still up and running amidst the craziness.

Well, the weather is warming up around here, so might as well switch to a more springlike scent. The Tabac has been out away for a while and it came my Declaration Grooming Colonia Basalmica set. It is already a donut, so I will probably end up 3017ing it. The way I use soap though, that could still take 2-3 months.

I tried the blade from vacation in my shovelhead and it was awful. So hopefully, that was it. But, while it was out, I the a new blade in the shovelhead and wow, I forgot how close that thing gets. I was getting a BBS with the GEM push button, but it didn't last anywhere close to as long as this did. Another thing I forgot though was that if you have any skin blemish when using shovelhead, it will cause a little seepage. My skin has to get used to it again.
