Sounds super busy Don. That sucks about the injury for sure.

Nice to have you stop by even if it’s just time to time.

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. Every time I smell Old Spice, I think of my grandfather, Stetson, my dad. With the amount I change scents, my kids will not be able to smell one and think of me. I'm thinking that I need to narrow it down and stick with one scent, regardless of how much that is going against what I have been doing for the past few years. Now, in order for this to work, it will have to be a widely available scent. No artisan one offs. Maybe something based on TdH or GIT. A lot of artisans make a version of these, so I would have lots of options.

Nice thoughts Don. I change my scents all the time. And while I don't have kids (or at least any that I know about 🤪 ) the people that know me whether at work or friends, seem to identify me with the Aventus scents. I don't think you can go wrong with the GIT scents.

Interesting thought. And I understand our correlation of a certain scent to a certain person, I have to think that in the absence of that we create other correlations. i.e. maybe my kids with think about my hobby and daily different scents when they smell any of various scents that they could imagine me using.

I've found a fair number of soaps and splashes that fit the bill: LNHC's GIT or IGT I think it's called now is a great soap that checks all of the boxes. WSP's Gaelic Tweed splash is a great way to finish any shave., IMO. I have no opinion of LNHC's AS, as I recall they are more balm than splash.
The wonderful thing about staying within one scent is that I could take the soap from one and the aftershave from another.

I see what you are saying. I do usually tend to stay within 3 camps, citrus, fougere, or oud.

Well, it is official. I am a one razor shaver. I am now reaching for my Everready Shovelhead for every shave. I still have love for straights, just can't use them with my left hand. Maybe I should learn to single wing it.

I never did decide to whittle my collection of soaps down to one or two. There are just way too many that smell great and perform well. I'm not buying any for a while though. Regardless of how enticing you guys make them seem. I will just stand over here in the corner with my fingers in my ears saying la, la, la.

One thing I will never be able to reduce the amount of are my brushes. I have more than I need, but any that are redundant have a special place in my heart and will never leave.

On a more personal note, luckily no one in my family got sick from COVID-19. My workplace sent everyone to work from home in March and we haven't gone back yet. Although there is talk of some people returning on Monday. No one is sure who yet though. My family is really going that I am not one of the people selected since my wife and son basically live on inhalers. Although my daughter might be happy to see me go since I have turned her room into my office. My kids school called it quits early. They had their last week of class last week. They are excited to be done and Tammy is glad she is no longer teaching them. I have been staying busy working on my house to be able to get it to where we want it.

But what about the Aftershave? Did you figure out your signature scent? Or do you still love variety too much?

I won't be able to make it a signature scent or anything like that, but I have been using the same soap since the start of quarantine. I have been using Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Colonia Balsamica. The bottom is starting to show, but there is still plenty on the sides though.

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing.

Still doing well over here. They had us go back into the office for about a month, then they sent us back to work from home. Our school has decided not to even try to have the kids social distance or require masks, so we opted to home school our kids this year. We are lucky that my wife is a start at home mom anyways, so it wasn't a huge issue.

Don! Thanks for popping in...we have missed the Man of La Mancha!

Well, for the first time since March, I used a different soap. I had an empty tub, so I pressed two sample pucks of CBL Russian Tea with one of his Damascus. The Damascus was as close to unscented as my nose could pick up, so it was basically just the Russian Tea scent. These sample pucks were from before he had perfected his recipe and opened up shop, but they still perform beautifully. I just finished off the shave with alum and a little Lucky Tiger Vanishing Cream. It was glorious.

Been doing quite a bit of work on the house this summer. But it just seems like for every one thing I knock off the honey do list, 2 more get added. Oh well, just gives me an excuse to do more woodworking and buy more tools.
