Pens, inks and related.....

It really depends on how you write. I tend to write small so when i tried a medium starting out i ended up with a bloby mess. I am currently using a Lammy EF and loving it. just be sure to start with rounded tip. I'm forgetting what it's called exactly but a squared tip is much harder to learn with.

I was going to stop at the local Staples and grab the Metropolitan I've been talking about on my lunchbreak today....they only have on fountain pen in stock at the store and it's a $50 Cross lol. So I used my Dad's Amazon Prime account and ordered it that way. It should be here tomorrow.

Is the square tip you're thinking of also called an Italic tip?

That's an oblique nib, it would be pretty scratchy.

So what do you think so far?
I'm amazed at how easily I'm taking to writing with it. I assumed there would be a bigger learning curve, like when I started with a DE lol. The medium nib isn't bad either, but I may obtain a fine nib at some point. My only real complaint is that I tend to prefer blue ink and this came with a black cartridge. It did come with a converter though, so I see a bottle of ink in my near future lol. Down another rabbit hole I go....

I'll also say that this pen definitely has the feel of something more permanent. it's weight and the feel of the barrel definitely say that this is NOT a disposable pen. I like that.

The black one is just like yous mr @SteveChuckFrank the orange one is the one I just got, its a little thicker and heavier. When the converter you have gets tired you can pick up a pack of 3 pilot con 40's for less than $10 (or check with me to see if i still have one extra)

I saw the pattern MR's @CBLindsay but couldn't decide on which one I liked better so I went with plain black lol. I just threw the cartridge in that came with my pen, so I'll fill the converter once I get some different ink. How long will a converter typically last?

Mine lasted about a dozen refills before deforming and making me mad. I don’t know if I did something wrong or if that’s the norm but the twist to fill con 40 looks like it will last a long time and allow a variety of inks to be used.

You guys are terrible...............................I've been perusing the bay now looking at Metropolitans..............
Be patient, the are an “entry level” pen and should be priced very attractively. A few other “entry level” versions from other brands have been mentioned and I understand they are great too. I like the metropolitan (that orange one in particular) because it is heavy and thick so my hands don’t hurt when I use it. The disposable pilot fountain pen is cool but I prefer the heavier versions.

I read a few articles on “beginner” pens and they all mentioned the Pilot Metropolitan, Pilot Varsity, Lamy Safari, and a few mentioned the Platinum Preppy. The Metropolitan was usually given the best all around rating but as with anything else YMMV lol. From what I’ve read it seems the Metropolitan is great for easing into things and gives you the best bang for your buck.
