Pens, inks and related.....

I'm using the converter it came with. I'll have to try again later tonight. It seemed like the converter was snug but after writing 2 sentences it started to just purge ink. If you held the pen vertically with the nib pointing down (same position as if you were writing) Ink would just slowly drip out of the nib without touching the paper.

That's really unusual! I've never heard of such a thing tbh. Did you fill the converter yourself?

I'd guess it won't be doing it anymore when you try later.

But you'll probably have to clean some ink up. Make sure you clean the inside of the cap up too, or every time you post the pen, it'll get ink on the barrel and then your hands. (Ask me how I know that)

Yup. Filled the converter myself. It's a piston converter which is basically a smaller version of my TWSBI ECO piston filler. So I'm familiar with how they work.

And yes, I already cleaned up a lot of ink last night lol. I also cleaned the inside of the cap lol

So ... anybody bought ink from Hobby Lobby? Didn’t know if there was something to look for or just grab whatever.

Earlier this morning I finally had the chance to play with the Luoshi Dragon pen I got in the mail.

It’s a twist-piston converter type. Took me a few tries and a google search to finally get it loaded up. Appears to hold a little over 1 oz of ink at a time.

In the future, I might be more inclined to use a cartridge type. The mess and waste of sticking the entire from end of the pen in and wiping the nib clean struck me as a bit silly. Otherwise it was easy.

The tip on this pen must be considered fine or maybe the fine side of medium? I’m not sure. The line it gave was pretty thin, maybe a tad thinner than your normal throw away ball point pen.

I loaded it with half a sample of Jinhao - Red...which turned out more red-pink than straight up red.

Looking forward to playing around with it some more.

Question: Is it bad for the pen if you combine inks? The way this pen draws ink, there’s still about 1oz left in the sample container, which isn’t at a high enough level for the pen to suck up in a refill. Once I’ve tried the various samples, I’d have to combine leftover inks to get a refill. Just thinking ahead and also not wanting to waste the rest of the samples.

Got my pen in today. First impression is that this was a killer deal. I will ink it up tomorrow and get some pics.

@GearNoir in terms of mixing inks, the official suggestion would be mix inks in a container and let them sit to ensure there is no clotting or funkiness.

I think you mean it holds 1ml as opposed to 1oz ;)

Ok took the Nemosine Fission apart to really get a good look at it and I am pretty impressed with it. Easy to disassemble and reassemble. I will note that the barrel that the nib slots into is keyed for where the nib fits so pay attention when putting it back together.

And a writing test of my 3 current pens.

The 0.6 stub is so smooth when writing and the weight of the pen is very nice as well. It does lay down a lot of ink on this paper(legal pad).

What is a hot line order?

Also, super cool. I might just pick up a Nimosine based on what you said.

So when a crew is working on an energized power line (Hot Line) they tag the closest upstream protective device, generally a re-closer which is like a breaker but has programming to allow it to try to close itself back in a few times before staying open. They also set the re-closer to what we call 1 shot which just means if it opens it will not auto close back in.

Essentially it is similar to a Lock-out Tag-out but on energized power lines.

@uacowboy how did you get the feed/nib out of the grip? I think that might be where the problem lies with my Nemosine:

It looks like the feed is misaligned. Not sure if it’s something that I can adjust or if I should contact Nemosine.

the feed does look misaligned. it should twist. as for taking them out, just get a grip on both pieces(i used thumb on top and middle of my pointer finger on bottom) and pull straight out.

I was able to twist it while still in place, but it very easily moved back over when slightly bumped. Is the feed seated somehow inside the grip?
