Pens, inks and related.....

@NurseDave (or anyone) have you tried the pens from the link Gunmetal Fission Fountain Pen

Would that be a good pen for a beginner? I think I’ll start with the extra fine nib(?) Can the various bits and parts be changed as needed?

Would that be a good setup for standard lower quality paper also? Then I just need ink? Thanks.
I don't know about that pen but this is what i started with. It does just fine on office printer paper. It also comes with a cartridge of ink so you can get used to the pen before diving into the world of inks.

I’m a newbie to the hobby myself. Though I did have a Safari in college and off and one since then. Actually just ordered a converter for it as well.

My pens from that site were just shipped so hopefully will get them soon.

I should be fine for a beginner, but I'd go with a fine since extra fines can be scratchy and more difficult to maintain. Looking at the writing samples there's not much between the two sizes anyway.

Beginners may also want to consider the Platinum Preppy pen as well. Platinum is a decent Japanese brand, and the preppy is an all plastic pen with a decent nib. It doesn't set the world on fire, but at <$10, it's a good way to cut your teeth. I used to keep one or two on hand just to use with some very poorly behaved inks (**cough**Bay State Blue**cough**) that I wouldn't dare put into a decent pen.

I didn't recognize that formula, but my suspicions were confirmed. Something about fluid dynamics and capillary motion. Super cool stuff.

I didn’t think about the converter being empty. I guess I need to swing by Hobby Lobby for some ink to play with.
