Not quite Music City USA

I enjoyed yesterday's lineup so much I stuck with it again, except that I used my Chubby 2, which I gave a couple of days to dry after the last use.

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (1)
Soap: Stirling Satsuma
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Stirling Satsuma

Okay, actually I swapped out the Gillette Platinum for an Astra SP, and it was beneath my capacity to discern a difference, which is fine, as both provided smooth shaves. The Diamondback is seriously making me question keeping most of my other razors. Some I'd sell, some I'd PIF. We'll see. I'm giving it the month before I take a decision like that. I have 14 razors, which is a puny collection by some standards, and some of those have sentimental attachments, but not all. Again, we'll see. But it was another fantastic shave, a four pass irritation-free BBS. I showered and shaved upon my return from braving the local Walmart to get a mother's day card and some roses. The place was packed with people, almost all of whom were wearing masks too. This was sort of comforting, after pulling into the crowded parking lot with a bit of trepidation. I was in and out quickly, stopping by the personal care section to see what was up. I grabbed a bottle of Adidas AS and a bottle of Brut, both of which are new to me. The Adidas is nice and citrusy, and Brut reminds me of Pinaud Clubman. I liked them both, so I grabbed them. My aftershave collection is now pretty much maxed out due to space considerations, as is my soap collection. I've got enough to last for several years now I think. Although, when I come right down to it, I'll probably end up replacing some of my favorites as they run out. I don't want to be without the option of Fine American Blend, Razorock xXx, and I'll definitely spring for the barbershop bottle of Proraso Green when my 100ml bottle runs out. I've already bought the ceramic jug of PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum to refill my bottle as I need it. It may be my overall #1 Aftershave. Now, I'm off to do some studying for the A+ cert test, so I can spend the evening listening to the Grand Ole Opry and some bluegrass on WSM. Korean Baseball is on at midnight, so I'm blessed with a carefree evening ahead.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

I may have to get that ceramic bottle at some point. AA Bay Rum is my go to Bay Rum.

Good luck on the A+. I don’t remember, are you doing Net+ and Sec+ also?

Yep, I'm going for all three. In the Fall I'm going to do a Microsoft Cloud Computing cert. But I'll cross that bridge after I get these three all done.

So I spent an evening perusing Twitter, which is a bad idea mental health wise. I'm staying away for a while from now on. I got to sleep around 4 and woke up at 7 and my mother was up. I went out and got us some breakfast for mother's day. Then I retired to the den for a nice Sunday shave.

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Cella Pre-shave gel
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback 2020
Blade: Astra SP (2)
Soap: PAA Coconut Bay CK-6
Brush: Semogue Boar (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Florida Water (first use)

This was my first use of my new Semogue 830 boar. My very first brush, 10 years ago, was a big Semogue 620, which I liked, and used daily until the knot came out in three big chunks, about 5 years ago. That's when I got my Parker Long Loft Badger, which was my only brush until about 2 months ago, when I got a WCS Silvertip, and last week's purchase of the Chubby 2. I had the 830 for about a month, but today was my first go round. It certainly needs breaking in, but man, in combination with the PAA CK-6, I got a ton of great lather, and although the brush is stiff, it didn't really irritate my face, but it sure woke it up! I sprung for the glass bottle of Florida Water, and I really like the scent. I get cinnamon mainly, but as I mentioned in a foregoing post, I don't have the nose of an expert, and my vocabulary for describing a scent profile is extremely limited. I downloaded a Flight Combat Simulator to the XBOX overnight, so now I'm going to go get blown out of the sky by robotic sim pilots. Then, some studying and some leisure reading in the Dick Tracy collection. I'm almost up to 1934. Only 41 more years to go! Oh, one more thing - I watched my first NurseDave video this morning. Finally, someone who shaves on YouTube who thoroughly rinses their face at the end! I highly recommend the video if you enjoy watching shaving videos, which I do.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

...or are you more of a Red Baron type?

This was my first run with this game. I hadn't flown a combat simulator in over 20 years, but it came back pretty quickly. The heads up display is intuitive, and I successfully downed the bombers who attacked our base in a surprise attack. The overall campaign hasn't taken shape yet, but it's promising. Between this and my successful (so far) season in Madden Football, my quarantine diversions are serving me well. I'm also playing a game called Minecraft online with some former coworkers who are fresh faced young men ( we all got laid off) . I got one of them into wet shaving, and PIF'ed him a nice starter kit. - a Merkur 34c, a Parker brush, a Timeless bowl, and some Kiss My Face cream, and an assortment of blades to try. He's totally into it, and has been watching shaving videos on YouTube. He's 22, and watches everything on YouTube. In return for my PIF, he's been helping me in Minecraft, which is an interesting game. Cooperative play, which I like. I'm 52, which I guess is kind of old for playing console games, but I started with an Atari 2600 when I was a kid, and have enjoyed them across several platforms through the years. I got the XBOX as much for the UHD Blu Ray player as for the games, but I've been enjoying the games during the quarantine. I'm having to live off my savings since the layoff, but I'm high-risk for Covid, so staying at home and keeping myself and my 77 year old mother safe makes it a no-brainer. Shaving has become more of a mental health exercise than ever. I'm rambling now so I'll quit and check back in after my shave.

Minecraft
Great game and doesn’t take a mega computer to run either! I played the solo version for a while when it first came out, haven’t done multiplayer at all. It was lots of fun though...kinda like virtual Legos but way better!

A very late, 3am shave tonight. The Diamondback keeps excelling and I tried a new soap.

Prep: Hot shower, Ach Brito Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm 2020 Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (3)
Soap: Razorock Santa Maria del Fiore (first use)
Brush: Semogue 830 Boar
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Ogalalla Bay Rum

Not much to tell tonight. The Santa Maria del Fiore was great, although I like a little more oomph in my soap scent, but it's nice and clean and fresh smelling and was plenty slick. The Diamondback cruised through 36 hours growth, leaving behind a four pass irritation free BBS. The alum block was cooling and stung not a whit. The brush is still on it's second use, and still needs breaking in, but it's a nice little brush, with which I used Marcos method, since it's an Italian soap, so there was copious lather everywhere, which is sort of fun sometimes. The Ogalalla Bay Rum gave me a slow burn and a smoky dry down. I like it a lot. All in all, a fantastic shave and I'm feeling relaxed and ready for rest.

Thanks for reading and have a great shave!

I must admit I’ve never been able to get along with the “Marco Method”, or any other method for that matter that suggests 20-30 or more seconds of brush loading. I mean I shave fantisize about the oodles of pillowy, luxurious lather it would make, but realistically it just seems to not make sense when 5-10 seconds gets me lather for 3+ passes.

That's a great gif! I don't always do the Marco Method, and when I do it's with an Italian Croap. It's messy, and certainly overdoes the loading. It's, I guess, sort of the "traditional Italian Barber" thing that I enjoy. Most often, I load with a damp brush and dip the tips while face lathering or using my scuttle in winter.

A mid-morning shave.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP
Brush: Semogue 830 Boar
Soap: Cella Red Tub
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Proraso Red Aftershave Lotion

My puck of Ach Brito Glycerin Pre-shave soap gave up the ghost at last, so I cracked open a puck of Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, which I greatly prefer. It was nice having the familiar scent back after a couple of months. I started using Musgo Real soap around 6 years ago, when I started wet shaving with a DE after coming across Mantic59's videos. It's been a constant part of my routine except for these past few months when I bounced back and forth between the Ach Brito Glyce and Kiehl's Facial Fuel. MRLGS is hard to find now, so over the past couple of months I stockpiled 8 pucks. It's pricey, but it's one of those elements of my prep that I find really enjoyable. I hope Claus Porto keeps making it. I tried Stirling's Charcoal Face Soap, and I really like it - it could be a sufficient replacement for Musgo Real, even though it's a bit messy looking. Portugal aside, I was in the mood for some Cella, which I want to use up, lest it go rancid, which I've read that it eventually does. So I grabbed my Semogue 830 and went at it, loading like I hate it, as they say. Cella is nice - I love the almond/marzipan scent. It leaves my face feeling clean, but doesn't have the after-feel I get from stuff like CK-6, Stirling, and Mystic Water. I started a new jar of Proraso Red Pre-shave cream, which I also stockpiled, and stuck with that line for my Post-Shave as well. The Paradigm Diamondback is pretty much my favorite razor, passing the Envoy and the Gillette NEW LC. Both those razors are efficient and have more blade feel, but nothing I've ever tried before the Diamondback has given me this combination of smoothness, efficiency and ease of keeping the proper blade angle. It's perfectly heavy, keeps the blade rigid like a NEW SC, and has the perfect balance in my hand. It really feels like it's made for me.

The rest of my day will be taken up by making videos of songs written and performed by my former step-father-in-law. He retired from secondary education about 20 years ago, and became a singer-songwriter. He's 79 now, and has Parkinson's, so he knows his days of guitar playing and singing are numbered. He really wants to get his music out there where people are listening to music, and today that means YouTube. He has no idea how to make the files, so I'm going to basically use still photos of him in concert, along with his music files, to make video slide shows and upload them to YouTube. There are 26 songs, so it's not going to all get done today.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!!
