On Sundays I use what I feel is the best, or my current favorite lineup. The rest of the week I like trying different stuff, but on Sundays I like to use what I enjoy the most. The Chubby 2 enters this lineup this weekend.

If I have a favorite scent profile, it's something centered around citrus. I've loved citrus scents since I got a bottle of Royalle Lyme when I was a kid. So I like being able to assemble a shave with an assortment of citrus. I'm excited that my bottle of Ogalalla Bay Rum with Limes and Peppercorn, because I love Bay Rum almost as much as citrus, so I'm excited to see them mixed together. I think one of the best citrus scents, strong in it's simplicity and freshness, is Captain's Choice Lime, but this morning, I was really feeling the want for Fine Italian Citrus. I wanted a menthol kick, and CC doesn't have that. The Chubby 2 actually does work using only paintbrush strokes. It's an unfamiliar way to load, and I think for a hard loading soap like MWF, it would take forever, but with MdC, it loads in a reasonable amount of time using just paintbrush strokes, and then it builds on the face the same way. It's unfamiliar, except that my face lathering always finished prepping for a pass with these strokes, I'm just used to a little scrubbing, which I'll continue to do with my boar and cheap Parker badger, but I want this brush to last for a long time, so I'm following Simpson's instructions about its use. The Gillette Platinum is super smooth now in the Diamondback, and I got yet another four pass BBS with no irritation. A rinse, and the alum block was nothing but cool, and I'm feeling fresh and clean and ready for the day!
I did a Google Meet call with some old friends last night, and we spent a great hour reconnecting. We had a tradition, over the past 20 years, every 2nd or third year, of assembling at a rented cabin, somewhere - the first few years it was in the TN mountains, one year in upper Wisconsin woods, once in Texas Hill Country, once in KY - and bringing our musical instruments and recording equipment, and taking 5 days to see how many songs we could write and record from scratch. So over the years, we've created several albums of songs, released only to ourselves, that I enjoy breaking out and listening to. Some of the songs are objectively bad, and some are actually very good, but all are dead to me. My friends are all quarantined, of course, but in different places - Chicago, Baltimore, Austin, and me, here, in Gallatin, TN. We shared our stories of battling ennui and coping. It was a great conversation, and it brightened my spirits. We spoke of our hope for a good time after this pandemic, when we can gather together again and make more music.
Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!
