Not quite Music City USA

The rest of my day will be taken up by making videos of songs written and performed by my former step-father-in-law. He retired from secondary education about 20 years ago, and became a singer-songwriter. He's 79 now, and has Parkinson's, so he knows his days of guitar playing and singing are numbered. He really wants to get his music out there where people are listening to music, and today that means YouTube. He has no idea how to make the files, so I'm going to basically use still photos of him in concert, along with his music files, to make video slide shows and upload them to YouTube. There are 26 songs, so it's not going to all get done today.
Please post a link when they're uploaded. I'd love to listen to them.

That is an awesome project! Glad you can capture and preserve a voice of the elder generation!

I had a tub of Cella early on, but could never warm up to that almond smell. Am not a fan of the almond, though the soap was pretty nice.
Yes, if you're not a fan of almond, it's not for you. I associate that smell with the old-time Jergens hand lotion my grandmother used when I was a kid back in the early 70s. So it's a nice association.

A shave after 16 hours to reset my whisker clock. Plus, I just really wanted to shave.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Cella Pre-shave gel
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (2)
Soap: Zingari Man The Wanderer Sego Base
Brush: Thater Synthetic
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Osage Rub

My first use of the Zingari Man The Wanderer, and my first try of the Sego Base. I'm very impressed with it. I loaded quickly and it loves water. Very slick. I also used the Cella Pre-shave gel, which is very slick as well. It gets mixed in with the lather while face lathering, but it keeps my beard wet while I load the brush. I slathered on the Osage Rub, and now my face is freezing and so are my hands and chest. Pretty much everything it touched is freezing! So it was a shave I could have waited on, but I just felt like going ahead and doing it a little early. So now I'm reset to night shaving, which is nice.

I tried out two new items today. Stirling Pharoah's Dreamcicle, and my new Simpson Berkeley 46B Best brush. It's a little brush, but it packs a lot of lather in it's dense knot. And I like the Stirling, but not quite as much as their uber-orange Satsuma.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Astra SP (3)
Soap: Stirling Pharoah's Dreamcicle
Brush: Simpson Berkeley 46 B Best Badger
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block
After-Shave: Stirling Satsuma

So there's a video linked in another thread that shows a very unusual method of making lather. I wasn't really enticed to think it was a revolutionary method, but I figured I'd give it a try once. Once was all I needed. It was a mess, and didn't work very well with the Stirling. In fact, I dumped it, and started over the way I normally do it, with a damp brush, loading well, and adding water bit by bit on my face. The Stirling works great, as usual. The Diamondback works great as usual. The Astra SP is a great blade in this razor. I just ordered 400 of them at $6.73 per 100. I have two brushes coming in today, The PAA Star Craft and their Atomic Rocket. I love the retro look of these brushes, and they are well-reviewed. That should finish off my brush collection, as I'm running out of space. As it is, I keep the majority of my soaps in a big case under my bed. Of course, time will tell what I do. There's more room somewhere around here! Today is a day for study, so I'd better get at it. It was a great four pass BBS shave, and I'm ready to go!

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

What a wonderful, relaxing, satisfying shave this morning!

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Cella Pre-shave gel
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback
Blade: Gillette Platinum (1)
Soap: Stirling Queen of Hearts (first use)
Brush: PAA StarCraft (first use)
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Speick Splash

I have two new brushes, both from PAA. This morning I tried the StarCraft. It's a great brush for me! Reasonably dense, very soft, not floppy. The handle is longer than I'm used to, but it didn't cause any problems. It holds a lot of lather, but isn't greedy in that respect. For $14.95, it's one heck of a good deal. I'll be trying out the Atomic Rocket, with it's bulb knot, tomorrow. Both brushes are really cool looking too! Also on deck this morning for a first try out was Stirling Queen of Hearts. It's pretty strongly scented, and a bit perfumy, but I enjoyed it. The performance was typical Stirling goodness. I loaded a Gillette Platinum in the Diamondback and went to work. I really feel like I've found my favorite razor with this one. Smooth, not aggressive, but efficient. The blade is present, but just so. It's not at all threatening, where my other contender, the Envoy, announces it's presence. No autopilot shaves with the Envoy, while the Diamondback is an easy, effortless shave. I'm not missing the razors I sold to fund my Chubby 2 purchase. I had four comfortable passes and got an irritation free BBS. So I really enjoyed all aspects of the shave! Barber Dave inspired me to break out the Speick aftershave this morning, and it did its job, leaving me smooth and soothed and smelling great!

Today I'm going to be studying and making videos for my stepfather-in-law. I may finish the videos, but the studying is a long road.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

On Sundays I use what I feel is the best, or my current favorite lineup. The rest of the week I like trying different stuff, but on Sundays I like to use what I enjoy the most. The Chubby 2 enters this lineup this weekend.

Prep: Hot shower, Musgo Real Lime Glyce Soap, Proraso Red Pre-shave cream
Razor: Paradigm Diamondback 2020
Blade: Gillette Platinum (3)
Soap: Martin de Candre Agrumes
Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super
Post-shave: Osma Tradition Alum Block, cold water rinse
After-Shave: Fine Italian Citrus

If I have a favorite scent profile, it's something centered around citrus. I've loved citrus scents since I got a bottle of Royalle Lyme when I was a kid. So I like being able to assemble a shave with an assortment of citrus. I'm excited that my bottle of Ogalalla Bay Rum with Limes and Peppercorn, because I love Bay Rum almost as much as citrus, so I'm excited to see them mixed together. I think one of the best citrus scents, strong in it's simplicity and freshness, is Captain's Choice Lime, but this morning, I was really feeling the want for Fine Italian Citrus. I wanted a menthol kick, and CC doesn't have that. The Chubby 2 actually does work using only paintbrush strokes. It's an unfamiliar way to load, and I think for a hard loading soap like MWF, it would take forever, but with MdC, it loads in a reasonable amount of time using just paintbrush strokes, and then it builds on the face the same way. It's unfamiliar, except that my face lathering always finished prepping for a pass with these strokes, I'm just used to a little scrubbing, which I'll continue to do with my boar and cheap Parker badger, but I want this brush to last for a long time, so I'm following Simpson's instructions about its use. The Gillette Platinum is super smooth now in the Diamondback, and I got yet another four pass BBS with no irritation. A rinse, and the alum block was nothing but cool, and I'm feeling fresh and clean and ready for the day!

I did a Google Meet call with some old friends last night, and we spent a great hour reconnecting. We had a tradition, over the past 20 years, every 2nd or third year, of assembling at a rented cabin, somewhere - the first few years it was in the TN mountains, one year in upper Wisconsin woods, once in Texas Hill Country, once in KY - and bringing our musical instruments and recording equipment, and taking 5 days to see how many songs we could write and record from scratch. So over the years, we've created several albums of songs, released only to ourselves, that I enjoy breaking out and listening to. Some of the songs are objectively bad, and some are actually very good, but all are dead to me. My friends are all quarantined, of course, but in different places - Chicago, Baltimore, Austin, and me, here, in Gallatin, TN. We shared our stories of battling ennui and coping. It was a great conversation, and it brightened my spirits. We spoke of our hope for a good time after this pandemic, when we can gather together again and make more music.

Thanks for reading, and have a great shave!

Last night sounds great! Going to attempt and new songs remotely combing tracks?

Actually we are passing around some rudimentary tracks and doing some collaboration using Dropbox as a central location. I'll be trying to work out piano parts this week. We'll see how it goes.

I’ve done that a few times in the past using Google Drive. Let us know when it’s finished!

Shave sounds Great! But the get together sounds even better. Sounds like a good time reminiscing with old friends!

That's an awesome tradition! And an awesome idea for Sunday shaves, I might have to steal that from you.
